This exactly happened to us this month on our 2014 GMC 2500 HD Denali with about 60,000 miles. Mechanic told us this usually happens around 90-100k miles on truck.

New PB XLT FX4 owner here, and loving it. One issue that I'm hoping someone here may have some insight on or experience with. From time to time, when gently accelerating from a dead stop, I get a one or two second, muffled dragging/whirring noise from somewhere in the rear. The noise happens most frequently in Eco, but it also happens in Normal. I've neber heard it in Sport, and the noise can be altogether avoided with faster acceleration from the stop. I've posted in an F-150 forum with no luck and basically got ignored and laughed at at the dealer as the truck is new. If it's nothing, it's nothing, but I just want to find out. This is not an insignificant purchase for me; so, I want to educate myself and get ahead of any issues. I kept my last truck for over 20 years, and I mean to keep this one for as long as possible. Any insight would be appreciated.

Here in WA state we can charge at off-peak times for just under 10 cents per kwh. Most of my trips are under 50 miles per day, so this thing is going to cost me around 5 cents per mile. Right now, my 2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel costs me about $100 per month for daily driving (5000 miles per year not counting long multi-day trips). The RamCharter would cost me around $25 per month, or about 1/4th as much. You should have made a chart comparing all of these vehicles but for trips of 100 miles. I was thinking about picking up one of the last new 2023 Ecodiesels, because I love my 2015, and get about the same mileage as you do. I'm going to get a RamCharger instead, because I get all of the functionality of my Ecodiesel and all of the economy of my wife's 2023 Mustang Mach-E around town. This is going to kill the F-150 Lightning and the F-150 Hybrid with it's 1.5 kwh battery and is going to be the market leader in half-ton pickups. Plus, you can use the RamCharger as a backup generator for your house, for days and days. It's like a 6000 watt generator with a 20 to 34 gallon fuel tank.

The problem is 2 fold. A low litre V6 simply won’t provide the resistance necessary to grade brake the truck like a high compression V8 diesel, and the exhaust brake isn’t really a workable option on these small litre V6’s either. The trick is don’t come over the top of a hill with a big head of steam and in tow haul, let it do its thing. Sometimes you gotta get in that right lane and scrub 20mph before hitting a serious grade and you will find that between regen, “some engine braking” and the lower initial speed which leads to far less inertia to bleed off, you will handle the big long grades with relative ease. But I see too many guys in a hurry, even with the HD trucks crest a hill at 10 or 20mph over and roll straight into a long steep grade with our even a thought to managing inertia. Those are the kinds of guys that glaze their rotors in no time even with the diesel and exhaust brake. Managing your vehicle energy is key and it will work well.

Ford should get away from the cp4 pump all together and go to the S+S pump . I don't believe you when you say that there are very few 6.7 having cp4 failed. I recently had mine go out at 58,000 miles . Totally unexceptable , at the least ford should be installing the disaster kit to prevent contamination of the complete fuel system . $15,210.63 to get it back on the road with only 58,000 miles is irresponsible of Ford when there are bullet proof pumps that are available after market . I've said my pease but it doesn't make me any happier .😂

I love data. Thank you for breaking it down this way. What I take away from these calculations is that the Ram charger is more fuel and cost efficient if you take shorter trips. So, rather than doing 690 mile trips which makes the Ramcharger no better than the diesel F-150, if you do 400 mile trips, then the average cost per mile goes down assuming you start off with a full battery and use that whole 145 miles of ev range first. I think it's good to have the whole picture in mind. The Ramcharger may be heavier too which may require more frequent tire replacements. But the diesel has fuel filters, maybe a larger oil capacity (more expensive oil changes) and maybe a DEF system that requires supplemental fluids to be added. Might still be a wash. Still seems like the Ramcharger would be a good (maybe the best) do-it-all truck of the ones you compared.

You speak of compression not helping slow you down going downhill, are you speaking of an actual compression / exhaust brake installed? Or you mean the natural compression of the engine does not help slow you down either? I have a SR5 4Runner that I pull a 4,000 lb travel trailer with ...just came down and 8% grade I down shifted second & third used the brakes a few times and allowed the natural compression to hold me back.. you mean The F-150 does not have this natural compression?? There really isn't any rhyme or reason to it. Unfortunately GM trucks don't show you a DPF restriction level (like the new Super Duty does), so unless you have a diagnostic device or tuner plugged into your OBD2 port you really have no way to know how "full" your DPF is, and consequently, when the truck will try to run a regen. For the most part it depends on (a) your city/highway driving mix, and (b) how much you idle the truck. If you spent a lot of time in the city, or idle the truck a lot, the DPF will fill up quicker and it'll need to regen more often. BUT.... when a regen starts, you'll want to get onto the highway and drive as hard as possible until the regen is finished. And you definitely don't want to turn the truck off during a regen. Hope that helps!

Everything is great in a classroom setting but honestly in the real world testing the multiple variables in fuel it’s a poor design and the facts are Bosch will be replacing people’s engines or something like that after the lawsuit is over absolutely poor engineering from a logical standpoint!
