Thanks. No plans. Just finding tables on the internet from furniture stores, looking at dimensions, and going from there. The legs are sort of my own design after seeing what is out there and just coming up with something we liked.

cool. now what finish?
@madebylyonsАй бұрын
Just posted a video. I used Rubio monocoat natural. Its more of a light use table so I am not concerned about the finish not holding up since I know sometimes people are hesitant to use Rubio on tables. We really wanted the natural color so this finish was the best option.

Was trying to figure out if you glued the tracks or not. Wasn't sure how you leveled it all up.
@madebylyonsАй бұрын
Since making this video, I have started actually just using screws, countersunk from the outside, to attach the tracks. A little quick and not quite as messy.

Rubio makes a sheen plus, which adds a satin look to the usual matte sheen of monocoat 2C. I used it for a guitar case rack. It effectively acts as a second coat. Looks nice.

Great video! Did you not want to use magnets in case they fall off and get ingested by little kids or were you trying to be realistic to a coupler (within realm of simplicity) found on real trains?

Thanks for the video. I followed the instructions and built one about 8 months ago. It looked beautiful when finished. But now, after being outside for about 5 months, the seat and the front of the back are very faded and mildewed. The less exposed surfaces look better. Did I do something wrong? Note that this is in southern Michigan, and in a partially shaded location.

How easy is it to fix the scrubbed off finish with another application?
@nicholascrawford60687 ай бұрын
I'm curious too, if I were to guess pretty easy, couple drops rubbed into the worn area and buffed to blend probably would hide it well.
@Stu815 ай бұрын
Even if it's a 6ft table it wouldn't take long to scuff the whole surface with a maroon pad and refinish the entire surface but you can spot repair but it depends on how long ago the original finish was done as if you spot repair it will likely have a high sheen in that spot, natura make an exact copy of Rubio and is cheaper and it can go over Rubio.

Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) will remove sharpie and crayon with ease. So now the question is what will IPA do to Rubio?
@raidhanna82847 ай бұрын
Beautiful job....How did you calculate the angle cut of the base to get it flat with the floor, and same thing for the top of the cone. How did you cut it to have it flat where the top of the table sits flat on it?
@mikiauto738 ай бұрын
You need to use ceramics over Rubio. Two coats of Rubio changes nothing.

Great video! Question, would this oil be a good choice for an outdoor bar top for my BBQ area? I'm using a slab for the bar top. Thx!

My grandfather built a marble roll in the 1920's somewhat similar to this. His was significantly better though. The marbles went down the first shaft and instead of being stopped and falling, it contacted a curved piece of leather which did not slow the marbles down and sent it on to the next wooden shaft. At the end was a round metal tin box that the marbles were stored in. The sound that the marbles made when they all landed in the tin was magnificent. We had a blown decorative piece of glass that we would use to back up large groups of marbles then let them go as a group. My Gramp's was a master woodworker born in 1888 and I am 72. I am so excited to bring this to our family reunion this summer to introduce it to our young grandchildren to play with. This is a nice build but no where near as good as our families antique. No offense. Thanks for posting your video, much enjoyed.

Wow - real classy. Dumping on the displayed project and then proceeding to give us an unsolicited history lesson on your family which has nothing to do with the video. An alibi "no offense" isn't going to change that this really was a move of terrible social grace.

For the scrub, i would recommend a white scotch brite pad. The light duty cleansing pads. They are 1500 grit, should leave a nice finish. I use it often to set the sheen to my liking. Its also what i use after touch ups/repairs to match the sheen.

Tip for you brother, as a fellow woodworker. Use a bondo spreader instead of a metal spatula, to spread the material. - Oil will catch some of the metals and can change the color of the stain - Scratches/dents the wood surface when spreading with a metal spatula

Thanks for the video! And the little bit of humor along the way! I'm in the process of planning to build my own cedar bench and definitely will apply your applications. Turned out beautiful! I already made a small bench for changing shoes in the house with cedar so looking forward to building one with a back for the patio out back! Thanks again!👍

Wow, great video, basically perfect video for what I need to do. Glad I procrastinated long enough with my material, as I've had it for nearly four years. Now I have a video with specific instructions to follow. Some others have mentioned additional support, but it seems like you've used it enough to demonstrate longevity. What was the degree angle you used and did you say you'd recommending tilting it back a little more? I have a bunch of 2" slabs I can work with, I like the idea with the pocket holes, I was gonna use lag bolts and such, but this method should be superior to what I was gonna do. Again, great video, I intend to search the products you recommend and basically follow your exact steps.
