So to remove the clips in removing the U-joints. Where do you want to place the screwdriver to avoid bending the C clip? Thanks.

AMAZING VIDEO! Thanks for sharing this is a great source of info on doing the seals. Do you have a video for the seals on the lower end? Question. Just bought a boat from a friend. 16 years old. I dont believe the impeller has ever been serviced or replaced. I just winterized it last weekend and when checking the stendrive oil it was milky. Both the drain plug seal and vent plug seal were garbage feel apart. I haven't drained the oil yet wanted to talk to friend about impeller first. My question. What would you do first in the circumstance? I was thinking of doing this: Will it be fine over winter? Drain and fill. Drain again and fill again. Replace the Drian and vent plug seals. Leave it for winter then remove the outdrive and do the impeller and inspect the rest. Do a pressure test after impeller changed. How would I isolate a leak if impeller or plug seals doesn't fix the issue? Just some soapy water? watch for bubbles? Anyone? Just need some advice here before freezing temps come. Thanks

I want to replace the gear oil seal and you show tapping it out from the top. Mine does not look like it will tap out through the bottom.

Really good tips on this video. My seal kit came with a couple of o-rings that wasn't addressed in the video. I didn't have the plastic or nylon rings mentioned in the last part of the video.

Make a pressure tester with a guage with a automatic ac freon refill.. use one with the big can and a trigger.... cut the end off the hose and use the fitting that comes with your gear lube pump.... don't get the freon that has sealer in it...

Hey buddy, My out drive lost it's oil and the gears ate each other. I am trying to rebuild it. I bought a new gear set but it is a different style than what came out of the drive. What is the process for shimming the gears when you have to start completely over with a new set? The housing and race all still appear to be ok because I shut it down immediately. Thank you very much.

without that spanner wrench you can'tremove it properly and you can't install itI always remove the upper bearing box when I'm doing U-jointsmuch easier to do and I also put a new front seal in you're right in there why not and you can look at all the parts close up after you clean them up to do a reassembly

Hey TC , loved the video! I have an old checkmate with a alfa1 gen 1 outdrive . Was winterizing it about a week ago and see gear oil leaking out of the weep hole of the lower unit that releases the water out . Alot of techs say just reseal the lower and your done . Please give me your thoughts 🙏

How do you know when bearings go bad? What kind of problems and symptoms will this bearing cause?
@NeverEnoughPyro403 жыл бұрын
A bad bearing will usually cause a humming or whining sound! If a bearing is going bad then most likely it will be putting pieces of metal in your drive fluid! If you are going to replace your bearings do not go to the Marina, You can get those bearings at a auto parts store! My OMC cobra was all original and when I disassembled the unit I noticed that it had Timken bearings, So I took the part numbers off of the bearings and the races and went to my supplier and purchased them through him! There is absolutely no difference when it comes to those bearings, And you will end up saving hundreds of dollars! Don’t believe me just call Timken they’ll tell you those bearings are the exact same! You can’t have the same part number and different parts, Do not try and replace anything else on your boat with parts purchased at an automotive store, Nothing else is interchangeable between automotive and marine!
