I have to say, I've got the same 2002 and red but it has never broke down, left me stranded or hauled. Routine maintenance is all it's ever had. I bought it new and will never do away with it. I've been riding for 44 years and don't plan on ever stopping. Even when I have a broke ankle I still rode 😂. Good looking one you got

Modern equivalent would be the Z900RS. In terms of weight and performance, it's no comparison. But the ZL sure is an aesthetically beautiful machine in its own right.

@exothermal.sprocket what do you mean no comparison 🙃The ZL900 Eliminator has the GPZ900R engine, it produces 105 horsepower, the Z900RS has 95 Horsepower. I've rode both bikes alot, love them both and there isn't much difference in performance, only in riding position. Have you even rode both of these bikes yourself? kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWjWiJyAqdCVa8kfeature=shared

@@thedragon2299 I've owned the Z900 which is the better tuned version of the 948cc engine, and weighed 468 pounds. Tuned it made 125 hp at the wheel and was smooth as butter. I know the RS is retuned and down about 12 to 15 hp on the Z900. Just in sheer weight and power, brakes, fuel injection, handing poise, the new machines are better. I went looking for the ZL at a whim due to reminiscing about bikes that existed when I was a kid.

Rings do have a gap for air to seep past
@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 Күн бұрын
@user-vt3on9ck6f rings have an end gap for expansion, not to let air seep past. If they didn't have a gap, they would expand beyond bore size and become tight in the cylinder, causing catastrophic engine failure. You need to stop listening to the internet seriously. In this video, it would be referring to air leaking between the rings and cylinder, which is caused by worn out of shape rings. Thanks for watching 🐉

Sounds like the carbs are out of sync. I Have an 86 that i bought new. Still have it. At one point i kept it in the house for 2-3 years no fuel. When i decided to run it again it was rough and needed choke. It was the diaphragms that stiffened, which at the time i didn't know. After about 2 years of running it very little, the diaphragms loosened up and ran fine. To Sync these carbs you need a vacuum gauge setup that gauges all 4 carbs, 1 is your base which you adjust the others to. The engine will sound like this one when 1 or more carbs are out of sync with others making it run on the richer carbs and the other carbs lagging, which makes it smoke because the choke is choking the rich carbs and the lean carbs. This is what it sounds like to me. I hope this helps.

@ConsortiumBlaster hey thanks appreciate the help. You have learned a couple things over the years I see. I actually own a Vintage Motorcycles Restoration shop, I'm doing this stuff everyday and I do infact have several sync gauges, however this was alittle more than out if sync, this customer had just got screwed bad at another shop for $3500. The motor and carbs were supposedly rebuilt, but what I found would say otherwise, oh they did some work alright but it was bad workmanship. In this video, one cylinder didn't even have any compression and the carbs were actually overflowing. You will see the conclusion, or at least more on this bike coming soon. After I tore the engine down and found the shotty work, the customer decided not to put another $3500 dollars into it, and picked up the bike, after a week of thinking, he called me back and set up an appointment to bring it back for a proper rebuild. It should be here in a couple weeks or less. So check back for those videos coming soon. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲!

@thedragon2299 8 күн бұрын
@sekaf4125 Glad you are on the mend and back on 2 wheels. It sounds like the carbs need a good thorough cleaning. Not only cleaning the jets, but cleaning the passage ways in the carb bodies themselves. I usually take the carb cleaner with the little straw and squirt through the passages to ensure it comes out the other side. Running rough at lower rpm is usually the pilot jet, and the slide needles usually have some residue on them disrupting flow. Either way a thorough cleaning and new kits will do wonders for the bike. Make sure you install new spark plugs too. 🐉🐲

@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 8 күн бұрын
@GarrettHood-k9x becareful because if you spray it near the bowl vent of the carburetor it will raise rpm, many mistake this as a problem with intake. You have to be very direct when checking for intake leaks, you can't just randomly spray around a carburetor. 🐲

@ExileTheKnightsOfMaltaNow first thing first, you don't have to worry, you will never hurt a VFR with too much rpm, they read line at 11,500rpm. It has a rev limiter built in, so you can rev it as high as you want, they are bullet proof. They can run all day at 11,500. Most people can't even ride one of these at 11,500 rpm because they are so powerful at that rpm no matter what gear you are in. I still run this same set up as in this video, it's all around better, mostly because you use the lower speeds way more than you use topend, mine will still hit 140+ with this set up, you don't need to be there very often, but you do accelerate all the time, so you spend most of the bikes time accelerating, as opposed to top speed if that makes sense. My VFR has transformed quite a bit since this video, I totally customized it. Check out the playlist on this bike here: kzbin.info/aero/PLICWLX3xQIRPse1CE7i6iDCtlniyAO7Ln&feature=shared

I take it it's normal to be able to cruise at lower speeds in the upper gears... surprised me in contrast to my BMW K75 would lug at those low speeds in an upper gear..... so what you're saying is you still not having any trouble keeping up on the highway? I don't have a tachometer on this particular bike so I'm a little concerned about redlining but I suppose it probably isn't likely

@thedragon2299
@thedragon2299 24 күн бұрын
@markmenard6961 the large main line goes from petcock on tank to side of carburetor with the biggest port, the other hoses are just vents and the one on bottom of carb is just a drain hose. On the vents they are usually just ran up higher somewhere out of the way so they don't get full of water or mud. So there is really only 1 that you need to hook up to make it run, and that is the main fuel line. It will run with out any of the other lines.

