Dudley, you are the bees knees. I don't have to call out a plumber (London) who charges £80 ph just to turn up, ie £100 inc VAT. then buggers off to the plumbers merchants to get a spare part which he should be carrying in his van, charges me another £100 for that trip, then half an hour fixing it, total cost £250. It drives me mad. You should get the queens award to industry

You were really ripped off there. The plumber I used asked me to send a picture of the old syphon to his mobile through Whatsapp, which I did. He went and got a Dudley Turbo 88 replacement for the non-Dudley one in my cistern before coming to me. All was done in half an hour. Total was £85 parts and labour. I would have liked to have mended it myself after watching instructions on KZbin but being an elderly lady I don't have quite the confidence I used to have to do jobs like this.

Here I am again with the same problem - the hollow float seems unable to lift the valve shut so I sealed the silly open ended float and still it is unable to lift the valve shut - I have reduced the pressure and flow to no avail. I get the idea of the valve is to equalise the pressure and close the valve but it is very problematic and i'm getting ready to change the whole Flusher if it continues.

Multi-flush - do you make a flush with the correct logic (like my old one) where the short flush you let go of the handle and for a longer flush you hold it down ? It's the style I've got and it's logical - so will be wanting the same again - when the time comes.

Wickes sell this as beingable to install without disconnecting the water or cistern clearly that is nonsense
@SteeeveO3 жыл бұрын
Think you'll find it says "serviced" without disconnecting water. The cistern must be emptied & isolated for initially fitting the unit - but from that point you can remove the blue part from inside the cistern to replace the plastic diaphragm (the part which ultimately fails) - without even turning the water off.

Before my plumber arrived (I'm an elderly lady without the confidence to do the job myself} I tied the ballcock up as high as it would go with string around a screwdriver that went across the top of the cistern. I emptied the water with a small container and sponged out the rest. By the time he arrived the cistern was dry and he changed the syphon without even turning off the water at the stopcock. Of course he had to be careful not to knock the screwdriver because the ballvalve would drop and water would start filling up. It saved him quite a bit of time.

My short flush has stopped performing, but it does do a long flush, so I suspect the diaphragm is to blame. Can I buy just a replacement diaphragm?
@asokabalage3 жыл бұрын
If the diaphragm is split both flush wouldn’t work. It’s the valve attached to rod of the diaphragm that falls back preventing air entry to break the siphoning. Blue flap supposed to hold the rubber washer underneath but it fails will give a full flush. Easy problem to solve.

Thanks for uploading the video, I didn't realise that these could be serviced. This saved me the hassle of removing the close coupled toilet in order to replace the syphon, instead I purchased the service kit from my local diy store, removed the syphon and replaced the diaphragm and seals as in the video/instructions and all works as new. It actually took longer to collect the service pack than replace the worn parts, all at a cost of £6. Thank you Thomas Dudley for making this all so easy!
@martinhellawell3 жыл бұрын
Which DIY store and what do you get in the replacement pack please?
@DA-ke1co4 жыл бұрын
The short flush stopped working on my Dudley 88 Siphon, so having watched this video, I bought a service pack containing a new diaphragm. The yellow snap pin jammed against the cistern and could not be removed, thereby preventing the main body from being lifted out. This meant the whole device had to be removed turning a 5 minute job into a 2 hour job. It would have been helpful if the video advised checking to see if there is room for the snap pin to be removed.

You spillover should be 20-32mm above water line, what if the distance from the spillover to water level is greater, will internal overflow still work? THANKS
@joshuabennett68904 жыл бұрын
Yes it will still work to a point. The greater the distance the more force required to start the flush (i.e. start the syphonic action). If it's too far then the flush may not start at all.
@csatterley4 жыл бұрын
If you can't get it any lower, perhaps try adjusting your refill mechanism to fill up the tank more before shutting off. The suggested height is to ensure that the flush mechanism has sufficient head to start the Syphon easily.

The easy servicing of these syphons seems to be a bit of a myth. Mine is slightly different from the one in the video, instead of the yelllow plastic widget, mine has a white pin which is also the pivot for the lifting mechanism. tinyurl.com/y2fz4ja5 This pin cannot be removed becausethe gap betweenthe syphon and the side of the cistern is too small to get a hand into. Even if it could be removed the syphon could not then be lifted out because the arm of the ball cock is in the way.
@terrywilliams67054 жыл бұрын
Same here, I can remove the yellow pin okay, but I will also need to remove the arm, handle( which appears to have welded itself to the shaft) and probably the inlet valve as well.
@petehiggins335 жыл бұрын
I have a brand new one of these but I can't get the short flush to work. It always gives a full flush. Holding the button down while it flushes definitely raises the short flush valve but it doesn't seem to let enough air in to break the syphon, I must have thick water or something.

I have a Thomas Dudley single flush TD212-A which has developed a problem. The first problem was that (and I don't know the correct names for these parts) within the green cap of the flushing contraption was a tiny rocket and flap which operated onto a diaphragm. The plastic clip here was broken but I have fixed that with a new drilled hole and wire, so it works. However to flush the loo, a single press of the button fails to properly flush. A one second press and the flush just stops. A ten second push keeps the flush working. So a short push just doesn't do the job any more. Nothing appears amiss. Help!
@bhm17128 жыл бұрын
Fitted on of these yesterday but it would not flush correctly. Randomly the water would not siphon out of the cistern properly and would take around 2 minutes to drain the cistern, but the next flush would work fine. Checked instructions and verified it was installed correctly and adjusted properly - it was. Also the unit did not come with a back nut or seal even though it was purchased still sealed in its cellophane shrink wrapping. Had to buy another cheap siphon to get the back nut and seal but ultimately ended up having to fit the cheap siphon anyway which worked correctly first time. Wasted £23 and can't get my money back. Humph..
