Echoing the comments on what you said about putting the activities that you love to rest during the winter months! As a BMX racing enthusiast in my late 50's, it's imperative that I get as much time in the saddle during the year as I can to keep myself intact and able to continue doing the sport that I loved as a kid and now back into after a 40+ year hiatus! Just want to say thanks for making this video and giving a look at this amazing historic trail! I live about an hour away from the area, but have never ridden it, nor have I had the opportunity to speak to anyone who has. I just subbed your channel and look forward to more of your adventures in the future! Keep pedaling and God bless!

Wow. Thanks much I really appreciate the kind words. Winter is definitely a struggle. It's funny you say bmx because I was starting to get into some bmx racing. Had an indoor track 25 min from home and then covid closed it forever. Was a big blow to my winter sanity.

Sounds like you need to learn to bike in the winter!
@acebikemedia3 күн бұрын
😂. I'll take that criticism. However, I've tried fat biking. It's cool the 5% of the time conditions are good. My big thing is missing the adrenaline from mountain bikes and dirt bikes. I still do some gravel and road in winter. More of a cardio maintainer though.
@TheBane19793 күн бұрын
@ I’m fairly new to bike packing/touring myself. But what ever I’m doing, I hate going all winter without doing something. I had to figure out hiking in the winter prior to this, and this year I’ve been trying to figure out winter bike touring. It’s rough, but not as rough as sitting on the couch for three or four months! I just bought a mtn bike, not a fat tire bike, and have been using it over the touring bike. (I wonder what bike packing/touring would be like on a fat tire bike lol
@acebikemedia3 күн бұрын
@TheBane1979 I've never done any packing on fat bikes but I feel like a lot of guys that do more trail style adventures really like the fat bikes. Sounds like a lot of work to me 😂.

Great video, thanks for sharing your adventure.... It's been about 27 years since I rode that, I definitely need to get back there. You should try the 400 trail which that trail connects to... Wisconsin has so many nice trails like that , we're very fortunate.... In regards to the winter months, that's what the guitars are for, that's why we have them... 😊 Looking forward to your next adventure.... Keep up the great work...

Too bad you didn't go in the summer time because you missed all the butterflies. Had hordes of them for company on sections. Looked like the paths through the tunnels must have been leveled since the time I rode through. They were really crowned and and made you concentrate not to wander into the ditch on either side. You also got lucky not meeting any traffic inside the tunnels with walkers 3 abrest.
@acebikemedia4 күн бұрын
That would have been cool. I'll probably do a summer trip up it next year. I was really hoping for some good falls colors for filming sake. Unfortunately I missed most of it. As for the tunnels, number 1 and 2 were both in great shape. Tunnel 3 was definitely rough. I also had to really concentrate to ride through smoothly. Thanks for watching!

@acebikemedia9 күн бұрын
Honestly if this was a HT xc bike it wouldnt be good. I know it resembles old school mountain bikes quite a bit but those bikes sucked ass. Modern geometry changed MTB. This is very much just a comfortable gravel bike that has some minimum singletrack capabilities

You shouldn't chastise the locals for taking their kids on the trails and teaching them to stop and assess. These are community trails built for all ages and abilities. You can go fast - but you need to go at odd hours and with a spotter.
@acebikemedia10 күн бұрын
I disagree. I think it is good etiquette to teach kids to observe a right-of-way when stopped. It is dangerous to stop on a jump line for anyone, adults or children. I don't want anyone to get hurt. And it happened multiple times this day that I didn't mention in the video. This trail in particular has plenty of room along the trail to stop on the side, not on the top or landing of a jump.
@peakaweek10 күн бұрын
@@acebikemedia Yes it's good etiquette - but this trail was literally built next to an elementary school and it has little kids on it all day. You can't expect elementary school kids to make good decisions so ride conservatively.
@acebikemedia10 күн бұрын
@peakaweek right, but they were with their father. And this isn't about me, it is about the safety of everyone. Sure, kids won't follow the etiquette all of the time but it would be safer for them to be taught to and follow it. Even when my friends and I are riding together, we are on top of making sure each other stays off the trail anytime we are stopped, even if we don't think it's a big deal because of the time or because of the location on the trail.

Slap a Canyon or Polygon sticker on it, and no one will know any better from a distance. The cycling industry has been overtaken by tech bro douchebags who spend $14,000 for a carbon fiber bike just so they can pose next to it and stroke their fragile egos.

Millie Hill trails are OK, but very technical and not very flow-y. I do appreciate what DTN are trying to do and all the hard work they've put in. However, there are a lot of rock outcrops with razor sharp, loose shale that will cut you and your tires. If you're not an expert rider, I would recommend instead checking out the trail system just up the street in Norway, MI in the bluffs above Piers Gorge. Much better and safer trails that flow well and have incredible views.
@acebikemedia26 күн бұрын
Yea I totally get that perspective. I actually just rode the Norway stuff in July. I have some footage that I'll probably post soonish. But I agree with your assessment. I like the technical, nasty stuff so Millie was right up my alley, but like you said, dtn is doing a lot of work so hopefully in the next year or two iron MTN with have an incredible scene for all skill levels.

It's industry nonsense like this that justifies comical dissent in the comments section . Most everyone remembers the introduction of MTB shorts and shoes . these are also known as blue jean cutoffs and sneakers. one company even went so far as to rebrand one model of their sneakers as now being MTB specific . 😂 and now we have a Gravel helmet .😳😂🤣
