At 25:52 isn't a jet, it is the fuel level control shut off , and at 25:54 isn't the idle jet, it is the fixed high speed jet.

I want to thank you. Especially, when walking to the shed and explaining that it is not an impossible task to work on a carbi. I did it today and cleaned it and put it all back together and the motor is working great now. 😊

cleaned the carb on my 9.9 johnson and got to the same point you did. any advice on how to gap the plugs? where I could find that information? I think I need new plugs myself. got this motor off marketplace.

I got a 90hp johnson, carbs clean, fuel clean (new), spark on all spark plugs, hoses with fuel (no leaks). But my engine bogs only on water, engine iddles on land w muffs on. Any suggestions, and sorry for the long paragraph.

I don't want to be a know it all but all this crap with the plugs, compression and timing should be way way down on the check list. 99% of all problems with outboards are fuel related. Mainly carburetor ones. You could have saved a lot of time and us being bored if you had gone straight there.

Was looking for typical charging voltage on an older Johnson 55 horse. Watched this. It’s ok but with a Merc of you disconnect the battery with the engine running chances are you will need a new rectifier if that’s not what was wrong to begin with. But if it’s not the rectifier then chances are it’s the stator or wiring in which case the battery was already effectively disconnected.

Thanks man. I just had my Nissan NS40c crap out on idle after performing flawlessly for a week on another lake. So frustrated but it starts everytime when I apply throttle the minute I take throttle off it dies. This is my next stop although carb looks different! Gives me the confidence to take the carb off the motor while the boats on the mooring bouy! 👍 Subscribed!

Hi, great video. Question though, how did you know the correct setting to reset the carb mixture ?

If I may, that air box is called a silencer box and its sole purpose is to muffle down the noise created by air being sucked in the carb. Removing a stucked plastic cover or bowl is best done by gently hitting them at an angle with a screwdriver handle. The vibrations will free them up ... prying will damage the mating surfaces. Finally, avoid getting those gaskets to come in contact with solvents (aka carb/brake cleaner, etc) as it deteriorates rubber and will ruin their sealing capabilities. Regards !

Glad I found this video. I’ve been chasing an issue with my old Chrysler 75hp outboard. Low to mid idle it’s like a rev limiter, it wants to go but can’t. then when you hit full throttle it takes off like a rocket! I have changed so many parts and gaskets there really isn’t anything left to do other than set mix screws and try your “spray” technique. Appreciate any extra thots on this. Thank you!

I will tell you this. It will never run well in that tub! Ever! In that tub your carb sucks up carbon monoxide causing it to flood like. No oxygen and more it runs gets worse. Cut the back out of tub and put a box fan in front blowing fresh air towards carb. I am 62 and realized this back when I was 16 fixing fishing boats. Still fixing them but now Im paid to do so just not tiny ones.

Good vedio except you called the main jet the ideal jet. The idel jet is on top. That's where that idel needed is. Every thing else is correct to fix idel circuit stopped up.

I don’t know about the garden hose issue and hurting the impeller. I couldn’t even use our water because our pressure was less than 20 psi. I brought the psi up to just enough that the engine will piss while running, up to 55 psi. I need all of that pressure for running my engine.

Great info Have the same motor, just got it, what do ya think the reason behind me having to choke it even after it has been ran and warmed up. It also does have an idling issue, so maybe when I rebuild it that will help not having to choke it to crank it every single time

What if you have a single coil that fires 2 cylinders, but has no spark on 1 cylinder? That's my problem, I bought a new coil and still no spark on top cylinder.

You seated that adjustment screw 3.5 turns in but then pulled it out only 3 turns? Also, make sure you guys watching look for rubber o-rings inside those needles and adjustment screws? Gotta pick them out with a pick and flashlight before cleaning and dumping into Chem-Dip...
