For the price you paid for a mediocre job site saw d I y ers like myself have kitted out their garage or shed workshop with piller drill, mitre saw, band saw scroll saw saw bench lathe and planer thicknesser and bench grinder that are all reasonable quality and able to give reasonable accuracy. Some are new and some are good second hand.

Your review could have mentioned a) how often you had to change the blades based in your usage, b) what percentage of dust is collected using the 4" vs 2.5" port. I have the WEN planer and noticed a huge improvement in dust collection by switching to 4" hose. Also, your reasoning for wishing for cast iron wasn't clear. Is there something about the aluminium which doesn't perform well? Additionally, what is not staying put that you have to keep checking for square? Have you looked at any upgrades to knobs or other parts to improve that?

You should be able to use 4 sided carbide inserts to replace the HSS two sided.. Have you measured/purchased and tried any?

Sirs___ everyone you can place 4 stainless plates on the bed (3M bonding tape and true it up for flatness), but really, you should also plane and USE A Jointer also beforehand, And while seeking alph. nirvana in a true quest to be prefect and charge more and not worry about the intricacies of life, psychosis, marital relationships, choice of selecting a shop beanie and gloves; do not work in a shop without them- how dare you video w/o them, WE SHOULD MAKE ALL OURSELVES. SO WE CAN NEGOTIATE OUR OWN LIMITS- SHANT WE? At 71 I still can't find my kitchen timer, my I phone, OS & Data Stiick for operating my HP Worktation laptop $000s new that was repaired 5 months ago and stares at me daily..

cutting corners add 4 sides to the conversation What -add the wheels, really, what a deal breaker. The portability and you just see at least 30 hrs of your labor to repalce a pro who shows up to help ypu do same and more.. But when done and you are old sell it for perhaps a 50% and coindider what you did do,.

Very nice review. I've liked Wen myself as well and do not support any one brand. I have the Wen 13" thickness Planer and like it as well. I would like to get one like this as I have used wider boards as well. I like the thought of an 8" bed rather than a 4" or 6" one. Thanks!

Those carbide blades on the heel head are they the same as what she looks heads and other carbide tipped planer blades use with the four sided blades? You said two sided but they look like those little four sided carbide bits. Edit- you covered it

I've always been a bit leery of these types of jointers because of that aluminum fence, wondering if it is/stays square. I like the idea of the compactness of the unit with the motor being self contained. That being said, I have no problem buying a much older machine and restoring it, knowing that with a cast iron top and fence I can easily keep one square, and with an external motor I can always easily change one out for another if I need to.

I was very irritated that every time I locked down the rip fence it would move just a fraction. Quite a hair pulling experience when needing absolute precision. Then I found a video showing that you simply pull the fence forward as your locking it. Now I love the saw

UPDATE: I had a chance to unbox my SawStop a few days after watching this video. I reiterate, without watching your video, I can say with near certainty that I wouldn’t have removed the shipping pin. Even knowing it was there, and having the instructions in front of me, I missed the stop that instructed me to move the blade to 45°, therefore making it impossible to see the red tape and pin. I also took the time to read the user’s manual - a worthwhile read to save myself money due to improper use, in the future. THANK YOU! Very helpful video. The humor - well…I’m glad he had fun. 🤷♀️ I’m glad I watched this. Without having watched, there’s a good chance I might have missed the shipping pin. That would have been an expensive lesson. If I’m honest, seeing that there were such few parts to install, I might not have made it past the quick set-up guide. Now I’m more inclined to read the manual to learn about other features and how to use them properly. I’m looking forward to unboxing my own. Thanks 🙏
