Would it be possible to make some sort of Fractal Oscillator that instead of having simple waveforms like triangles, it has smaller triangles on the way up to hitting the peak and again on the way back down? I am just talking about stacking, but adding more texture and harmonics to the shape of the waveforms?

The Radius doesn't have a specific sound because it's digital? I don't understand. Digital filters have their own character in the same way that analog filters have character. Digital filters in general have a less distinctive character, but certainly the Radius doesn't sound like a 303, and if you can make it sound like one, I'd be very interested.

Hey, Tim. Not sure if you'll see this. I was curious if you were still enjoying your Andromeda. I've got a chance to get one for a good price, but I'm starting to get cold feet. Namely because of the board failure. I know most of that is speculation and that only a few units per batch were rotten apples, but it still is in the realm of possibility. I dunno. I think for peace of mind I'm shifting towards a MUSE...
@TimShoebridge
@TimShoebridge 6 күн бұрын
Hi, Yes I am still very much enjoying the Andromeda but I must admit I am wary of using it for long periods. From numerous discussions with other owners, the biggest issue with these synths seems to be individual voice chip failures and unfortunately these chips are highly bespoke and irreplaceable. There seems to be a correlation between chip failures and overheating, and that is my biggest concern. There are no fans in these synths, very little venting or airflow. My attitude in the video of "I'll play it until it breaks" was a naive one, of course I don't want it to break. So here I am just using it occasionally, and that is far from ideal. I have not tried a Muse but it looks and sounds like a fantastic synth. I have a Dreadbox Murmux v3 so don't feel the urge to buy a Muse but if I didn't have the Murmux I'd definitely by hankering after a Muse for sure.

@TimShoebridge Thanks for getting back to me, Tim. That's pretty much exactly what I needed to hear. You don't know this, but your channel has saved me a few thousand dollars in the past. Looks like you've come to the rescue again. I'm sure the Andromeda is a peerless instrument, and I can only speak for myself, but I can't justify rolling those dice on such an endeavor. Thanks again!

The content is interesting and helpful, but the way it was structured was awkward. It would be so much more helpful having the compared synths named in the description and since the beginning of the video. I was interested in hearing a comparison with the Deepmind, and finding it here was a pain.

This works great, and changes where and how I use my Nyphes, ty. I would like to ask how difficult it was to build something like this as I have a number of old Midi only synths I'd like to build a interface control panel for, ideally integrated with my DAW . Any tips on where to start?

Nice little beast. Novation did a better job on the "which control edits what" thing by using dual mode leds which turns blue or orange to show which part you are editing. Of course it is doable there since it is sort of controlling 2 Peak synths in one case, but anyway, you should always be sure what you are doing when you turn a knob... Maybe the Yamaha Genos kind Oled display solution or the Akai MPC Key (1 small oled/knob) would be the solution. But flying blind is not a great feeling while you are creating/editing patches.

Similar to another commenter on here, I use mine as an audio router - Letting different pieces of sampler-type hardware access multiple sources of input without having to switch around cable chains; as well as, like you demonstrated, using it to route audio in and out of various effect-based modules, including guitar pedals. Prior to owning it, I kind of had to dedicate an effect to a certain piece of hardware, particularly when trying to integrate non-eurorack gear. I bought a slew of 1/4" to 3.5mm cables to aid with this usage. It's essentially 256 channels of buffered audio in one box, which is kind of nuts when you think about it. If I do use it for CV routing, typically it becomes the world's largest mult, which is also something that gives you an amazing amount of flexibility. For me, it was a game-changing piece of gear. Thank you for providing such an in-depth exploration of this device, all of your observations are right on the money. It's basically a giant effects bus, and brings the bedroom studio closer to functioning like an actual recording studio.

Hello Tim, I come back to your videos often. Loopop with a more personal view is how I see it, of great value to me ! Not sure you're still monitoring these comments nowadays seeing that you found your (almost) perfect synth :) But I'd be curious to know what you think of Matriarch in the light of all the fantastic new choices like PolyBrute12, Osmose, UDO Gemini, Moog Muse, 3rd wave, that motorised faders thing etc etc.. Is it still worth getting as an instrument in addition to one's Eurorack ?
@TimShoebridge
@TimShoebridge 14 күн бұрын
Hi. Great to hear you are enjoying the channel. I honestly think the Matriarch is one of the greatest synths Moog ever produced! It's not a replacement for a polysynth, you have to play the Matriarch a certain way as it is only paraphonic. But honestly if you have eurorack then this synth is a perfect compliment. I sold my multi-coloured Matriarch ages ago and got an all black version instead, but to be honest I actually miss those colours now!

I like the way you set mod amount on the super 6. That way you don’t lose your original encoder position. I think they should have added one more knob in the global lfo section to achieve the same thing.

Effects. I don't agree with your comments on the FX. The dig fx on most sythns are not special, and they create clutter, and I often find them to be like napkins. When you buy a donut, the person behind the counter just throws down 5-10 napkins. That's the equivalent of dig fx on a synth. They often feel obligatory just for the sake of "justifying value." I appreciate that the Murmux offers something different in their Analog BBD. Other than distortion, I can't remember the last time I saw an analog effect on a synth. (Phasers on String Machines, the Flanger on the Korg Trident, and the Analog Chorus on the Prophet VS are all fantastic sounding fx, and it would be nice to see analog fx more often on synths rather than repeating what everyone has on their DAW). And, I think maybe you missed the really beautiful comb filter sound you can get out of the BBD on the Murmux. I also don't agree on your comments re: the price of synths. There are PLENTY of low cost synthesizers on the market that are great. Lots and Lots. Lots of Eurorack. Lots of Dig synths, such as the Hydrasynth, the OB Teo 5, and the PWM Mantis just to name 3. Also, there's lots of eurorack stuff out there. Analog keyboards just cost a lot more to product - the chips and the labor, so once you start having 8 voices, the cost really goes up. Also, Dreadbox offers lots of inexpensive and amazing sounding instruments. I agree with everything else you said, however. The Murmux is One of the Best Analog Synths of the Last 10 Years. I'd absolutely say it's good as the UDO super 6, or the Prophet 5, or the OBX-8. These are all synths I've played. The Murmux is actually just as good as these, but sits in a league of its own in that in that it offers a different kind of Sonic Lushness. It sounds just so Beautiful and Vintagy, and quite diff't to these other synths.

There is one interesting thing u didn’t mentioned in this video: if I change any parameter on master synth - all parameters changes on both, it’s understood. But if I’ll change some parameter on slave synth - it changes only on it. So it’s pretty big opportunity for creative things, such as change filter, speed of delay etc. etc… and if I’ll change any parameter on master keyboard - it’s syncs again. Amazing feature, especially if using sequencer.
