It is always a big risk but not for the agencies. I feel that their should be a federal law that protects all involved. So many agencies have their own policies. But they should be consistent and unfortunately/ sadly they do not.

Adoption is unethical. Mothers are NEVER given ALL the information before relinquishing. They are promised open adoption when it's not even legally enforceable. The adoption reform? You want to do something, stop selling kids, and HELP MOTHERS so they don't have to relinquish. #familypreservation

The ethical way is to first exhaust all possible temporary options for the child, such as kinship guardianship, and within-family adoption such as kindship adoption, before ERASING THE CHILD'S ENTIRE IDENTITY and causing them the loss of all their family history, family, family medical history. This is TRAUMA. Almost no one should be adopting a child from a family they don't know. They should go for legal guardianship so the child retains their connection to their own identity and all of the above. Nearly all open adoptions close down within the first few years. This is emotional child abuse. There is no legal enforcement of open adoption agreements. It ends in heartbreak for the child and the natural mother. There is trauma from the very beginning for the adoptee removed from our family of origin. To prove it, my neurofeedback therapist treating my adoption hypervigilance-based ADHD just identified early childhood trauma in my anterior hippocampus. And I had the most magnificent, adoring, devoted adoptive parents! The trauma was not from their parenting of me! It had to be from either: 1) my first mother emotionally rejecting me while I was in her womb in order to make it easier for her to give me away, 2) her stress hormones and low neurotransmitter levels impacting my brain since all of these flow through the placenta to the child as the child's brain is forming, 3) my being ripped away from my natural mother at birth, 4) my six weeks in foster care, and/or 5) being placed into YET ANOTHER set of strangers' hands (my adoptive parents) and me, as a baby, not knowing if this is how my entire life was going to be - being passed from one set of strangers to another. If you are a person who arranges permanent adoptions, you are already unfortunately not doing ethical things. It's wrong to be part of legalized child trafficking through adoption. No one has the right to another person's child. I've dealt with my own infertility. I went to counseling to learn to cope with it. It is never right to buy a human being to fulfill a role in your family. Children's needs must be centered, not the needs of adults. The child needs to stay within their extended family if they can't stay with their natural mother. This is a bona fide NEED.
