I own the 300gm and love it. I cover all sports (indoor and outdoor) with it. I’ve been looking at picking up the 400 at some point but it almost seems duplicative with high rez bodies like my a1 and rv. Would love to hear your thoughts
@instamauimatt2 ай бұрын
Hey there, thanks so much for asking. I agree, the 300mm is literally just downright awesome - in fact I just made a post about it on my IG saying how I love it and how I love how light weight it is. I hear ya in regards to the camera bodies, I get that for sure - I am always a believer the glass is more important the camera body though. I think for me the best way to describe the difference between the 300 and 400mm would be to take a zoom lens that you have (70-200 or 200-600, 100-400 or whatever use you have) and take a photo at "X" mm and then zoom in 100 more mm and then compare the shots - try to make the subject 1/2 of the frame in each or play around and you will see the extra 100mm makes a HUGE difference. I think there is a big difference in getting the reach vs getting that background just totally blown out and it took me a while to get that myself - I was always thinking in my photography that I just needed the reach (ie just getting closer zoom to the subject) but what I really wanted was the drama of the background. The background in your images is SO important regardless if it's a smooth creamy solid color or some really cool branches that are blurred out and create unreal texture to your photos. The other challenge/elephant in the room is the cost of course... I get it, $12K is a bit of a pill to swallow though for me, I knew exactly what purpose this lens was going to serve and I knew that by investing, I could earn it back and then some buy getting it fairly quickly-ish, I do not regret it because Im addicted and love shooting. Just my two cents :)

Had to get it, as the 100-400 could not even get that close
@instamauimatt4 ай бұрын
Yea the 100-400 is a solid option for a lot of people though I is not really that much faster for aperture and also the extension tube for me does not work - I'm outside in the elements and love the other lens options that have the internal zoom vs. the exposed tube that could let the elements in - for me, it's sand/dirt. Makes way more sense to me to have the 200-600 for the reach, image quality, and the internal zoom.

Yep - i get it, photography is expensive however, for the value you get out of this lens for the price, I still feel this is the best bang for you buck when comparing other options in the native lineup of Sony lenses to get the focal length needed for the price.

Which one is better for sports?
@instamauimatt7 ай бұрын
That can be a loaded question though I think it really depends on what you are shooting and what your shooting style is. I have shot the 300 with water polo, surf, horseback riding, birds, etc. and it's killer to get a little wider of a shot. It is ultra lightweight and well balanced and sharp as can be. The 400 gives you that extra reach you need though it is nearly double the weight of the 300 so there is that to consider as well. Last night I shot surf with the 400 + 1.4x teleconverter and was so happy with the photos being tack sharp and still getting the reach I needed. Lots of factors to consider when getting either of these lenses though I am in love with both of them!

@@instamauimatti shoot high school sports and am allowed to be on the field. I tried a 300mm but was wondering if i should go for a 400 or 300 +1.4 tc. Your opinion would be appreciated
@instamauimattАй бұрын
@@FerdinandTerreros In m opinion I think that will just depend on a few things. 1) If you are using a higher MP camera body you have the ability to crop in during post if you get the 300mm. If you Want the reach and prefer to shoot higher shots, the 400 would be killer. Tricky part of sports on a filed is action is shifting from ultra from to close pretty quickly and of course, available light is always a challenge too. Both the 300 and the 400 are F2.8 lenses which is outstanding. When possible, I prefer not to use the teleconverters unless I absolutely must use it. The price difference is double between the 300 and the 400 so there is that factor as well. I think if I did not own the 300 and the 400, I would most likely get the 300 and then get an A1 body so I would have the ability to crop in post production though some people are just not into editing images like that... tough call though for sure between the 2 lenses.

I think the sensors on the mirrorless cameras can just handle it. To this day, I am still using Sony's base full frame camera body - the A7iii. I did maybe 15% noise reduction in post production on some shots that I took the same evening as it can get a little noisy in the shadows otherwise.

Hey super work and video which one to choose between -A7RV WITH 300 MM GM + 20-70 2.8 GM -CANON R3 100-300 2.8 GM THANKS SO MUCH SIR AND BEST WORK
@instamauimatt9 ай бұрын
Hi Flo! I think that is a great question and also kind of will depend on what it is you are shooting. I am bias towards Sony only because my entire camera system is Sony, though each option brings something to the table here. It's kinda a loaded question since there are factors that I would have to consider. If you need a higher frame rate, im pretty sure the Canon R3 offers more frames at lower megapixels then the Sony 7R5. The Canon 100-300 has got to be an insane lens, but do you need that specific range? The risk of having the sony 300 is that it is a prime lens but cost less. Do you need the mega pixles and ability to crop? These are just some of the factors that I would consider personally without getting into the politics of what is a better system or who has better glass. Both options are killer but again really depends on what you need it for and what results you want to get.
