On discovering a Northern Irish Uni pal studied (English) A-levels, I asked if he studied French. He claimed he did. "Say something in French" - I rudely demanded in disbelief. His heavy Northern Irish Newry accent "Paar-lay voo fron say?" response lives with me to this day, 40 years later! 🙂

In fact that long word is made up. It's grammatically not incorrect, but there is no real context it would fit in.

While i first learned english (US) i was around white people only. That's the only english i understood. Later, when i heard some black people and rednecks talking it felt like a totally different language. I didn't understand a single word and found it very uncomfortable when they were actually talking to me. Took me a few purposely selected TV shows to get familiar with their accents and now i actually enjoy all the different varieties...

I was in Scotland a while back. Mostly I understood everyone fine. I've grown up watching so much UK television the accents don't really throw me off. There was one guy though I tried talking to and I gotta be honest. I don't think either one of us got anything out of that conversation.

The Day of The Dead in El Salvador is called Dia De Los Fieles Difuntos and you eat hojuelas that day . Another Salvadoran festivitive is 3 of May : Dia De La Cruz. On May 3rd ,you are suppose to put up a cross and decorated with colorful paper, flowers and fruits offerings; if you do not do this folkclore says theDevil will come and dance in youy garden . Also in December ,the day of teh Virgen of Guadalupe is el Dia De Los Indios ,and they dress kids as "indians " .

I used to like the Welsh until I found out they helped the English fight against the Scots and were the reason the English won one of their major battles. Not a fan anymore.

Scots-Irish descent and love both accents. Here in America, being the 'melting pot', accents vary from state to state even. It's all English-American, but the accents are different within the same language. Just like you told us about Scotland and Ireland.

With people like this I always wonder how they would think if they had had been brought up in an entirely non-religious environment. In Australia, young people who fully believe in the christian concept of a god like this, and guide their life by that belief, are comparatively rare.
