More water holes. That’s what is missing. Sucker pins and water holes. And I guess 6’ rough.

Brandel constantly talking over Soly is so annoying. Soly had to bail on his very first argument that tall rough is not the ONLY defense against elite golfers because Brandel wouldn’t just sit there and listen for two seconds. And for as much as Brandel wants to look at math, he doesn’t seem to understand that a ball roll back doesn’t create a linear reduction in yardage across all ball speeds. The effect of the reduction will not be nearly as dramatic for the average golfer as it is going to be for the pros. Ironically, he just counters the rollback with a straw man argument that the huge (non-existent) difference for recreational golfers will turn them off of the game.

Brandel doesn't seem to understand you can roll the ball and equipment back and if you over do it, you can easily move the tees forward. If equipment keeps getting better and these guys are hitting it 450 yards, you make tons of historically great courses obsolete over night. Courses would run out of real estate trying to lengthen the courses to 8,500 yards. Youth Baseball all the way through college baseball, the kids play with a metal bat. When you make the jump to the pros they give you a woke bat and then the real hitters separate themselves. Not to mention, you don't have to push the green monster back 75 feet to keep routine pop flies in play. Golf should look into doing something similar. A rolled back ball and Woods should come into play when you are looking to turn pro so we can preserve some of the historically great courses.

re: Tech - I feel like the beginning of the end was huge drivers. A ton of the 'technology' issues could be sorted with a max driver head size. Make it a max of 175cc or so and that single change would go a long way in the right direction.

I have to think they're setting it up difficulty-wise like they did the Women's Open. It'll be a bloodbath.

One thing about the setup, I think the USGA will err on the side of too easy for the first time around as an anchor site. Id rather it be a bloodbath too but I think the USGA is going to be too timid to set that precedent when theyve already got 4 more of these scheduled here
