This is great, very good video. I am new to sharing, I have just been using cheap hand shears out of the box that I sharpen and ive always wondered about how you set yours up. I live in Sweden and find it hard to find places to learn your style of sharing. Do you know of any fellow handshearers in Sweden? Also I am wondering what blade shears to get, could you recommend some?? Cant wait for part 2 ocf you doing up your shears.

I'm sorry I don't know of any blade shearers in Sweden to help. I only know one in Denmark who would be the closest. Shear Sharp NZ is the best place to get done up shears. You can message them on Facebook to order shears.

WTF⁉️😳 ARE YOU USING CUTTER'S LIKE THAT WHEN YOU'D GET SO MUCH MORE DONE BY USING THE ELECTRIC SHEARER'S OTHERS USE, WHICH DOESN'T CUT THEIR SKIN IF YOU CUT INTO IT ACCIDENTALLY. ESPECIALLY WHEN AROUND THE EYE'S, EARS , HEAD AND MALE GROINS ETC. THE WAY YOUR DOING IT, IS REALLY TIME CONSUMING. BUT, TO EACH HIS OWN.❤🤟💋♊
@allantheshearer
@allantheshearer Ай бұрын
This is a merino. Blade shears like I am using actually cut the skin on merinos much less than machine shears as they roll over the skin better. Also on merinos it usually takes around 3min to shear with machine shears and 4min with blade shears so not a huge difference in time either. Blade shearing also leaves a little more wool on the sheep which is better for the sheep.

I have shorn a few sheep but it's not getting any better. I think my blade is not good as it takes me literally an hour to sheer one sheep, with a lot of lower back pain due to difficulty of sheering. So I have a few questions: 1. do different brand produce different quality blades? 2. I see different sizes of blades, does size matter? 3. which blades are you using? They seem to cut much better than mine, even though they are sharpened well.
@allantheshearer
@allantheshearer Ай бұрын
Different brands produce different shapes of blades. Generally it's easier to learn with slightly smaller shears around 6-6.5 inch blade, these are normally more versatile as well. In the video I'm using TUS 7.25 inch shears which are great for shearing quickly once confident. I'd recommend getting some 6.5 inch shears from Shear Sharp NZ

I literally just sheared a sheep this morning had no issues with these. Super smooth cut everytime. I'm also brand new to manual shears and have only done it a couple times but the ones with the bow never cut this good to me.
@allantheshearer
@allantheshearer 2 ай бұрын
Yes the ones with the bow are useless out of the box but once set properly are much better for commercial shearing. Jakotis are great for if you only do a few occasionally.
