Great video! I'm an ex Fiat / Alfa Romeo employee and was taken to the roof of lingotto by them on a "busman's holiday" back in 2005, when I was lead to believe it wasn't open to the general public then. It certainly wasn't an art gallery or as pretty as it is now. The shopping centre was open then though, which in itself was a pretty cool place! On a side note, Fiat also have , or at least had, a secret test track in the suburbs of Turin for development testing. I won't say where. It's not pretty, or even state of the art, at least not back in 2005! But it did have all the fundamentals of a car breaking test track and was very interesting to visit during the same trip.👍🏼

This is one of the most interesting KZbin videos I have seen in a long time, and probably one of the best stories of 20th Century industry. The only question I have is what is that red & white buoy like thing ?

Two minutes into the video, and that's more than I ever knew. However before this video, I did happen to know of those wooden race tracks of that era

Wow. How many bad reasons can I think of for rooftop racetracks. In practical terms that is. In romantic terms, I love it!

To me, the factory building is a work of art. I love the fact that it’s coming up to 100 years old and still has a purpose and use to the community. Is the ultimate and recycling.

I wonder if the wickhams had just altered their building design to put another "house" on the other side of the tower that matched the watch businesses facade and made it a specialty shop, maybe they would have had more success? Just a curious thought, cause yeah it looks unbalanced

I've owned Fiats since 1978 and love them. Yes, the name FIAT really stands for Fix It Again Tony. But Fiats have always been ahead of the game. My 1978 Fiat has side intrusion bars in the doors to protect me in a side impact (introduced in 1974, second car in the World to have them). (Toyota fitted their first SIBs in 1999). Roll over protection that prevents deformation in 70mph roll overs. (I've tested that). Body construction that prevents passenger cage deformation in speeds up to 70mph, (I tested that too, 110kph backwards into a concave gravel bank; shortened the car 12" and yet the doors still opened). The fuse box has facility for electric windows and AC. (not fitted in Aussie cars but available since 1974). I have a lovely Art Deco 2 page ad from a French automobile magazine from 1926. I will see this track one day.
