Sounds like you’re low key defending the threats made against those in the RC. As multiples have stated, these cards were in fact problems and from a gameplay POV these were good bans. Just done at the wrong time, yes people were going to be upset. But to be upset to the degree of threatening another over cardboard is just asinine. Also I don’t understand why so many people are obsessed with the “value” of their cards. First and foremost it is a game meant to be played, while yes it is a “collectible” card game, the degree in which WotC has forced it is awful. They force the high value cards by specifically printing low numbers and making the prints far and few between. To quote you “Lotus, Dockside, and Crypt were all high value reprints in several sets that’d give players a chance to get their hands of these cards courtesy of WotC.” Firstly, you sound like a WotC simp, not saying you are…but that’s what you sound like. Secondly, WotC is the reason these cards are even so expensive in the first place because they aren’t printed often and when they are they are printed in LOW quantities. Making the FOMO aspect kick in, lots of players/collectors will buy SO MANY packs chasing that ONE card that they may never get. And if you turn to singles be ready to drop $100+ on a piece of cardboard. TL;DR: WotC is driven by greed, always has been and always will be. Have fun having an even more gatekeep-y format that only cares about your money and not how you feel about the game at all.

@@otterfire4712 I wouldn’t say they expected things to be “fine” they knew full well there would be major backlash, as they even withheld information from advisory group as well. Fearing leaks, they knew what they were doing. But I seriously doubt they were expecting the backlash to the extent they received it in. Especially Olivia who was against mana crypt ban and jeweled lotus ban. I think it is inexcusable to even act like that, especially over a card game that is meant to be played and have fun. Not worth the anger levels that were given. I was upset by this ban too, as I have two crypts and a dockside myself…but I understand that its a game and that these cards had the potential to be banned as all powerful cards do. All in all, I just think the negative outburst from “that” portion of the community was very uncalled for and inhumane.

I think it'd fall closer to cedh playing towards brackets one and four while two and three would be for more casual players with varying degrees of power there.

really? I'm much more optimistic. as a thought experiment, if everyone had access to all cards for free, do you think vintage would the most popular 1v1 format? I think not. I think people would still play a variety of formats depending on their mood.

There will definitely be tiers inside tiers like a deck is technically a 3 but because of how it works, or what it runs it still doesn't do well with more soild 3's this tier system is going to be a mess and honestly will turn off the game for a lot of people.

@@KupoPotion take notes about the construction of the deck and make tweaks to improve the list so that it can better fit in bracket three. Sometimes it's just a bad hand that you opened and you're watching the fallout of that bad hand. Additionally, if certain cards underperform at a bracket, say three, then WotC could keep an eye on bracket two to see if those bracket three cards could fit into bracket two without significantly influencing the bracket.

And this tells me you haven’t seen WotCs history with not just MTG but their other products. You can say that it won’t be bad all you want…but to say the worst they could do is “nothing” is CRAZY. There is WAY WAY worse things they could do. For example unbanning just the top-sellers but banning more affordable options that could also be seen as “unfair” or “to fast”. All they are going to do is prioritize whatever makes them the most money whilst making it seem like they care. But as stated in this very video. WotC doesn’t care about you, or me, or any of its player base. Only the collectors that bring in a majority of the money.

Also the idea that ONE CARD determines the whole deck is absolutely ludicrous. Why even have a banlist at all at that point? If I have an overall 1-2 deck but just happen to run a card that is a 3-4 just the one, all of the sudden the deck gets scaled up to that power-level. You are now effectively gatekeeping even more than before via that method. Now if you have a card that makes your whole deck a 4 but you can’t keep up with other 4’s because your deck is actually a 2 with a 4 card in it. It’s going to be a fucking mess.

I agree. Yes it took WotC too long to ban Nadu, but it's not like the RC was doing regular bans. And anyone saying WotC is gonna turn around and unban the cards from the other week is insane.

@@cool_scatterI don’t see how it’s insane considering WotC’s priorities, which are profits. Nadu wasn’t a SUPER expensive cards like Jeweled, Dockside, or Crypt. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two make a comeback…OR like the creator of the video said, they’ll probably just make a new card that mirrors one of the effects essentially being the same card. I don’t think it’s insane at all personally.

I think wotc is going to break commander down into different power levels. This format makes them way too much money for them to have a $200 card be banned

They were forced to ban Nadu and Grief. They didn't want to. But attendance numbers were starting to plummet, and NOBODY was willing to watch a Nadu combo on stream. Grief literally killed a format and had to go, but they let it linger a full year first. The One Ring is still in every single deck, and they just casually say they know this but since the decks don't revolve around it, they think it's fine? Or is it more like it would look really bad to ban the card that sold for 1.5 million dollars to a rap star?
