It’s ironic. The simplest solution is if you don’t have a trailer on the truck take the hitch off. I know everybody loves the convenience of always having it available. But if you don’t want the thing stolen, take it out of the receiver. Lock it inside the vehicle in a storage compartment or something. Where they can’t see it if they don’t see it they won’t know it’s there.

Not most but lots of crack peps tend to bring a tool bag. Just saying. I'm in oakland ca and they strip cars next to my camper all day. The put in over time hrs to get it done quick. When they are done they pull the car shells in the middle of the street and call the cops so the can take it away. That's how they get rid of their trash. They fill the empty cars full of trash. These dudes are very resourceful. So best of luck with the no wrench thing.

Could get the same effect with a grade 8 bolt. Use a magnet pin and hold nut inside the receiver through the back, thread though the inside nut then put 2 nuts on the other side and lock them down. Even tack the 2 nuts with weld. Probably never get it off.

You failed to point out the other feature of this locking pin, it doesn’t look to me like anyone could break off the lock end due to the way it inserts through the hole in the receiver. All of the other locking pins due just attach to the tip of the pin.

@@bizzle4819 You are right on most receivers but some allow it to ride up and slip off I noticed they sell a plate for those people having that receiver. I have a You Tube channel as well and I just uploaded a video on the same subject because my B&W hitch was stolen a few weeks ago. Although I agree that the pin you bought is an improvement over the standard locking hitch pin, all a thief needs is that wrench in his back pocket. If he walked over to your truck with a pipe to get the hitch off (which he probably got from his truck), how difficult would it be to also grab a wrench, or channel locks, or vise grips, etc. All he's gotta do is break the torque then he can twist it off quickly and quietly which would only add a few seconds. Yes, that pin is a better one than the standard locking pin but I came up with an even better solution - and you might agree. Please watch my 6 minute video showing what I did and shoot me a response to tell me what you think. We are both searching for a way to prevent this B&W hitch from being stolen (yes I've seen the pipe video too), but it's possible I've come up with the best solution yet. Type this in the KZbin search bar with the quotations: "B&W Hitch - Theft Proof Lock" Make sure it's the video by Mike Sanchez. Thanks

I'm protecting a $500 Küat bike rack. The cheap locking hitch pin they provided with the rack will last about 5 seconds against a pipe attack. The solution I came up with is to use a high quality, mini U-Lock as the hitch pin. These things are designed with dual deadbolts to withstand leverage attacks and at 13mm think, it would take a long set of bolt cutters and a lot of weight to cut. With the location of the pin being so far under the bumper, I'm not sure a thief could position bolt cutters to generate the force needed to cut through it. OnGuard 8013 Bulldog Mini U-Lock is a $30 solution.
@ChristianKrause89 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea two years later. I just bought myself a Küat bike rack myself and went to buy a lock just to have something decent at least. But I was looking for a better more robust permanent solution. Imma check this one out.
