Thanks for this. I noticed an annoying drip from the valve but assumed the ballcock needed tightening. This didn't work so I sought online advice and now the problem is fixed, total cost £3.69 for new diaphragm.

hi tried this but I noticed the filter none of the material was on it was just the frame must have deteriorated. would that cause the cistern to never turn off the water? it's constantly filling.

A bit lie the instructions on the box - it is not clear which way in the rubber valve and its seating go - and the video dos not help.
