I was raised in the convent by the Dominican Nuns. I cannot compare my life there with others who were raised in a "normal" home, but I can say that I was truly loved and cared for by them. I was educated by them and went on to receive my degree in medicine. I have never missed or wanted what I never had ... Parents. I consider myself lucky and very special to have been loved by these truly wonderful and caring people💕

Do not underestimate the academic achievements of these women. They are sent to the best catholic universities in Europe, they need to master a minimum of 3 languages, they have to finish an academic degree before final vow. They have to study philosophy, theology, and biblical studies like priest before admittance to the professorium. They are not enslaved, ignorant of brainwashed. Monastic people like these women saved our western civilization together with monks.

To all the people who can't understand why they want to stay away from the world, think about it like this: when you fall in love with someone, I bet you want to spend all your time with them. They are the centre of your life right? These nuns are in love with god. They want to talk to him. Be with him. Read works on him. His voice is clearest when they are in silent contemplation away from the world. They have a desire to know God, speak to him, to understand him. I think to a certain extent, most intorverts will be able to relate to the idea of being by yourself in the quietness. Some people enjoy it. It doesn't feel like a punishment.

A classmate of mine went to join the Carmelite sisters after we graduated from high school. I never really talked to her a lot but she was pleasant to hang around with whenever I got the chance. She was always so quiet and was never really quick to anger when something went wrong. Most of the time in our classes she would be reading a book quietly to herself while everyone else was busy being noisy. She was a very strong Catholic. She’s always wanted to become a nun especially a Carmelite one. I may not be a strong believer in God but I know that she’ll find true peace and happiness in the sisterhood. I also know that she’s praying for me in there. She sacrificed a normal life to live this one. I hope to someday see her again. 🙂❤️

My late wife was a Carmelite in her youth. It was a life devoted to grueling work and prayer, meditation and silence. After two years as a Novitiate, she declined her final vows. But as long as I knew her, my beloved wife embodied the teachings of the The Little Flower and was a blessing to all who knew her. She did not gossip, kept secrets, was loyal and in spite of failing health, always eager to help and work hard. She remains my only devotion to this day. Bless those that carry on and bless her eternal soul.

PS: These Carmelites are fortunate, they make noise! In my wife's time you were frowned upon if you made noise while eating or if you were working. No idle chatter and TV and Radio were strictly rationed as were newspapers or magazines. Scrubbing floors on your knees and cooking with huge pots starting right after prayers and before Dawn.

I'm not catholic, im an evangelical Christian, but I respect these womens way of life and I can understand the choice to live a life set apart from the world devoted to God. Many might call it boring or pointless but it's not, not when you know Jesus, what a blessing it would be to grow closer to God without having to battle with the world holding you back.

James N Because evangelicals are still human beings who naturally want partnership and companionship with another person. As an atheist who studies science, unless the person is asexual/aromantic, it's a natural human instinct to be social. That's why most don't choose the nun lifestyle.

I once went to school across the road from a Carmelite brotherhood building and I never thought of them. I used to sit early each morning in another building next to them (on the same side of the street) and never thought of them, but here I am nearing forty seven years of age (some thirty two years later) having failed at all I have turned my life towards and only now am I beginning to ask for guidance. I am thankful my ignorance and the ignorance of so many others (distracted by the mechanisms of society) does not have a negative effect upon such quiet and unimposing society, else they of commerce’s wheel with their ability to refuse us inclusion would mean an end to our inclusion in life’s path. Fellow Protestants, if you hate nuns and Catholics so much, why even watch this video? There are millions and millions of videos on KZbin, I'm sure there are a few out there that will fit nicely into your narrow world view. Or, perhaps on the other hand, you might consider the fact that "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved"--and I'm pretty sure that covers most sincere Catholics quite nicely. These are women who have devoted their lives to Christ; and whether or not you agree with their method, you have to admire their dedication and love for Him. Jesus said everyone would know His disciples by their love, and yet what I see in this comment section doesn't look at all like love in comparison to what these women are doing. I'm not calling you unsaved, but encouraging you to search your own heart and ask: who is behaving like the true Christian here?

Lets just pray for those people who curse and persecute us, Because we all knew the true Christianity is not just using a lots of words but it is by action accordingly.. Catholic beliefs represent of God's love, to be holy and saints as what the apostles of Jesus did, and i saw in this video having humbled heart and deeply in love to Jesus,in other term this is the way to remain in his love and to remain in HIM...Viva Kristo!🙏

But as with these women, they found passion in their faith and I think frankly it’s amazing how they found it in themselves to live this way in how I wish I could.

I think its beautiful that these women are dedicating their lives to the Lord. I really believe that only those who can't comprehend the spiritual significance of what they are doing are those who come and bash them and others. They are literally crucifying the flesh and emulating modesty, honesty, and humility. Someone apart of the carnal world wouldn't understand the things nuns do. Being a nun is definitely a calling and everyone chooses to dedicate their lives to the Lord differently. So be careful when you judge them because you will surely reap what you sow. God is the true judge of humanity.

Honestly, this looks like an extremely peaceful, lovely existence. No children, no debts, no stress. Just spend the entire day getting close to God without distraction:-) I think more parents should be saints.

Beautiful lifestyle. They are so joyful, and it is so evident of their personal love for Jesus, and for the world. I've heard it said many times by many people that the good of the world survives on the prayers of those in the contemplative life. We should pray for the vocations of the younger generations, that they might hear God's call and continue to fill these abbey walls with loving spirits.

Some really meanspirited comments here. This was a really lovely little film

I agree It is sad and distressing that so many have nothing but nastiness to spew on a otherwise beautiful and inspiring film.

Reading the comments makes me sick, If you all just respect them! They're in convent voluntarily as a sacrifice to show their love for Jesus. They are not in prison, they want the solitude for themselves. (E.g away from the sinful world, temptations etc) Anyway, even I say stuff here you won't get it if you don't have faith in our creator. But, if you would just respect this video and our catholic faith, please don't comment nasty stuff in here.

THANK YOU. I completely agree.

I don't have faith in your creator but I agree anyway. The hatred for these nuns isn't warranted.

"I am not Catholic but I am Christian"... Aren't Catholics Christians? What is making you hesitant to become a Catholic? Just curious. :)

Catholicism fascinates me, so many rituals and traditions that bring so much history to the whole religion. This was wonderful and charming, especially since gathered around having a good laugh. It's hard to have those moments nowadays with many being more in touch with technology than those around them.

My family and I have always asked the Carmelite Sisters in our neighbourhood to pray for certain intentions for the longest time. Their prayers never fail. ❤️
