Played Dumbarnie and Kingsbarns on my first trip a couple years ago. Both are beautiful with great amenities and we enjoyed them both…the turf is also easier to hit fairway metals off. KB isn’t a great value for the money though….skipping it on next trip.

Tom Doak is an arsehole. The Castle course is fantastic, Ru is talking absolute shit. Anstruther is crap. Crail is forgettable. There’s no need to go to Aberdeen on a Scottish trip unless you have 2 weeks.

Randy - I loved your idea of the MLB-esque pitch clock. Playing within a certain amount of time is part of the skill that should be present. The slow play issue is too much of the identity of the LPGA currently. They should absolutely take advantage of the current opportunity with the downturn in PGA interest. Do some innovative things (like .. gasp.. mic'd up players) and show what the future of live golf entertainment could look like.

Something that you only touched on a little was timing. Some courses being “closed to tourists play” in certain times would be great to know but also any tips and tricks for seasonal weather. When have you found in the best time to visit a certain region be it for weather or low (off season) travel to get more favorable tee times? Side note the train from London to Edinburgh is one of my favorite experiences. Then the train from Edinburgh up to fife is great. Getting a cab from there is pretty easy but it’s not cheap and most don’t have a ton of space for clubs. Great pod cannot wait for the next one.

Serious question: how does Pinehurst no. 8 not get a single minute of run on any pod? Is it the Fazio effect? Outside of no.2 it was my favourite course there. Would be the one I’d wanna play every day.

I have only been to Scotland once, it was not really a golf trip but more of visiting the country my family came from but I did manage to squeeze in some golf with my parents. Played The Old Course, Jubilee, Panmure, and Peebles Golf Club. Obviously playing The Old Course was a spiritual experience and is a must for anyone going over. Panmure was my favorite we played, it is a magnificent piece of land and was just a joy. We tried to play the New Course but they had a club championship going on the week I was there. I did play my second shot on #2 at The Old Course from a fairway of the New Course haha.

Visited St Andrews last year. 'Slept' overnight on the bench to get a tee time on the old course in late September despite having a place on the scores 30 seconds away. Got a noon tee time and met some great people. Wouldn't change anything about it.

Writing off the west highlands and the islands is a mistake. The west coast north of Glasgow provides a totally different experience. Last trip included a trip to Islay and Campbeltown. Played The Macrie, Machrihanich and Machrihanich Dunes. Great golf, great scenery and great whisky tours. 1:53:34

If you’ve already done your st Andrews trip you should make the North East your 2nd. Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen, Murcar, Trump Menie Links, Fraserburgh

Going in July as a single staying in east lothian for 4 days then st andrews for 6 days. Planning on doing montrose & arbroath in one day & Fraserburgh another while I try my luck at singles at old. New & jubilee on the list. But going off the beaten path seems like the way to go for me & what I want out of this trip even if a little extra driving a day or two while giving myself plenty of time in st andrews area. Good to hear TC mention Kinghorn that one caught my eye while doing some research.
@paulduthie95248 күн бұрын
You won't be disappointed with Fraserburgh. Fantastic 2nd/3rd tier course. Enjoy it! New and Jubilee are also great courses and a great choice to experience St Andrews.

(East Lothian) gullane 1 & 2 (mixed) was used for scottish open when rickie fowler won gullane 2 is half the price of 1 & still exceptional gullane 3 is a short course but a great course to start if you've never played links 1/3 price other 2 kilspindie - short links course -stunning luffness is a private course right next door - use to use it qualifying for the open too short now adays in todays world - an off the rota trying to play is like getting on Augusta - BUT you could be surprised - turn up say your from abroad - and might give you a tee time these 4 courses within 2 miles north berwick west course is probably the best after muirfield to play weather east coast is generally the best/ playing gullane if weather changing you can see from miles away

Yeah I got kilspindie, NB, Glen, gullane 3, Dunbar locked up already. Very excited! Booked north berwick then pretty much planned the whole trip around that. All the courses have been super helpful and great at responding when I have emailed them.
@mikeamidon84008 күн бұрын
Seems like I’m slightly in the disadvantage as a single because you can’t book any of the st andrews courses in advance more than the day before. Also From what i understand the new way old course does singles is you have to be there in person to use the kiosk 9-5 the day before you want to play as opposed to if you have two or more you can do it remotely. Let me know if anyone had had luck with that this year.

I planned the first tour of our golfing company to Fife - on a budget, and with a high handicap group. It was just a short one, but we played Eden at St Andrews - absolutely great fun, pedigree course. We also played Kinghorn (which I love!) and Anstruther. Just two and a half day but what an experience. Stayed at the Bank Hotel in Anster, just 10 mins from St Andrews. I can highly recommend you don't just hit the top tier courses in Fife, but take in at least one 'locals' course: Burntisland, Kinghorn, Anstruther (Anster), Aberdour, Pitreavie, Scotscraig, Ladybank etc etc. So many options!

Some great suggestions …. Kinghorn, Burntisland and Aberdour what a trio😊