@ehrenerdbeere6731 you need to "read the spark plug". That will tell you what is going on with the tuning. It may just be a carburetor situation. Search how to read spark plugs. I have ridden and owned a few wings but I will never get rid of my 86 Cosmo Black Goldwing Interstate that I bought new , it the best in my opinion ... its not loaded up with junk that fails with age , its relatively light at 700 pounds so its a great everyday bike , holds a ton of shit in the bags , and the flat 4 is just a sweetie ... Great gas mileage , 7500 redline ( it really moves out in the higher rpms and sounds crazy good doing it , and when the air suspension is set just right , rides so so good , and the nimbleness of this big bike is uncanny not to mention the way they kept the weight low makes this bike handle like no other at low speed . It loves the twisties ( you can be aggressive with this bike and lean it way over ) and it shows just right amount of engine to make it look sexy . Yep .. its my favorite goldwing of all and i will never part with it ... The newer wings are just to laden with weight . technology , and everything is covered up with plastic for my liking and a lot harder to service and repair ... There great touring bikes for the open road , better for two up riding (I ride solo ) but way more of a handful for everyday bike duties that I need ... There just too big ... I like the middle weight of the GL1200 , best bike I ever owned and travel long distance all the time with it and it has never broke down in the 37 years I have owned it ... Happy Motorcycling

I have a nighthawk project bike that I went thru , first off , it doesnst sound like its hitting on all cylinders , I had a problem with the one plastic spark plug cap and it would smoke just like that and i too thought is was a internal engine problem at first , that thing is so smooth even running on three cylinders that it will fool you into thinkin its running on all 4 but its not ... replaced all 4 caps and its fine , no more smoke . Just start it up and touch the pipes without burning yourself to see if its hitting on all 4 . The carbs sound out of sync and clogged up and they gotta be right , re clean all the carbs and replace all the rubber gasket and orings , bench sync the carbs and make sure the intake rubbers are not leaking , a little carb spray around the intakes while its running will tell you if its leaking there . make sure you heat them up with a heat gun to remove /install the carbs , they are super rigid and this helps soften them up . Another note , all these older bikes run like crap with modern gas and honda leaned them out real good so they will not run right on stock jetting anymore . You have to up the pilot jet 3 sizes and put a washer under the needle on the carb slide on all cylinders to get you in the ballpark to fine tune it ... All the older hondas are like this , my 86 goldwing ... same thing . they wont run right with modern gas . Symptoms are hesitation from lower rpms , running on partial choke till they are completely warmed up to idle right , crappy low end response , stumbling ... Hope this helps

@jeffreybodine2897 the bike had just left another shop where the customer spent over $3,000 having new topend and carbs rebuilt. I tore it down and found bad workmanship. They left alot of carbon on the valves and some carbon broke off and was stuck in the valve seat, not allowing the valve to close. More on this bike soon, because when I found the problems, customer didn't want to spend anymore money on it and he picked it up in peices. Now that he has time to think about it he wants to bring it back and have me rebuild it right. Thanks for watching 🐲 and commenting. I do this everyday, seen it all. I have the exact bike year and all in the same condition. I put a 50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid. And still not in frozen. It was sitting for 20 years. Thank you for this. Appreciate you

First-time viewer here, just wanted to remark on how clean your engine is...in fact, it's so clean that I'd be surprised if that engine hadn't had a rebuild since you stated that the bike has over 36k miles on it. It looks brand new. I had a '73 CB750 in my youth and decided to recapture some of that feeling when I retired and found myself a real sweet, low-mile (less than 10k) '79 CB750 that needed some work due to being parked for so long and have been enjoying the ride for the past five years. Thanks for the video, I'm getting ready to check my clearances (shoulda done it already) and was just doing prelim research when I came across it. Hopefully mine will be in specs, too.

Hey, nice video! Do love the beach! Are you still running MMO in the gas? Would love to see another compression test, see if it's still going up. I'm still running 2oz. in every fill up. I havent tested my CB750 again. Keep having too much gas in the tank, don't want to siphon it out. Quite heavy with gas.

@petev.9357 I run MMO every once in awhile now, but yeah I would like to see what that compression is too, but I don't expect it to go too much higher, we'll see. Thanks again for watching 🐲

Certainly looked like a great ride & a nice time. Any updates on the 84 Honda Nighthawk 700S?

@andrewfarrant198 it was a good ride, thanks. Will be more on the Nighthawk 700s soon, I tore it down and found a few problem and the customer decided not to spend the money to get it right, picked it up, then weeks later asked if he could bring it back, so once I get a couple bikes done it's coming back.

Vintage? That looks newer/ish to me. Vintage to me is only the Goldwings made in Japan. 76-79 I believe.

Fork springs were a little mushy and the rear shock Shows is difficult to change oil. Peened. I went Fox Twin clinker. Love your patience.
