It's not a job that I would do. Looks awesome though. One of my buddies told me that they pay so low now, you can't even pay for the gas it takes.

How deep is that at slack tide?
@TeakspillerАй бұрын
@Hownotto523 There's a high slack and a low slack. When reading your chart, you should take note that the numbers shown are the lowest tide. In this particular instance, I wasn't looking at the sounder because I've been through here hundreds of times, and I know the path. There's plenty of water depth for a large vessel.

Ahhhhhh.... farewell to the old faithful 671's, the most efficient way of turning diesel into noise !! lol, - great motors, I had one in our Tug through a 509 Twin Disc on N55 injectors, never let us down once. Both boat and running gear were perfectly matched and she punched well above her weight. I will be interested to hear your take on the new Cummins. Always a good day when Teak Spiller posts!

What did barnacle Bob do? blow the engines up on ya the last time he worked your boat. Thinking he was running the Raider getting it up on a plane. Interesting they cut the bottom out I guess that was the easiest way. Better than chopping a hole in the houseworks.

Had the opportunity to head up the inside passage twice a month with the Canadian propane barge. Vancouver to Port McNeil in the 70’s. Lions gate tug & barge. Kathy K, formerly the Storm point,1912. Our skipper was quite adventurous and we took a different route almost every time depending on the tides. We did hole in the wall skookumchuck, even went through Surge narrows with a 4 foot over fall. The barge bumped the pinnacle on the way out. We were homeward running light. Back in the day before all the fancy navigation equipment. We had a big old wooden wheel,compass and radar..

@jorglange26664 ай бұрын
What did that run cost? A lot cheaper at slack tide.
@Teakspiller4 ай бұрын
I wasn't doing the invoices, but it was probably $600 an hour. Definitely not cheaper to wait around if the boat is capable of making the rapids. Time is money. This is something we did every few days. If a 20-man camp doesn't get a piece of equipment because they had to wait for tide, they lose a lot of money. Customers usually hired the Inlet Raider because it was capable of running the rapids at any time.

How many pickup trucks would this vessel hold? I need to get to the north end of Pitt Lake and do some exploration with my buddies.
@Teakspiller5 ай бұрын
Around 6 pick-ups. The Inlet Raider is based in Campbell River. The end of Pitt Lake Delivery, you'd probably be looking at around 24 hours to come down, do the job, and then get back to Campbell River.
@canyonoverland50035 ай бұрын
I've been searching how to barge or landing craft my pickup truck to the north end of Pitt Lake and KZbin recommends this video. Good call. Still searching for a company to do this. I know it'll be expensive so 2 - 3 buddies will split the cost.

If I am reading/ watching this correctly, is this where the flood tide meets the ebb kind of thing?
@Teakspiller6 ай бұрын
If they meet at the same power, that's slack tide. This is a flood tide rising faster than that little narrows can let into the Inlet. It causes rapids trying to equalize the height of the tide into the large basin going through a small opening.

Now there's a skipper who's clearly done this a million times. Ride the eddy, avoid the current til the last second, ready to catch the bow trying to swing downstream. Looks sketch to the uninitiated, but it's just another no drama Tuesday on board, just how you want it!
