I was there! I also was at the Lafayette. BTW, they left in a laundry truck, not a fish truck. I was in Section D. The moment they came on stage, all the girls stood up on their seats. I was short and a lady next to me put her hands on my waist and held me up while I stood on the back of the seat and could see them. I also discovered that by putting my fingers in my ears, I could hear them sing. It drowned out the screams and strangely made it possible to hear the music.

I have a WW l picture of the Ex-Fifth Regiment Field Music Drum Corp & the 114th Infantry Band passing in Review City Hall on Market Street. Also have a lot of info on the Fifth Regiment Field Music that were Headquartered at the Paterson Armory to escort the Troops in every and all Events. When I saw the Bass Drum of the 114th Infantry Band and mention of the Fifth Regiment I just had to respond.

Thank you for that fine video. It is sad to see those famous Lou Costello landmarks in such bad shape. I live about 15 minutes drive from Paterson. It is sad to see the condition Paterson has become. I was told it was very beautiful once by people who grew up in Paterson. Too bad Lou passed away so young. Rest in Peace Lou.

...dunno if you ever saw the old post office on Main St - it had murals of the early years of the movie history of the town...I grew up there from 1950 to 1961...there's a picture of the studio on the corner of Linwood Ave (where I lived) and Main St that shows the reflection of Holy Angels Academy (both my paternal aunts graduated from there)...that studio burned to the ground in 1958 - I passed it the day after it began burning on my way to and from 4th grade at Our Lady of Fatima grammar school on Whiteman St...a kid who lived two doors down was one if the kids inside the warehouse when it caught fire - he and his friends were playing with the old, flammable nitrate films - and using a Zippo lighter- which is what caused the fire

Excellent coverage, I thoroughly enjoyed your documentary, Nick. That said, after many years of personal research into this tragic case, I now resolutely accept that Bruno Hauptmann was framed by the establishment and subsequently executed by the establishment for a crime he did NOT commit.

Nice work! My great grandmother had one of the wallets made from LeBlanc's skin. She said they were auctioned off in order to offset the expenses incurred for the trial and hanging. When she died, she left it to my grandmother. My grandmother did not want the macabre thing in her house so she gave it to the Morris Museum.

I attended St. Anthony's School in Beech Street from nursery to 8th grade (Ervin Nieves, class of 1977), attended Don Bosco Technical High School (1977-1981) and I used to box in Lou Costello's boxing gym where Rocky Lockridge, Diego Rosario, Bobby Cyz, Curtis Harris, and others were training at the time. I met two old ladies who grew up with Costello -- his actually real name was "Lou Cristello", "Costello" was his stage surname -- in Paterson. They rented an apartment at 58 17th Avenue in Paterson, where my parents were the superintendents and I was raised from age 5 to 22. The ladies dressed in an impeccable 1940s style (like Louis Lane in Superman) and told me stories of Lou Cristello. Fun memories.
