The healthy Syd Barrett was very creative. He wrote more than 52 songs. The sick Syd Barrett failed as a painter and musician. Syd was taking drugs even before his time with Pink Floyd!! He continued to take drugs during his two solo albums. At 22, Syd was a sick person. The last documentary 🎥🎞️ unfortunately didn't show anything new. How long did Syd battle his drug addiction?? Was Syd in a psychiatric hospital?? What was Syd Barrett like as a person?? Could he or did he not want to play music anymore?? He painted a few pictures and then set them on fire in the garden. Why did he live so isolated?? His sister Rosemary Breen once said: Syd had to learn to come to terms with his brain damage. There are no more books about Syd Barrett in Germany.

The synchronicity between Chester and Phil is always breathtaking. I'd LOVE to see a sustained overhead shot of the pair of them. It never happens.

When you look at their touring and recording schedule for 1967, the answer seems to be burn out. It's a wonder why the whole group didn't go utterly mad and ran for the hills. Especially when it becomes a 'job'. Those hours and that amount of pressure, with Syd's temperment, of course he self-medicated, and of course that made things worse. But also, if you're working those hours, of course the band would be miserable and unforgiving of the one guy who is getting detached and not putting in his part of the job. The live recordings we have show that Syd was still a stellar performer and player, but I'm sure the spooky backstage stuff might have had more of an effect on their decision.

Honestly, I LOVED Hentschel's production. But I think the 80's demanded more rhythm focus than melody focus. That ushered in Padgham's production.

Anyone who thinks he wasn’t in that car is foolish. It would’ve been a lot less scandal for Kennedy to say that she was the only one in the car and wrecked in the story that they came up with that foolish! The only way he was not in that car when it wrecked as if she was already dead and they pushed the car over the bridge

That's a polite way of saying, hey I practically made you guys spend your money when I should have cancelled the show. In reality, who ever put on that show was hoping for the best and ran away with the money. The English are the most polite people on the planet😂

Delightful interview. I'm glad Genesis had such a hard working guy to see them through the early years as a musical leader. The insights about Peter working the phones in those days are really interesting and are such a good reflection on his character, too.

Ted was always the weakest link amongst the Kennedy men; he lacked intelligence, fortitude, courage and a moral compass and seemed to pity himself for being left without his brothers. Instead of the situation making him stronger he gave in and became a notorious drunk and drug user. Pitiful. I feel so sorry for everyone he used & abused.

This was an informal conversation . Not a question and answer session. In my experience the informality creates the best atmosphere. It’s here in largely unedited form , though it was not originally intended to be shown like this. Filmed to be edited for my 2014 Genesis documentary.

@ on Phil’s last solo tour he suddenly became hyper critical of Chester’s playing and would berate him after the shows in a way that shocked and confused Chester, as if they hadn’t played together for all those years. Chester didn’t deserve it and it was highly disrespectful of a man who was good enough to play with Zappa and Weather Report, not to mention Genesis. Phil was famous for his “after the gig” temper tantrums.

First of all thank you very much for sharing all of this, last week I discovered this and they are so precious, at the same time I've become so anguished by all that happened with him and how things were handled. It's beautiful to see how loved he was, but it's also heartbreaking to feel like he ended up abandoned by the same people who cherish him so much. I have no idea how I would deal in such a situation with a friend and see it happening, it must be a terrible position to be in, but at the same time, he must've felt so alone. Every time I think of Dark Globe when he goes "Won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all?" in the end despite him being so terribly missed he probably never felt that. I wonder if it was now with all that we know about mental health perhaps things would've been so different. And also will we see a parallel genius in our time?
