I love James Mercantile, they also have a brick and mortar store in Liberty Mo. for locals or visitors who might want to stop in. (not sponsored and I don't work there) I live near there and I go there often, so I might be a bit biased! Jean, one of the proprietors and is a goldmine of information on sourcing fabrics, patterns, events and can literally answer any and all question about costuming. Thank you for this this of pattern companies, many of which I'd never heard of and will have to check them out!

Great ressources. you found some i did not know about and ive been doing historical for 10 years. i would not recommend reconstruction history... except if you are very good at redrafting stuff and adjusting. its all over the place i tried 4 of there patterns and its a mess.

Thank you! I spotted a couple of things I really need patterns for, and the video is a good introduction/taster overall. Love the Venus candle.

Period Patterns are varied but the grading on the sizes are inconsistent and their directions can be tricky. Laughing Moon patterns are really good, well researched and well laid out. They do have paper options as well as downloadable.

One caution about "Period Patterns" - their instructions are very complicated and not necessarily good for beginners - they require some expertise in sewing and understanding how patterns work. They are famous for being complicted and confusing. I have a bunch of their patterns and seldom use them because they are so confusing

I would like to warn beginning sewers out there that period patterns doesn't actually give you a pattern in the modern sense of the word they give you a packet with very general instructions on how to draft the garment they aren't actually patterns 😓 ( Unless they changed in the last 8 years)
