Great work. We've just bought 40 acres in Idaho with 20 years of undergrowth and no thinning or pruning done. The forrester who came though to give us a plan was adamate about thinning and pruning being the best thing for the forrest as a whole. People dont realize that nature takes care of overgrown forrests by burning it down or with disease that kills the trees. You have to steward a forrest...and if you can have the satisfaction of being a good steward and still get to use a machine like that...Win Win!

I know sometimes it’s necessary but to see this tree to cut down like that is sort of disturbing…
@zachmatthews24523 жыл бұрын
In this situation it's required by law to cut the vegetation in retention ponds once a year. This one was about three years over due. I understand people don't like seeing trees cut but if California would cut some trees to make and maintain fire breaks they would save thousands of acres of trees from being burned by wildfires. People don't educate themselves on stuff like this and don't like seeing trees cut so they push laws that prevent ANY tree cutting which in turn allows wildfires to destroy hundreds of thousands of acres of beautiful forests, homes, property and costing some people their lives. People see something and instantly approve or disapprove of it before taking a small about of time to get the whole story or doing 2 minutes of research.

In this case you’d be better off with a wood chipper, I’m afraid you didn’t accomplish very much.
@zachmatthews24525 жыл бұрын
Highly doubt you could chip 26 oak trees and stumps then spread out all the chips evenly across an acre of land in a day. Smallest tree was 14 in. across biggest was 39 in. across. Not to mention a chipper able to handle trees and stumps that big would cost somewhere in the $400k range then you'd need a lowboy to move it. I guess you could always rent one but they only rent them by the week and then you're looking at $8k to $9k for that. Oh yeah and you still need another machine to load the trees into the chipper but hell if you got it spend it.

thanks for another "training" video Zach. I'm located in VA and have been doing a little bit of mulching for some of my fence customers. I'm not competitive at the moment cause I'm renting at $1,000.00 a day, but I am building my client base a little at a time. I'd really like to own a machine in the first quarter of 2018 and do more mulching and less fencing. thanks again for the training video. :-) Jack Pinnell, Heartwood Construction
@zachmatthews24526 жыл бұрын
Jack Pinnell These machines are such a great alternative to clearing under brush and small trees by hand or even with heavier equipment. Virtually no hand work and you're not disturbing the soil which prevents you from having to implement some form of erosion control. $1,000 a day rental doesn't leave much room for profit that's for sure. Just don't do what I see a lot of guys do when they first start out and charge a very low hourly rate just to get business because a lot of your business will come from friends of the people done work for in the past. I've seen more that a hand full of guys go out of business because they were only charging $85 to $100hr.
@jackpinnell32046 жыл бұрын

have you compared this to the Denis Cimaf mulcher? Any thoughts?
@zachmatthews24527 жыл бұрын
Flatted357 No I haven't had the opportunity to try a Cimaf head yet. I've heard they're great heads especially if you do a lot of bigger tree's. I priced one for my excavator and it was roughly $10k more than the fecon but that's with the tilt option which you can't get with a fecon. I also find it odd that it's almost impossible to find a used Cimaf head but used fecon heads are all over the internet. Cimaf said it because they're so good nobody gets rid of them but I doubt that's the reason.
