@Holly, ? Are NAR followers truly saved? If they follow a different jesus than the biblical one or listen to a different spirit or follow a different gospel are these people saved?

Someone being a charismatic yet mad at the NAR is like a thief who did a robbery and has stolen goods but is mad that a different thief broke in and stole those stolen goods. Both are wolf clans.

As someone with a church history major from seminary, I can confirm that church leaders throughout history have not taken on the titles of apostle or prophet. They understood that the foundation for Christianity has already been laid. There is no need to add a “new“ foundation to it.

Excellent advice! Reading 3 to 5 chapters a day counts as broadly and often, and will get through the Bible in a year. For deepen, ask questions of the text and seek the answers through Bible reference books, fellow Christians, and sound teachers.

Hello all. Yes, I agree that the Latter Rain was pushed to the periphery of the Charismatic movement, and that the NAR has "baptized" some of its more extreme positions. However, anyone that promotes the concepts of (1) perfection (2) dominion and (3) purge prior to the literal, personal return of Jesus Christ maintains most of the original errors. This can be thought of as a "hands-on" eschatology in which all end-time events are to be accomplished "in and through" the Body of Christ on earth. I know this through primary and secondary sources, personal interviews, and scholarly commentary.

The church I came from exalted their “apostles” and “prophets.” You couldn’t talk to them because they couldn’t be bothered with questions from us low people because they had to “tune in” to the spirit. By the time the service would be over we still couldn’t talk to them because they had to retreat from the crowd and rest after all their false ministering.

I was depressed for a long time going to a WOF church. It was always my fault this, my fault that, our prophet died because we didn’t pray enough. We left that church, I was terrified because i thought God was going to drop a piano on my head for “leaving my man of God.” Five years out, I got the true gospel of Jesus Christ and what his death and resurrection mean, and life has been sooooo good! No depression and more hope than ever even when times are tough. Maybe one day I will say the same for my siblings.

William Branham was a heretic in every sense of the word and yet he is still upheld as a general in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles. It seems the more you peel back these layers and the players involved in the last 100 years or so you find more and more fraudulent miracles, dangerous teachings, false prophecies and fraud in general.

I fled a church that began practicing occult and New Age practices, allied with Bethel and the NAR in 2016, along with bizarre conspiracies, Trump worship, prosperity culture, professional musicians, and chasing after gifts, especially prophetic gifting. When I questioned things, I was vilified. I left and shook the dust off of my feet . Weird goings on, and weirder justifications for it all. I call it deception.

Also from Job…declare a thing and it’ll be established to you. They don’t stop to understand Eliphaz said that. He was Job’s friend that gave bad advise. God doesn’t speak kind words to Eliphaz in the last chapter. It’s like taking something the Pharisees said and because it’s written in the Bible we should follow their sayings.

Thanks to Holly and Doug for exposing the NAR. Our former pastor was looking for something to enliven the church, a new couple joined our church (they were NAR) and our pastor was introduced to an "apostle" (who, we discovered later, had been kicked out of a church in a nearby city). Our pastor got carried away by C. Peter Wagner's teachings. At about the same time, I went to a "community transformation" meeting where local business leaders were introduced to the "7 Mountain Mandate." Our pastor's sermons went from being Biblically solid to this new whatever-it-was, and we were told to follow in lock-step with whatever the "apostle" instructed. Our pastor flew to Texas and visited an NAR church 3 times; he began to copy whatever programs and structure they had. At the time, I knew NOTHING about NAR, just knew something had gone badly wrong in our church. Someone gave me a copy of Holly and Doug's first book, and on a long flight I read it cover to cover, in absolute shock that I was so naive about this NAR movement. I want to personally thank Holly and Dave for all their time, work, and faithfulness to expose the NAR; I can truly say the information they provide in the books got me out of the idiocy before I was completely smothered by it. I prayed that God would give my husband and me guidance and understanding and courage to leave the church, if necessary; we had been there 19 years, had been close to the pastor and his wife; we had many friends there and were deeply involved in the ministries of that church. I was dismayed and in disbelief that our pastor and elders were leading us into NAR. During prayer one Sunday morning, a close friend of the pastor and his wife stood and prayed that we would "take over the seven mountains." And that was the moment we "snapped to reality." We tried to talk to the pastor and our church leadership and were shocked to find them slamming the door in our face and our being lectured to from the pulpit one Sunday morning -- which was our last Sunday there -- because we would not follow the leadership of the "apostle" and his "prophet," so our pastor said he had to "break the legs of the sheep" -- and he was talking directly to us. Five adults left the church that day because by then we were all aware of what was going on THANKS TO YOUR RESEARCH AND YOUR BOOK. We are all in doctrinally-sound churches now.

Spoken words creating reality? Like manifesting your dreams? These people sicken me! With what they have done to scripture to the Holy Word and to the people!! Bill Johnson is not a GOD fearing man! He looks like a dirty hypnotist! The way he speaks his voice inflections and the music and fancy pretty words, I can’t stand it and it reeks to the Most High! Nothing new under the sun but guess what, the True GOD YHVH Jesus Christ (in Hebrew is Yehoshua) is making Himself known! He will gather His people not one will be lost! YHVH is the Eternal Invisible I AM. He does not change! How long was it between the OT and the NT? Did He change then? No! It’s the people who change and they better wake up to eternal life or wake up to eternal separation. These people use divination. They teach divination. What a gross person. Truly despicable to twist scripture and harm people’s lives , bill Johnson is to be marked and avoided at all costs. Life is short bill, hell is forever. Way to go.

I would like to hear more about what was said at the end regarding the music. We recently left our NAR church but are struggling to find a new church as ones that potentially have sound biblical teaching are playing music by artists that aren’t biblically sound like hillsong so do we attend a biblically sound church that plays unbiblical music or not attend church, as that is about our only option where we live. We know playing those artists can be gateways to NAR as that is what happened to us at our previous church. We had not heard of Bethel until we started singing their songs, and it was a slippery slope downward from there and now they fully endorse Bethel, Hillsong songs and teachings so we left. I’m in Australia so the ‘NAR movement’ is still very unknown to people here even though when you know what to look for our churches are being overrun with NAR practices. Thoughts on this issue?

Question: if work is stressful, society is stressful, why would anyone voluntarily join an organization that coerces you for money and uses religious belief to manipulate? It’s voluntary. It’s VOLUNTARY. I see church leadership as abusing volunteers to operate the organization while the top gets extremely rich and pays ZERO taxes. Let’s take away incentives for this abuse

Yes, I’m struggling to find new church. I believe my last church was not forthright regarding their beliefs. Their “what we believe” page was standard and generic. While attending for 9 months, I found out they believe in Lordship salvation, 5 fold ministry, kenosis, and free will in giving up our Salvation once we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. And everything was attributed to the Holy Spirit…

I'm glad when Protestants mention the Bereans. The fact that the Bereans searched the Scriptures (OT) is NOT a proof-text for their Bible-alone practice, and is instead the opposite. Yes certainly, the Bereans searched the Scriptures (a very worthy practice indeed!). But so did the Theesalonians. But look what the Bereans did NEXT. Unlike the Thessalonians who stuck to their "Bible-alone", the Bereans did the OPPOSITE to "Bible-alone". They accepted the Oral teaching of the Church through St Paul IN ADDITION to their Bible, they got baptized, and they submitted to the Church as their Final Authority. The Bereans were the Catholics, because their authority-paradigm was the Catholic paradigm: Written Tradition(Scripture), Oral Tradition, and Church as Final Authority.
