ADDS ALL THE WAY THROUGH!! I tried to listen to this to calm down but ended up worst from being bombarded with ads all the way through. I understand beginning and end but not in the middle. Do not recommend.

My apologies, but I have no control over when or where Google puts adverts in my videos. I'm not monetized.

This reminds me of a common practice in crochet, you have to make at least one mistake. I can’t remember the explanation - I think there’s some folklore or a more spiritual belief behind it - but it certainly helps stop the perfectionism!

Thank you so so so much for this!!! For me doing my projects sitting on the floor seems to help. I have more room to spread out the necessary stuff and also to move around while I sew. I know that depends on mobility but it works for me! I’d struggle to sit properly in a chair to save my life, I’m too hyperactive even as an adult 🤷🏼♀️

My mother taught me, ironing and prep work go hand in hand when sewing. Basting saves you from Jack the Ripper ( seam ripper) ! 😂

Hey, im new here, honestly listening to this has helped calm my mind. I have a hard time taking in positive affirmations as ive rarely received it in my life, im 26 now and my mind is in such turmoil. ive been going to therapy and it has helped me experience emotions and thoughts i haven't felt before or in a loooong time.... I haven't realized i cant really remember when i was truly happy.... I have alot of emotional baggage and its affecting my mind heavily.... Honestly im feeling lost a bit typing this.... 😅 I was always shut down i lose myself halfway when taking and just shut up, believe im losing the persons interest in just talking.... I knoe inhave people who like to listen to me, but i get scared.... And i feel that feeling of not really feeling worth a damn... I wasnt expecting to type thid out tonight 😅 but finding this video seems to do that. Thank you for making this 😊

I wouldn't have thought that I was interested in historical clothing but, as you spoke of Bernadette and Karolina, Nicole and V, Birchwood et al, I suddenly realized that I subscribe to all of those channels...weird huh? The Suvia channel on the other hand...that ties in nicely to the other experimental archaeology stuff and I've always known that was cool. Live and learn they say.

I like to go to kohl's, buy stuff off the clearance rack, dismantle and alter it to look like period clothing. I did this with 2 skirts, took the sheer lining off one skirt and paired it with the lining of another skirt, et voila....an edwardian looking floor length skirt ensemble.

loved the video! I got into historical costuming as my latest of many adhd induced hobbies, and I really love it. I was loving it, but I started getting stuck when it came to finishing projects and doing the more tedious or repetitive parts of sewing. I came across your video and wanted to say that your advice helped me, my squirrel brain is gonna start looking for more ways to make those parts of sewing more interesting. When I struggle to even pick up a needle or clear my desk so I can resume (or start) a project, I’m also going to try and remember to give myself a short timer and then do your sticky note method! I love sewing, but the ADHD brain sometimes makes it hard for me to do something I enjoy, especially if it’s something more complicated and time consuming, but your tips were great and I think they’ll be pretty helpful if I can remind myself of some of them next time I hit a rough patch with my adhd. Thank you again, love your videos! -Sage

Can I ask why you pin with the heads towards the project and not towards the outside? I find it much easier to remove my pins when they are the other way around. Im right handed, are you left handed? Maybe that is why? Just wondering because I see lots of influencers doing it your way.

Great question. I am sad to say there likely wasn’t any strategy but I probably did it without thinking. I am right handed but use my left hand a lot when sewing.

My area of interest is 1916 to 1919 and I take a lot of inspiration from my Czech great grandmother who came over to America at that time and set up in Czech Village in Cedar Rapids Iowa I have a lot of her photos and I am looking forward to remaking her wardrobe from when she was a new immigrant She was from the Bohemian region and part Romani. I've been trying to create a capsule wardrobe that is Great War combined with slavic old world with the babsuka practicallity of "I got chickens and six kids to feed " no nonsense 😂 Basically lots of above the ankle full skirts , tons of embroidery and hard wearing fabric in bright colors.

Just found you. And subscribed! Nice to see somebody my age and size proudly represented on KZbin! Can we talk about GoodWill?? Where I live (Chicago), they have jacked up their prices to a level where their used clothing costs as much-sometimes more-than what you’d pay at Target for new fast fashion. That wouldn’t be so bad, but it seems a lot of what GoodWill is selling is secondhand fast fashion that started out-at Target! I am headed for retirement as a single woman, and I know my income will take a hit, so I’m trying harder to economise. But-these secondhand stores! They get more free clothing than they can handle and they’re selling it at brand-new prices. Bummer!
@AltheaRizzo Жыл бұрын
Yes, it can be difficult to see ourselves represented in the KZbin space We chubby old women need to stick together. :) Yes, Goodwill has become much more expensive than in the past. It's also true that the rise of fast fashion means what is available is not very good quality. I tend to frequent the indie thrift shops and now I will have to alter most of what I buy.

great video! will definitely be trying this approach in curating some sort of cohesive capsule wardrobe, i've been trying for some time now haha. something that bothers me a little is that there is a real lack of masculine/trans/men making these sorts of guides / showing the process of curating capsule wardrobes (from what i've seen thus far; i'm aware of people like Pinsent Tailoring, be queer make stuff, Ash L G, Vincent Briggs, who are trans/masculine people and make historical clothing content, but there isn't as such any guide or whats the phrase, someones footsteps to follow in regard of how to begin curating a masculine or gender fluid wardrobe). As a trans masc nb person the struggle of most mens clothing styles being so mind numbingly boring, or there is not enough content on the funkier historical mens stuff is personally quite rough. I hope the sewing space opens up a bit more in the coming years!

