You did a great job and displaying that shotgun I didn’t enjoy your video. This is just me. I personally go for American made at Winchester, which I have a couple of my collection. That’s just me. I would like to see more videos and see what you have.

I have the pietta in .357. Love it. I dont know why its such a soft shooter but full power .357 to me is like shooting .38 special. Maybe its the grip frame?
@Scorpmann1969Ай бұрын
I just picked mine up today and felt the same. Expected it to be harsh with the .357 ammo, but it was like you mentioned, not really any different than firing 38 special. Beautiful gun all the way around.

I used to not be crazy about checkering on an SAA but but my Taylor’s “Runnin Iron” feels really nice in the hand. I may buy some. Petersons elk stag grips for it. Mine is in stainless steel too.

Well here I am back again. I liked my Rossi 20" 45 Colt so much I bought two more in 44 Mag and .357 Mag - my .357 Mag is a 24" rifle. I just ordered some of the PPU 158 grain JHP for it.

I have never gotten mine to work for more than two shot. Mainly it just won't eject the round, sometimes won't extract. Every now and then I take it out and try something or other. I think it might actually, despite the markings, be intended for even shorter shells. I'm thinking of picking up some min-shells and seeing if it'll run with those. Cool video and glad yours works!

Good video. First off, I’m leaning towards buying a Henry Big Boy lever action rifle in either .357 Magnum or .45 colt next year . After seeing the aftermath of those encyclopedias, I’ll get the rifle in .357 Magnum. Secondly (Historic Alert), speaking of 44-40, that was the preferred choice of Legendary Mexican revolutionary, Pancho Villa. Pancho usually armed himself with a pair of Colt Bisley Single Action revolvers and a Winchester Lever rifle, all chambered in 44-40, so that he could carry only one type of ammunition (a great tactical move, if you ask me). I could only imagine the agonizing deaths that Pancho’s enemies suffered, when being hit by those 44-40 rounds, once again, based on the encyclopedia ballistics. Yikes!!!

This is the first time I’ve seen someone using a full on rifle powder to load these types of rounds (I’m usually looking at 45 colt) but it makes perfect sense if you want to keep pressure as low as you can. You just have to be willing to use 2x the powder. I know my 1892 doesn’t need the pressures policed this strictly so I’ll probably use a much faster powder to get my target fps but I know these toggle links are much weaker.

Isn't it interesting how leverguns just seem right.. I have many in many calibers and in the hunting camp every fall we have levergun weekend. No scopes, no bolt actions or semis. Just your wits, your patience, and your eyeballs. You know you earned when the deer is down under a 100yds and it used all your gifts as a hunter to get the job done. It's my favorites weekend that I tend to make most of the season....When the boys go back to their chocie weapons, I'll still walk the woods with the levergun. There is just something magical walking the deer and bear woods with a historical weapon like our forebearers did. Not that the others aren't fabulous, but, the Ubertis are truly beautiful firearms.

I've been looking at the Cimarron and the Chiappa versions of this and from what I have seen those two lead the way to quality. Cimarron is the best bang for buck since it's not too fancy and seems to have (from the videos I have watched) real good reliability compared to the Chinese copy. The fit and finish are fine but none too flashy except the original old Winchester Repeating Arms logo on the receiver. And the Chiappa seems to have both the smoothest action and the nicest looks but it commands a premium price. They have real case hardened receivers and nicer looking wood but you're looking at over $1500 for one of those. If I had the money I'd probably spring for the Chiappa but I imagine I'm going to just go with the Cimarron since it's like half the cost for only perhaps 5% less function.

Fav load is 9 to 10 gr of Unique. 9.3 will give about 1350 fps out of a 24 inch barrel and about 1100 out of a 5 1/2 in Colt SAA. 10 grains are safe out of modern guns and will give about 1450 from rifle and about 1200 from same Colt. They are very accurate out of both rifle and handgun if you use the correct dia bullet for your firearm. The bullets are standard 200 gr lead fnrp. Happy shooting.

Awesome video. I'm looking at picking up one of those rifles this weekend. I'm leaning towards 45 Colt as my pistol is in that caliber. I'd like to find a recipe for something more than plinking loads.
@denisdegamon822410 ай бұрын
I have used 8.5 - 9 grains of Alliant Unique powder. That 9 grain load using a hardened RNFP 250 grain bullet. It is at the top of the standard pressure for the 45 Colt. I beleive I was getting about 1,150 fps from the 24" Uberti 1873 barrel. Should be plenty for even deer sized game up to 75 yards and pleasant to shoot in a rifle.

A few Comments refer to the modern, Italian manufactured, 1873 carbines' barrel length at 19". WHY THEN, when the original, vintage Winchesters were 20" bbl carbine and 24" bbl rifle as standard lengths for each model, are Italian clones 24" bbl rifle yet 19" bbl carbines? Same holds true with the 1892 it seems.

For comparison it would be helpful to see results with Winchester's factory load, Super X Power Point 200 gr. JSP. You know, for that GREAT DAY when it becomes plentiful again on the shelves and mail order. And HOPEFULLY less than $4/per round. So much of the available data is for the Cowboy Action Shooting loads. Congratulations on your fine rifle. Thanks for your demonstration and information provided, "OSF Outdoors."

Great information on reaming the chamber and what a bad ass looking rifle!! No tang safety, no crossbolt block safety. I don't know what the hell is wrong with companies now a days. If Marlin and Winchester made guns that looked like this one they would never be in financial trouble. Take a look at the Uberti line up. These guns look like the originals and are very popular. Just like the auto industry, If they brought back the 1969 Mach-1, the Stingray, Barracuda, Chevelle, Nova and the Buick Rivera from the 70's they couldn't make them fast enough.

The R7 load was developed many years ago, it’s a proven accurate, and safe load. 24-26 grains (depending on barrel dimensions) behind a 200 grain lead bullet will attain the original 1873 design spec velocity of 1,350 fps from a 24” bbl.
