All of what you mention would be eradicated if humankind obeyed and acted upon God's commandments and utilise his unending Love for us, we in turn responding to his eternal Love by utilising that love in relation to our fellow human beings - the Loving aspect of our free-will. If the major governments of the world suspended the rampant spending on arms and its technology, ergo better ways to kill and maim people JUST FOR A YEAR - and allowed that money to be invested in medicine and poverty etc. etc. there would NO such thing as say cancer, nor poverty! As The Great St Therese of Lisieux said, "We run our affairs on earth very badly". And don't we just! Because we all too often we run them to suit ourselves not our fellow man. In a nutshell just as in the world when you get closer to the King the more you enjoy a share in his power, the closer these Great Souls get to God the stronger their intercessory prayers for us and the world become! So then that said let us venture deeper . . . . . . true contemplation or meditation brings you closer to God, St John the Baptist lived in the desert in almost total isolation before commencing his ministry, fasting and denying himself constantly (as did other great prophets). Before Our Lord started his ministry he too retreated to the desert and there confronted satan; there in such isolation, there is nothing to do, but pray to him and contemplate him in the process developing utter dedication ergo to sum up there are little to NO distractions. Mount Carmel was home to hermits in the 12th Century and these Great Souls, these Carmelites exemplify that totally prayerful concept. The likes of you and I in the world are taken up by the world's worries . . . . . . . we start to say contemplate God thereby drawing closer to him, thinking, praying and one of the children say burst in, "Dad, Mum have you seen my football boots?" The phone goes, or the children's phones sound up, the TV blares away, everywhere you go there is constant noise, traffic etc etc.. Bickering and even out and out arguing and fighting surrounds us everywhere - since people are not in God's Peace. Sex and violence together with drug and alcohol abuse permeates everything, the TV, The internet, Cinema and the news, celebrity endorsed in so many cases. Depression, greed, avarice and suicide are rife; all containing an ongoing disastrous "education" of itself and our children are led into such. Then say concerns over what Trump is about to do, or the fact we need money to send the children to school and so on and so on will suddenly pop-up to distract the mind, all of this constant, never ending turmoil is fertile ground for satan, "How can there be a God with all this child abuse? Just look around you at the utter deprivation, abuse and killing how can there really be a God?" And many people's undernourished faith becomes wishy washy and weak. God, Our Lord is something to be dragged out at certain "acceptable" times, say the holidays or in the event of a disaster and sterile commentary such as "our prayers are with you" are stated, then he's parcelled away again . Of course satan has created this miasmatic, murderous mess and in the world the Good God gets the blame, atheists beating the drum unremittingly across the media, cinema and books and any weak faith duly succumbs..Thus all too often every which way we turn we are denied true contemplation and therefore connection to our Loving Father, ergo contemplation of the Divine Godhead becomes seriously problematic.God talks to us in silences.Given then that these Great Souls create their own desert and have sacrificed everything to the Lord in the process in compliance with his wishes, they can and often do draw very close to God indeed all the clutter we contend with is gone. The closer they draw, as with say St Therese of Lisieux, please do read her "Story Of A Soul" the more God will help us all. After St. Therese died for example the number of miracles in the world rose dramatically so many ascribed to her powerful intercession with the King of Kings, The Lord of Lords and God of all Gods with whom NOTHING is impossible, however, we must ASK of him and prayer is doing just that. As St Alphonsus so clearly stated, "Prayer is Love, Love is Prayer" The more you truly and FERVENTLY pray the more The Father will reveal himself to you and thus the more "power" you will have in your prayer - welcome to the Carmelite and contemplative ideal! . Lesa Fowers I used to be fascinated with nuns as well until I went to an all girls catholic school and experienced evil personified in the form of veiled women. I was traumatized but still had faith in them because it is unfair to judge an entire group over the sins of a few. Then in 1994 the genocide in Rwanda happened. Innocent people ( mostly Women and children ) , went to seek refuge in churches , monasteries and convents from being slaughtered by ethnic cleansing. They thought they were safe . They believed no one would kill them in the House of God. Only for the nuns and priests to lock them inside and go and call the killers and lead them to where the people were hiding. A million people were killed in 90 days. To this day I struggle with the veil.

There are too many horror story of children suffering at the hands of these women for me to believe this idealic bullshit. Life is not meant to be lived like this .
