Hi MVN! Really enjoying the great content and superb narration of your podcasts. I predict a huge growth of subscribers in coming years. As a music historian, I've produced my own programmes on New Zealand National Radio, both concerning the Tchaikovsky-Brahms bromance, and the former's circumstances of death, which appear to be purely incidental and not brought on by depression in the slightest. In fact he was on top of the world at that time, having worked out all his angst in the 6th Symphony's pages, and was preparing to take it on his next tour. A shame that he was struck down so suddenly - as there were many more symphonies, suites, and ballets yet for him to write.

I would LOVE a link to any of those programs! I spent the first half of my life studying classical orchestration, theory, composition and opera. The only history of the composers, themselves, that I learned, however, was in context to the music I was studying. I’ve spent a lot more time studying the biographies of composers I love in the last few years, but my knowledge is limited when it comes to many composers lives past the early classical period. Please drop a link!

@@myvictoriannightmare I'm so glad you're interested in my radio programmes! Thanks so much. I'll add links to another comment in a moment - but sending this first comment in case KZbin withholds the next comment because of the links.

In some parts of Romania they still practice paying money for mourners. The more money you give the more they would mourn the dead. They cry and lament turning the scene into a very scary one. I have been to some when I was little. Will never forget.

My grandmother survived typhoid fever while he was in a prison camp in Siberia at the end of world war 2. Most don’t. The Victorians were definitely odd ducks.
