Don't have a window shelf sadly but I think i can just create two platform both sides of the window just to support the weight of the acrylic pane and just seal all 4 side facing the window with the window clip. Love the idea for how to put on pressure. I needed more room for my workspace and the only available room is on the side facing a factory blasting constant hums. really thankful I stumbled on this!

If it's any comfort, I've had that Fishman preamp on several very expensive and definitely non-Chinese guitars in the past and they ended up rattling on all of them, so if anything that's authentically made, haha.

At least the school board hasn't ruined Barnum Hall or the Greek Theatre and some of the buildings are still recognizable. Otherwise it looks like post-70s penitentiary architecture.

Hey, you might want to tag this as "storm windows" - I think that would attract a lot more views. I was actually looking for something similar, not so much for noise but for weatherproofing since I live in New York. I'm retired, so I didn’t want anything permanent or that would block the view. Plus, I wanted to be able to open the window to let in fresh air because it's super drafty here. In fall and winter, even if the room is at 70°F, the draft makes it feel like it's in the 50s, even with layers on. Thanks for the info!

Also should the two pieces of plexiglass be slightly apart or together? Edit I re-watched the video you bought a single piece for two different windows ! next weekend I'll be heading to homedepot to pick up some plexiglass! My fan blocks out most of the noise but with the plexi glass I'm hoping it will block enough as to where I'm not bothered by the traffic most of the time.

I’m planning to try this to keep sound in so I don’t bother my neighbors while drumming on my e-kit. The kit isn’t too loud but the window is definitely the weak point for leaking sound.

If you try it, let us know how it goes! You could do a similar sound experiment as I did in my video, except the recording device would be placed outside the window of course. :)

I'm not sure. I know that Indow only does inserts of 1/8" and 1/4", so that makes me think a jump to 1/2" might not do too much. It would also be much heavier. Let us know how it goes!

I ordered one in Mar 24 after watching your video and some others. It said on the website solid Rosewood on back and side plus electronic pickup for $529 plus tax. The only thing I did was replaced original string with Martin silk and steel strings. It sounds full, clear and bright with and w/o pickup. The setup is almost perfect with bone nut and bridge. It becomes my favorite guitar over my ~$800 range guitars.

I bought 4 Chinese made acoustic guitars from AliExpress. 2 jumbos ( j200, guild F15 types), a 12-strings Martin, a Taylor. They were made according to the specs of these famous name brands. They surprised the shit out of me. They sound really good, they are nicely made. I did play those original versions at music stores. Definitely they sound a little different from the original ones. I can’t afford to pay $5k for jumbo Gibson or Taylor’s. I definitely enjoy playing these Chinese instruments. They are not bad at all.

I just did this. “Made it sound like they were barking outside my unit, not inside” is a pretty good way to sum it up. I live in Brooklyn and my window faces one of the stations for the J train. Everytime the train came to the station I thought it was inside my room. The glass definitely reduced the noise but doesn’t make it whisper quiet. Helpful overall. Cost was ~$200 for everything I don’t have the ledge that you have. Instead, I got these heavy duty metal clips and fastened some on the bottom side and rest the glass on top of them. Thank you for the video!

To be honoust.. all the guitars sound very thin.. absolutely no bass or is it the microphone that you were using? More important for me personally is to play the F-chord It is really hard hahaha!! And I play since 1974! That's why I prefer Nylon strings and classic guitar. They have more volume, midtone and even more bass!

Mike, I just heard you say 0.55 seconds into this video that the Martin DM model was solid mahogany on the "front". That is NOT CORRECT as that "sound board" top is solid Sitka spruce. I have a Martin DM myself and the spruce grain runs down through the sound hole. That is how you can tell the difference between a laminate top and a solid spruce top. I also have a few more expensive C.F. Martin (D-42) and Guild (F-50R & F-512) acoustic guitars as I have enjoyed playing guitar for over 52 years now. And to @cast390 you have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about!

I can hear it from my laptop great! Your invention made a huge difference. I love how you sealed it too Brilliant, Mike. Subscribed. I will share the video. After losing so much income and damage to health, I’m finally close to getting a house. So, I’m saving this method both to share and in case there is any noise problem. Seriously, you are genius for figuring this out. I’ve watched and read a lot to solve problem here. YOU figured it out, right down to including the air gap, using outside the casing. I don’t know if you have seen it, but a window specialist on KZbin shows creating a box frame around the window, And from there, he had plexiglass with rubber around it custom made. Yours is simpler, much more affordable, doesn’t require the box frame for depth of air space and creates a tight seal with removable plexiglass! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT. I am now armed and ready when I move My neighbors in side by side duplex dog train and bang with kids upstairs day and night as well as the neighborhood basketball gang 15-20ft from my single pane windows, refusing to have any regard or balance. Morning to night, inside or out. They teach their children to be that disrespectful and intrusive of others space. Air space is one’s home. We share it! I’ll be getting a cheap house, discounted. There is still the possibility of undue noise. I’m ready now.

Sometimes dog owners just can’t do the right thing by their neighbours . I would set that noise device you have off at 1am every morning until they come over and ask what the hell your doing . Then I would proceed to tell them your intending to keep it up until they shut their f#$*/=$ dogs up . If they can irritate you then you can irritate them .
