@@EddieClarkOh I see! I was going left to right on your board, was confused. What does just your rhythm parts look like? Curious if you till use the Strymon for a bit of a doubling for some rhythm tracks like the octaves on cherub rock for example. Also would you ever consider doing Mellon Collie tones as well or even just other artist tones that are hard to get?

Do you think it's worth holding out for a Beringer dual phase or is the bad stone pretty much the same?
@EddieClark7 күн бұрын
The Bad Stone works in a pinch but I still think a Bi-Phase or Bi-Phase clone is the best way to go.
@paradox6028 күн бұрын
hey eddie, when you can, can you look at the behringer clone of the biphase? heard its good-also has a expression input. Appreciate what you do!
@EddieClark8 күн бұрын
I know a few folks with it now. It’s a good alternative. The only thing to know is that you need a CV expression pedal such as the Mission Engineering CV Expression pedal. They are pricier than a standard expression pedal BUT the Behringer unit is still cheap enough that it ends up being a great cheaper alternative.

Hi. I've recreated Billy's sound in the late 90's. I was using an Eric Clapton Signature series and a JCM 800 with a black Russian Muff. I then changed to Gibsons, cause that's what all my bands from then on needed. I recently bought a 70's strat all original, but that doesn't cut like the Clapton did regarding getting the early pumpkins sound. I hate to go lace again, do you have any experience, outside the billy Corgan dimarzios, yes, also had a Fender billy Corgan signature strat, hated that strat, that you can recommend or have experience with outside the Laces? Cause I'd like to see that poles... Bare knuckles? Seymours? Anything? Thanks in advance for any kind of help. Great videos, Cheers

Standard Strat single coils can get you there for the distorted sound. I made a video showing what effect different pickups and amps have when going for the Siamese Dream sound. Siamese Dream Sound - Do the Amp and Pickups Matter? kzbin.info/www/bejne/iV66qoqelKqkkMk
@ReeseChown27 күн бұрын
Marshall amps will set you free. Using that as the power amp and base of your tone will get you into Pumpkin territory. Modern Marshalls like the JVM and DSL series heads will definitely get it done, since he had always used modded, jumped up versions of the JCM-800 with KT-88 tubes. Now for live tones... A common misconception is that Corgan used the same Big Muff Pi and JCM-800 live on the Siamese Dream TOUR, which is false. He couldn't get the Muff to sound good live, so he ditched the JCM "SOUL" head and started using a JMP-1 preamp going through a Marshall Monobloc power amp in rackmount form. He had already owned the Mesa-Boogie Strategy 500 power amps during the recording of Siamese Dream, but he wouldn't incorporate the two units into his rack until early 1995. A lot of the effects was an Eventide H3000 Ultra-Harmonizer and possibly something else. He loved the Yamaha REX-50 on the Gish tour as well. I know this is for the album tones, but I'd like to add context to a live application

Not only works with badstone as a filter...you can try any pedal
@EddieClarkАй бұрын
Yes. Other pedals can work but the pedal has to able to stay as a filter and not sweep. Pedals like the Phase 90, Phase 100, Small Stone, Fender Stage Phaser, EHX Flangers without a Filter mode, etc will not work. EHX Electric Mistress with the filter function sounds great for this type of sound.

Wonderful job! And still…there’s something about the guitar tone in soma that just impossible to capture, I really don’t know what it is. It’s as if this song is haunted or magically sealed, the distortion on the record is just out of this world.

So beautiful man, what an amazing song soma is, the kind of song that stands on a league of its own. I just keep trying imagine how Billy managed to come up with that in 1991-1992, it’s just so ahead of his time. Even today, 20 years plus later it still holds its freshness and a magical sound to it. Just amazing, man, what a great work of yours. Wish we were writing some songs together with that Siamese sound, we could make our own B-sides of such an amazing record!

This is gold content, man! That soma intro at 04:43 was just out of the park accurate! Beautiful work of yours in figuring out that pumpkins sound so well and sharing it with us here on youtube. I live in Brazil and must say that these pedals that you are using they're just the deadly expensive around here, but still you offer the guidelines for us to get that there, and that makes this whole video so valuable for me and most guitar players interested in learning how to understand how unique guitar tones are created.

How did you determine amp settings? I just picked up a Marshall 4x12 JCM800 lead 1960a cab with original vented white label G12T-75’s and as soon as I plugged in lace sensor strat into my JMP 2204 with the master cranked and low gain through my 1978 op amp big muff, that was IT. So awesome. It’s really important to emphasize the early white label G12T-75’s. Even the later UK models were vastly different, not to mention the Chinese 75’s. Surprisingly, Creambacks sounded way closer to the vintage white labels than actual newer G12T-75’s. Finally, as difficult as it is to justify, the sound of a 4x12 is crucial. Even close miking a single singer. The cab just resonates differently.
@EddieClark2 ай бұрын
Billy shows his JCM 800 setting a few times in interviews. I think the first place he mentions it is in the Siamese Dream tab book. I use the original vented white G12T-75s as well as a G12-65 (the predecessor to the 75) loaded 4x12. Vintage speakers are almost always better. If your JMP has EL34’s, try out KT88s. Tubes don’t really sound too different but the added headroom with the master on 10 makes a difference. Thanks for watching!

Make sure the treble is at 0 or 1. I never run more than that. Also to consider, the JMP’s are often a little brighter than the JCM versions. I’ve had multiple of both and I usually end up with a bright cap delete in the JMP amps.
