Personally, I find the Whaley house oddly…heartwarming? Like, this family was very unhappy in life, but the stories of the children and dog playing, music and laughter being heard, and the beds being slept in, it sounds like they’re happy together in death.

Your content makes me so very happy. I'm glad you got to see Longlegs. It's number one on my list of Halloween funzies. There's nothing wrong with being a shark, by the way. Sharks are very cool. They are the wolves of the sea and wolves rule. Thank you for being alive and putting out this wonderful wonderful Victorian horror podcast. I remember my New York story... speaking of NY and "burned toast." I had friend who's parents were going to buy an old Victorian funeral parlor in upstate NY. I went to said house. I'm a devoted child of an Mórrígan, and you could not have forced me in that place. I have found that upstate NY is just country roads dotted with haunted Victorian houses. Beautiful country.

@@WildCosy The Woman in Black is one of my favorite comfort movies. It's strange that there aren't really a lot of really good Victorian Horror movies. There's Dracula, of course, Crimson Peak, From Hell, Interview with the Vampire, The Raven... Not a big fan of some of these, but some folks really like them - I think Dorian Gray (2009) was fun, and also found Stonehearst Asylum to be fun as well.

@@myvictoriannightmare I really wish there was a lot more movies like The Woman In Black. I feel like it just hits every category perfectly for me for the ideal scary movie. Paranormal, Victorian style ghost, Creepy House, Fog, Marsh, Jump scares, Creepy toys and it's not overdone, the ghost looks properly scary. I don't like it when the ghost isn't really scary looking, like in The Nun, the eyes ruin it for me. I agree that it's strange there aren't more of them, they're so perfectly suited to being ultimately creepy, and I love creepy.

Spooky little snacks are delicious! Here for my weekly dose of blood, definitely. It’s mind blowing how extreme some of these stories are. The popular idea of Victorian folk being proper and meek is such tosh, lol. I love the phrase “the fair sleepwalker”. This is brilliant.🙌

The reason you can't prove insanity in court is because, even if you prove the person in question was suffering from a break in reality, such in schizophrenia, you by law are held accountable, not responsible, both are separate things. Even if you proved that the person did not know right from wrong they separate the difference between the two.

Oh interesting! I’ve been to a few Jewish funerals, but none of them were held within a few hours of the individual dying. Is this a German Jewish tradition, or a particular sect? I’ll have to do more research. I might start a “someone who knows more than me said…” section on the podcast so I can add those details I was unaware of on the following episodes 🤔

I have to add…this subject is very personal to me too. My mother was born with a port wine birthmark covering the right side of her face. In another time her life would have been horrible. The birthmark, which I always found beautiful, faded to a smaller area over time, and it was shaped like a map of Britain. But if she’d been born in Victorian times, life would not have been good. So many people must have experienced these kinds of lives.

Oooh I jumped here! You are one of the most welcome people in my whole day. This will be a real journey! Freak shows and so many other weird and upsetting things…an inexplicably bananas time in history. I get what you mean about costumed people. There’s something about the hiding of their real self, and it can be overwhelmingly false with untrustworthy overtones. I shrink from people like that. Looking forward to having a look at The Terror! Something I found that you might like, a film called Miss Morrison’s Ghosts. It’s on KZbin, not the best pictorial quality but it’s a true story about two academic women who travelled to Versailles and experienced something very bizarre. Then, it follows their struggle to be believed. It’s quite amazing. This is an excellent video. I can’t help thinking about Joseph Merrick. So very heartbreaking. What a time. I love every cobwebby moment of it!

Great episode. You didn't miss much of Death Tunnel. I"ve watch the whole thing and it was horrible movie. The only thing that I found interesting created by the man behind the movie is the documentary Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium. That had some interesting historical information in it. Overall I found this a highly interesting topic ever since I came across some articles in a spiritual magazine in the Netherland when I was a teenager, and the ouija board fascinating me. I love seeing them in horror movies. I can understand your scepticism towards mediums. It hard finding a true medium when there so many people doing cold readings. But there are a few ways to tell if someone is a actually medium. -The won't ask for money or fame for what they do. -the open tell you that something they simply can't connect with a spirit, no matter how hard they try. There are spirits that just don't want to chat. -They'll tell you that they won't be a 100% accurate. Some things are just not for us to know or tell. -they won't sugarcoat things they get during a session/reading to make you come back. They tell it as it is. -the want as little information on whoever or whatever they contacting. So if you every do want to visiting a medium, tarot reader, ect, you know what you might need to look for.

Oo! I might check out that documentary! And honestly, I don't disbelieve all mediums. I certainly believe some folks have "the gift." Plenty of my family members have some very spooky abilities, specifically when it comes to contact with folks within the family, so I'm not a complete sceptic. I'm also too addicted to ghost hunting medium shows to be a total disbeliever ;)

@@myvictoriannightmare haha, you sound a lot like me. I love ghost haunting shows as well. I enjoy most of them. The list I gave of things to watch for us one I use myself to find a medium I might like to get a reading from. I'm a medium myself for most of my adult life, but sometimes I might have a problem myself, and well I rather not have my own knowledge cloud things, so I go to someone else to get a answer. Beside Spooked, maybe Children of the Grave might be something your interested in. It's been years since I watched it, but I remember enjoying this doc as well. The feminine one about the woman with the gun had me laughing out loud. 🤣 The one about the 11 yrs old girl who unlived herself supposedly over not getting her way, I have my doubts that was the "real" reason. As for the one about a woman not getting protection from men also made me laugh as I don't see too much of that in today's generation either.

@@donovangray4246 Totally. The “reasons” for women’s and girl’s behavior in this publication (written entirely by men) are often very suspect, I agree. I always try to see if I can find any factual information about them on the periphery , but sometimes that information is lost to time. And I also think it’s funny how lost it is on the writer of the women voting article that the only people women need protection from… are men - which didn’t happen much then or now, that’s for sure.

My Grandmother always said “never be afraid of the dead, it’s the living who can hurt you.” Not so sure about having that level of cool but I’ve only had positive experiences too. That said, I don’t meddle with the ouija board and I don’t try to contact anyone in seances. I chat to my mum and gran, but I’m happy to wait to hear from them. Edit this includes my first cat!
