Nice to see a native used as bonsai. This one has some character for sure 👍🏽 I've got a few saplings for future bonsai about .75" thick but it'll be a while for them. Also the pirate theme was entertaining 😆

It's heavy but not too bad as Cypress wood is a lot like balsa wood but rot resistant - but it's still stupid heavy and awkward

Great build man! What’s your thoughts on keeping the uprights inside the stand a few mm off of the floor to limit contact and prevent any levelling issues? I see a few builds done that way

Yeah it's been growing very well despite me not giving it the attention it deserves. This next spring I hope to make a custom pot for it.

@@givetanks There are millions of these little beech trees that pop up here in the middle of pine plantations which all get run over when they harvest them. Sometimes I get tempted to "Yamadori them but it seems like a kind of delicate process. But it's probably better than being crushed and killed by a log harvester. Perhaps when I have more space I will look into it

@@givetanks Next spring I'll find one and see how it goes. There's plenty of nice trees that meet the same fate sadly. I pulled a little oak seedling a few years back and it's going well but not bonsai material yet

They might work but I like to over engineer things and I use 1" for the top
