My Lime green (Lina mint) 1970 LC X-U1 didn't have twin exhaust muffler and it had a rattly opel gearbox and the disc's on the front kept warping, The dress rims where about $40 each and were a prized item to be stolen. I used to keep them in the boot. You had to be careful where you parked due to thief. I use to take the rotor button out when parking in the city. STILL LOVED THAT CAR Cost $3150 brand new.Thinking back the 1st X-U1 1970 colours were Yellow Dolly-Plum Dinger-Lina Mint- Rally Red. The 1971 LC X-U1 had more colours Keep It Original.

For some reason I always preferred the LC over the LJ, it was one of my favourite cars growing up. I remember one of dad's friends buying a purple XA GT fastback and then his son came home in a gunmetal LC XU1.. Although they're both awesome, I'll have the unrestored one please❤

I had a 1971 homologated (Bathurst) LC XU1 back in 1976/7, sold it to a guy in Devonport Tassie. It was gold, a particular gold (not Cameo) colour that I had never seen before on a Torana.

Wow what a find! ...... You have a very nice collection Absolutely leave the original car as is. You could restore to improve, however the value is that it is in an unmolested state.

there great cas in there own right , what shits me about them is IMO its a cortina/centura competitor not a falcon/kingswood/valiant rival , all articles have the xu1 (160hp triple stromberg 3ltr) as the competitor to the charger (302hp triple webber 4.3ltr) triple carbed 6 is the only comparable link , it like comparing a hsv and hyundai getz because they both have fuel injection

Gday mate, Ford fella here. My first ever (fast car ride) was in 1980 in my cousin’s LJ GTR XU1. I was 9 at that time and I still have vivid memories of how fast he had that thing going! 14 flat was pretty respectable in the day for a six and it was in great condition! Beautiful work sir Post edit! Just got to the 6:40 odd mark… that’s the colour!!! More metallic from memory 👍

Nice cars but having driven them often back in the day I would personally prefer my HK 327. The Torana XU-1 was not as easy to live with to my mind. A mate had one and had the opposite view so it depends. These days I would take a Falcon GTHO any Phase will do. 4 doors man. Back in 1980 you couldn't give them away. These days they are GOLD. Amazing.

I have the brother of your car 71 GTR XU1 that has been sitting in my shed since 1999. Mine is Yellow Dolly and I bought it from the original owner in 1995. I paid $5000 and it is still stock standard (but it looks a bit sad now). People say I should restore it but I kind of like it as old time capsule. 78,000miles

I thought that lc’s were gtr’s with the 161s or the 186 with the triple carbs and the lj’s were the gtr xu1 with the 202 and triple carbs. Shit,,,, ya learn something new every day. I’ve had a couple of weir holdens that I’ve always regretted selling. First was an ej with a factory fitted 149 red motor. Checked vic roads database and it was first registered with a 149. Next was a hq kingswood, baby blue with white roof and blue interior, 202 column auto. Very early 71. The strange thing about it was it was complianced as a hg. The tag said 7-71 hg sedan. The chassis number on the drivers side chassis rail was 2246m, and 2246m was on the compliance plate. Factory screw up. Was cool as hell tho. Next was hq statesman that was again an early 71. Body number was 498. Was probably made in the first week or 2 of hq production. I miss that car. Next weird one was a ht premier. Was a vedoro green/ white roof car. It was bodied as a 6 cylinder. It also had a full black brougham interior in it that looked far too correct for someone to have just slapped it in at a later date. The woodgrain brougham glove box lid had a premier badge on it instead of a brougham one. I pulled the badge off and there were no excess holes for the longer brougham badge. Had the brougham kick panels, courtesy lights, the steering wheel, the dash, the door trims, the lot! I cot curious at that point and started to question the 308 badges on the front guards. Another quick check with vicroads yielded me a 308h engine number for its First registration in 1970. This car I’m almost certain didn’t leave the factory like that, but was more than likely all fitted up at the dealership as something special for the dealer himself or used as an example of how you could Option up your Holden. This makes sense as in the past I’ve also seen a 1 owner hk kingswood that was a cream colour, but was a dealer fitted 307 and maroon brougham interior job. Car manufacturers and dealers certainly did some not commonly known shit back in the day

The LC GTR XU1 had 186HP block I believe, where the LJ GTR XU1 had a 202HP block. I believe they ran a Steel crankshaft not a cast crankshaft.

LC X-U1 was the original Model 1970-1971 . LJ X-U1 1972-1973. (the GTR was a cheaper version in the LC range with a 161 motor twin carby with stripes and no ducktail)

Looking forward to seeing your Falcon GT's walk around mate. Stunning collection if I can say that. Well done. Absolutely love your GTR's mate, I grew up with them my Father having one in Bathurst. It was always a childhood dream of mine to have one. Now 54 that hasn't happened buy am a Ford fan and have a beatiful Silver Fox GT Rep which still working on to be true as possible given my Father has guided me throughout my life to admire and look after motoring history as he does still to this day. Another question on your door cards to the door interior, was there never a plastic seal cover against the frame of the inside of the door to stop the dust etc before you put the door card on ? Falcons have/ had this from off the production floor, I just curious mate if the Torana had them aswell and you missed them out ? Also on the Toranas was the bonnet hinges chrome ? or the same color as the body ? LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MATE. Bring them on and do a video of all your Falcons PLEASE mate. Can I ask also please mate where do I buy those clear car covers from ?

Such gorgeous little cars, my first car in the late 90's was a one owner LC sedan with a 2600 and 65000 miles from factory I bought from my grandfather and have regretted selling since 2000. The LC/LJ had their quirks, but they always felt so comfortable and easy to drive, no wonder they were such a good car for both circuit racing and rallying.
