I read the comments from mine and younger generations. I had this song in existence for 90% of my life. I had heard it hundreds of times. A month ago, I passed over it. Then, a couple of weeks ago, it got in my head after I woke. So I had to play it. I fell in love with this song. I'm 61.

I was 5 in 1972. I have liked Bread for as long as I can remember. This song takes me back to the early 1970’s every time. Someone once told me I was born 20 years too late. Maybe so.

In 1972 I was flying from Norfolk Va. to Pittsburgh sitting next to a guy carrying a briefcase. We talked a bit, and I noticed a small brass plaque on the briefcase "Bread". I asked him what that meant. He said it was his band, who all were also on the flight. He shook my hand and told me he was David Gates. I was a music major in college at the time, and of course recognized 'the name' although I didn't recognize him. He was very nice and we talked 'music' for much of the flight. I doubt he would remember this meeting, but I will never forget it as he was the only 'famous' person I have ever met in my 70+ years.

I read an article about the studio bassist who played on Along Comes Mary. He said he was shopping in a grocery store years after recording the song and it was playing on the overhead music system. It was only then that he noticed he’d made a mistake midway through the song. I think that’s awesome.
