using it like a rapier will work best imo, I'd buy this if it was cheaper

I bought a extending Patton I also bought a mag light holster and I keep the button on my belt in my holster. Very easy access. Be safe.

I agree with review. Only problem with mine is the locking mechanism didn't withstand impact..so must use the tie down to keep it closed. NO big deal. IT IS ROBUST.

I think we forget how Guru Dan would talk FMA in his book. He talked about it being real. Seems we left "Real" behind somewhere. Nice clip. Nice moves. Go to home Depot buy various sticks. Pressure test the techniques vs what's on the street. Ash broom handle isn't a rattan staff. Hit the wrong way and it snaps like a twig. What about a pole for a shovel??? Why bring this up?? Cause training like this does absolutely nothing except maybe "it's fun". Would be my best answer. Literally have a bin of home Depot sticks in the garage dojo for when people ask "why are you teaching me to hit this way??" I've 43 yrs in FMA so far 😉👍

Anyone willing to spar in a pair of sandals is either not a serious martial artist or the most serious martial artist. Hahahaha! Either way, great breakdown. =)

Sweet. The other week, down over at Dwight Woods school in Miami, he busted out the staffs with us. Really gives another look at timing and distance. Sounds like a fun program.

I think it's a good idea to carry more than one defensive weapon. I think pepper spray or gel is a good idea.

I have that exact same dummy in my bedroom, how happy are you with it? For me, it's a bit lightweight so I have to be careful not to hit it too hard, but I like the fact that I can move it around.

Great video that compliments your …for the streets videos. I would be curious to hear your thoughts about carrying and using compact, bright flashlights as a means to blind/escape from someone who is trying to ambush you. Thank you for sharing the wisdom you’ve gained from decades of research.

Hey there Sifu Burton R... is this a video series? Where can I obtain it? I am a LONG time JKD student/instructor, with not enough dummy knowledge and application. Just partner experience, which is preferred. Now though? No partners want to train as adults. It sucks.

Burton, Hi. Do you think used as an actual arm mbrella, fir rain, skeet, snowy days, opening and closing it a lit, banging it in and out of a truck regularly...that the webbing and extender spring etc. will last for a little lifetime or just a couple years? Thanks.

I’d love to know the total weight, weight of the handle and materials. Is it an 8 ounce steel ball coated with 1/8 inch of plastic? Can a woman knock a man out with a reasonably hard swing? Can it be lethal? What countries is it legal in? Ill go look up the link and hopefully get this info….

Hello I love your teachings .I studied your silat for the sweet and loved it . I would like to study this program but I see it seems to be a right hand only art. I am left handed and my right hand thumb was made all but useless from a bolo attack years ago . Do you think I can still use this style ?
@BurtonRichardson8 ай бұрын
Bolo attack? I’m glad you survived. I didn’t have time in the program to go into left versus right. So there would be a lot of adjusting at middle range and close range. The long range works the same since the checking hand is not involved. Let me know if you have any questions at all. Enjoy your training!
