Bays in the Madison area are on fire for gills. Seems like a great year class this year, that I've noticed anyways. Was out this week and didn't catch anything under 8". Shallow weed lines, small jigs, waxworms.

this was last weekend Jan 10-12. If there is still no snow I would stay away from others. the fish were very spooky with no snow on the ice. Dead sticking worked best for us except late at night (1-4am). We had a few missed tip ups using rosies for perch where they grabbed it and dropped it. Fatheads did not get hits. all walleye hit were the 2-3" suckers. no jig just treble hook. And be VERY careful around the cracks as there are a few of them. lots of open spots. stop and check with a spud bar. The 5 seconds of time is well worth it. outside of the cracks the ice was great.

Down size ur hooks. Less is more. N the fish are incredibly spooky. 27ft water don't matter. Clip ur tails on ur sucker minnows. Fish can get picky when it's cold come look. Swim off after staring at it. I live here fish tons. 3in shiners on a 14# treble 4lb or 6lb ultra thin. Flouro is not needed. 4 6lb test use ur drag. Slip sinker on ur tip ups and 20 in leader to barrel n small 14 treble. Ur welcome lol. Simple is good. Jig ur glows at prime. Vibrate it up they will follow.
@FallentreeOutdoors10 күн бұрын
I did clip all the tails on the suckers and shiners, we also used # 14 and #10 trebles. 4lb test. I use 36" leaders. We just did not mark fish. the fish we did mark we caught. I dropped my phone down the hole like an idiot and lost the footage of all the walleye I jigged up over night on wonderbread jigging rap tipped with a minnow. But all good tips! thank you!

Any tips to keep perch on the hook? Was jiggin for em yesterday and as soon as I’d start to pull them up they just get right off and I was using a panfish hook
@FallentreeOutdoors11 күн бұрын
Sometimes that is the side effect of using a small presentation. Was your hook plain or did you have it tipped with something? I would try to move up a size jig as well . Also try changing your hook sets differently may have to do it a little quicker hook sets or more aggressive.
@sircallahan420411 күн бұрын
@ it was a plain hook with a Rosie on it. I was thinking maybe some of the Rosie’s I was using might of been too big
@FallentreeOutdoors11 күн бұрын
You can tie a ultra light stinger onto your jig and that will help. it does change the presentation a bit but it will help with the light bites.

That .308 diameter bullet was rattling down that .321 bore with low pressure behind it as the gas was blasting past the little bullet. No telling where that shot went...but it was seriously sub-velocity!! Don't ever do that again!! :)
@FallentreeOutdoors11 күн бұрын
Ya we figured that out last minute it was a last minute choose since he didn’t have anything other to shoot and his shooting range was going to be only 10 yds . After what we read on forums and what not we read it seems liked a ok decision.. well it didn’t turn out well lol. Thanks for the watch!