Thank you! Sometimes, I just want to wear a shirt that looks somewhat historical with my black jeans or other pants or a modern skirt that looks like a petticoate aside from the fact that the hemline is higher than it would be historically.

I love mid century & medieval style clothing (I know, they don’t really go together lol). I finally filled out my core work wardrobe with modern items (though finding decent blouses that aren’t polyester is a pain) and am now going to get some 50s-ish dresses since they will blend in best. Not sure I will be able to get away with medieval styles at work, I think most items would be to “costumey” for my semi-professional environment. I really look forward to having some of the more costumey items for wearing during my personal time though. While I can sew I have never made clothes and am probably going to buy the first few items since I also don’t really have the time to attempt making them right now.

Love the encouragement! And your 6th century outfit, it's amazing. I think I'm closer to one option for historybounding than I realized. I already wear lolita fashion and have a capsule wardrobe for that. Lolita is somewhat rococo inspired, but I don't think it's always clearly connected to that aesthetic. (Nor does it have to be! EGL is a modern fashion in its own right with its own qualities and guidelines.) My idea is that I could wear one dress in particular (it has a square neckline, gorgeous sleeves, and it's covered in roses) with a pair of 18th century shoes, style my hair in an 18th century way, and add rouge and lip tint, and voila! Historybounding! I love the idea of bringing the Rococo influence that's already there to the foreground. And using something I already own and love in a new way.

Your channel is so helpful, it should be reaching more people, for real Shall I add *washing* the fabrics before all of these things? Sometimes I've noticed they kind of crump-up after washing (depends on the type of fabric, really), so thet way it'd be easier after ironing to know what exactly to do with cutting everything

A thing one should not underestimate for historybounding and capsule wardrobes is fabric choice. The same pattern can turn out so so differently depended on drape, color, print, whatever it has a sheen or not.... A pretty historical garment cut can look very modern when combined with a modern fabric like a jersey or a prints! On the other hand, if you find an old fashioned fabric, you will be able to create a historical feeling garment, despite having modernised the cut like with shortening the skirt, the siluete being off cause you decided against the understructure or whatever. The same pattern can make an plain everyday garment evening wear...... One can have a lot of fun with this, but it can also break a projects neck if one did not consider how fabric will effect the garments vibe. You can more or less make a whole wardrobe out of 2 or 3 patterns where you change small things like sleeve langth, shape of the neckline, fullness of the skirt..... making the bodice and skirt seperated pieces or not etc

I find it so facinating, how everyone has their own reasons and things they love about historical clothing. my thing for example are long and flowey skirts, tunicy and thin longsleeved blouses for I really like covering up my skin against the sun . . . . and leering looks. I care less about the timeframe of a specific cut of skirt, then it being a long flowey skirt that keeps me cool in the summer and warm in the winter. caftans prairie dresses . . . . someone else is all about victorian leg of mutton sleeves or crinnolin skirts as well as ruffles . . . looking at the various history bounding youtuber, they all have their very own style. Morgan with bold colors, clear lines and layered looks, Rachel with more experiemental, playfull and earther colors, the most practical bounding mariah with shortened skirts and capsel wardrobes, bernadette with those very elegant lines and very restricted color palette and insane attention for detail and so many others. It really pays to follow several of them and their different approchaes to synthesise out of that, what is the best for oneself . . . like we all would love to be bernadette, but in the end neither her style of dress nor approach to sewing are probably the right one for most of us and watching Rachel to just wing it or mariah deciding to just add a zipper can be a quite healthy counterbalance. we are allowed to do shortcuts and loving to look at something does not mean we also would love to wear it!!! taking inspiration is great, but in the end what you sew should be for you and be in your colors and what you are comfortable in, not what you fell in love with on someone else!!! There is no better or right way unless its the one you yourself get the most out of, whatever that is painstakingly handsew ungodly amounts of lace onto underwear no one but you will ever see,or have easely repacable elastic lacing ^^ for example, I love the look of nicoles crinnolin dress in the how hot is vitorian clothing vid from abby . . . . but taking up that much space would drive me insane, similar with bernadets marry poppins dress, gorgeous, but all that lace and white is way to much and delicate at the same time for me and it would give me anxiety to wear . . .
