The first car in the Shimakaze is definitely the best car, as you can see the driver and have great panoramic views. Am I right to assume that you choose trains journeys like this, for the train journey, and dont really care about the destination ? I also like trains, but for me, I want to combine it with a destination I want to visit. The best train journey I had so far, was on the Trans Siberian from Moscow to Vladivostok (with several stops on the way) in the middle of winter. That was of course before Putin became even crazier and decided to attack the Ukraine. If you like to read, I can highly recommend Paul Theroux, especially "The Great Railway Bazaar" (the trans sib) and "Riding the Iron Rooster" (train travelling in China). Not new books at all, but in my opinion, oldies but goldies ;--).

Yes you are right I enjoy train traveling itself and the destination is not a top priority for me.😄 Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendation! The Trans Siberian and China railway both are on my wishlist. It’s great to hear you’ve been on the Trans Siberian. It must be a unique and unforgettable journey!

@@tastewithinreach Thanks for your answers. I really enjoy travelling by train. My father also liked this a lot. And since he drownded 6 years ago, every time I take a train, I especially think of him (but honestly, I always think of him). If you have the opportunity, after the cruel and unnessary war, please go on the Trans Siberian. Its an experience I never want to miss. If you go well prepared, you should do it in winter. Walking on the frozen Baikal lake (and afterwards going into a simple sauna, and than having a simple but home cooked meal) is one of the best experiences ever.

*CORRECTION* The name of the ferry is actually "Ferry Fukuoka" not "Ferry Kyoto", they are sister ships though. Thanks @patreides123 for pointing out! ❤

Myself, I definitely prefer quality over quantity. The care taken in preparing the food in the Japanese Teppanyaki is great, as is the wish for perfect presentation, serving it with the right condiments etc. I will prefer this over the for me "over the top" Teppanyaki you got in the USA. But as you said, it depends on what you want. There is no wrong or right ;-). Thanks for sharing.
