He wasn’t that bad his brother literally spent all his money on the crusades and he got captured by the duke of Austria was passed to the holy Roman emperor and was imprisoned on the way from the crusades twice and hid ransom was expensive and the English baron refused to support him because he was fighting for land in France and they were English lords so they didn’t care and he had no money since the royal coffers were already empty after paying the crusades Richards ransoms which left him in a lot of debt he wasn’t a bad king he just had a bad start

There is NO way this guy is a professor or even decently educated about the effect of the Versailles Treaty! 1) The reason the rise of Nazism was LATER is because the German people DECIDED ON THEIR OWN as part of signing the agreement -- they WOULD ABIDE by it! This IS THEE REASON the massive foolish effect of deep punishment! There does NOT NEED to be ANY OTHER REASON---PERIOD! 2) the German people suffered a DEPRESSION --ALL BECAUSE of the VERSAILLES treaty-- COMPLETELY responsible for the hundreds of thousand of people who starved to death and got diseases from being REFUSED medical care--- this went on for NO LESS than 7-10 years! The German Depression happened BECAUSE of the Versailles treaty and WAS ONGOING -----LONG ---BEFORE --- the Depression of 1929! 3) So , you have a DEEPER Depression than the 1929 depression that STARTED AFTER WWl and it CARRIED right into the World Depression of 1929! Even today, there is NOT ONE SINGLE country in this world that could SURVIVE 2 consecutive depressions! THE ONLY HONEST RESULT: the people of Germany were so impoverished, dying by starvation by the hundreds of thousands and disease-----FOR NO LESS THAN 12 years! The big 3- BACKED the German people into such a CORNER; they had NOTHING TO LOSE, they DID NOT CARE what the TREATY SAID, they DID NOT CARE about consequences --this is WHAT HAPPENS WHEN REVENGE GOES -----TOO FAR! The German people were WILLING to turn to ANYONE who would keep them from LIFE LONG POVERTY, LIFE LONG --SLAVE wages and NO chance to do better--- so they took their chance on a crazy man--Hitler! The other ONLY TRUTH that is NEVER discussed; how the Brits and France made SURE the German Citizens --WOULD NOT BE GIVEN---ANY LOANS---REPEAT---NO LOANS --period! This brought about the STRENGTHENING of the JEWISH BANKERS---this ALSO GUARANTEED the ENSLAVEMENT, through slave wages ----- the BORN German citizens would ALWAYS be enslaved by.---- the BANKS---that WERE PRIMARILY---- owned and run by JEWS! When you push ANYONE so DEEP AND SO LONG into a CORNER --- this is THEE RESULT YOU ---WILL GET! The SIMPLE CLEAR PROOF: WORLD WAR ll-- after the devastation and horrible killing of Jewish people--- the LEADERS of the FREE WORLD ----were MUCH SMARTER this time! GO LOOK at the UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER by Germany AND JAPAN!!------NEITHER----TERMS OF SURRENDER --were EVEN --C:LOSE --to as BAD as the --TREATY OF VERSAILLES ! This is ALL THE PROOF YOU NEED! You are WELCOME for -----thee ------ONLY ---TRUTH!

I remember reading or seeing this in either a book or documentary one time. And it went something along the lines as this An American general asked Sadam Hussein after his arrest why are all the muslim countries run by tyrant despotic dictators and he said look at the people we have to rule over

I think the idea that there was any other possible outcome apart from sanctioning the murder of the King is modern-day sensibilities projected on to the past.

To the Irish there is not a lot of difference between Cromwell and Churchill. Both sent invading armies into Ireland to massacre the Irish just for being Irish. The problems of Northern Ireland stem directly from these two monsters. Plus a few more despots. Most British know nothing of their own history, so I wouldn't expect them to know Irish history.

Why is this moment in history not referred to as the English revolution which is what it was? Much of English history has been doctored one way or another.

American here, just looking for a basic understanding of this significant event. I thought Grey, as PM, could force the King the appoint additional Whig Lords, and that threat caused the existing Conservative Lords finally to approve the reform. But that is not the understanding I get from this summary.

This was not an invasion as half of William's troops were English and Scottish. Also, I don't know where this idea that William's army was more sophisticated than James's comes from. James had a standing army of 40,000 men which was more than twice the size of William's army. If James's army had met on the battlefield with William's he would have won easily. You can't cite the fact that the army dissipated on the news of William's arrival as proof that James's army was inherently disorangised. Far more likely is that James's army couldn't organise because the English population prevented them from doing so. News of William's landing sparked a mass revolt against James and this was what prevented James from getting his army into battle. Therefore William was betting on a revolt to succeed and would have known that a 15,000 strong army, by itself, had no chance of taking the crown. To see this as a Dutch invasion is like calling the Soviet invasion of Germany a Georgian invasion, because Stalin was Georgian. Revisonst Historians will go to absolute lengths to try and give some controversial interpretation of history.

My take is that he was a personally decent man, but one unsuited to being a king. In many ways, he was a bit like Nicholas II of Russia. He was a good husband and father and not inclined personally towards cruelty, but that's not what makes a good ruler. Ultimately he failed in his principal duty to govern.
