Thanks I'm interested in maybe buying a MKH 50. I'd appreciate knowing (in depth) how it compares to its 'cousin' the MKH 8050. That's arguably similar, a tad cheaper, but smaller too. Size has an attraction for travel, field use and if I went that way then possibly a matched pair could be of interest for both dialogue an outdoor field capture of SFX. Also easier to hand-boom. That all said I don't really understand the practical subtleties between them. Arguably both the 50 and 8050 are overkill for my needs, as I'm just an amateur hobbyist, but I appreciate quality and can afford it. I already own a Sennheiser MKH 416 and MKE 600 as well as many other, lesser mikes from Audio Technica, Sony and others. I'm obviously an audio nut as I have owned nerdy esoteric audiophile hi-fi kit for years. My field recorders have been upgraded to a Sound Devices MixPre 6ii and a couple of others. Lavs are now Cos-11Ds among a raft of pro grade transmission kit from Sony and Deity. I probably have too much audio, photography/vidography and lighting kit - more than anyone (non earning in video, sound work) could reasonably ever need. Heck, I could probably supply kit for a small production company. I do occasionally collaborate with other enthusiastic amateurs on 'passion' film projects, but primarily I'm a super enthusiastic stills photographer (amateur) who has won many awards. I'd like to do more videography, sound and/or lighting work (at a high level) on collaborative projects. My main issues are limited time, moderate skill (bar stills) but not so much the funds (albeit my wife thinks my kit obsession is getting unreasonable - quantity and bulk, rather than cost). That's one reason why I'm slowly selling my lesser kit and upgrading to higher level kit - because I'm naturally obsessive and can afford it. Yet, in my 'saner moments, I know the limiting factor is me, my skill level and finding the time to learn and practice and better use the excellent kit I already own.

Hi! Big fan of Viviana Skin from a long time. I'm constantly re-stocking in all colors they put out. I have a question though: sometimes I get some "clicky" sounds from small sticky glue movements. Nothing serious as they can be fully removed with RX, but I wonder if anyone had the same issue and has a workaround. Thx! And really cool straightforward video! :)
@jeffreyhackmedia23 күн бұрын
The clicks sound could be a number of things: - Loose connection from the microphone cable. - Lav mic is hitting up against something near it. - There's a lot more strain happening, which can cause pop and possible clicks from the microphone wire.
@BrunoBoselli23 күн бұрын
Thx, Jeffrey! But I'm super careful w the cable strains, plugs being firmly locked, keeping them loose enough after the loop n everything. Seems to come from it being slightly "unglued" from the skin or fabric. I'll double check that, though and stick it as firmly as possible next time. Honestly, how comfortable is the speaker with being wired changes things quite a bit. Had to mic a catholic 65y old lady last week and it was awkward to say the least. 😂

Are you able to jam TimeCode from Zoom F6 to your Theos?
@jeffreyhackmedia23 күн бұрын
I am when working with clients who have a camera that can take timecode. However, I don't think either of my personal cameras have the capability of syncing timecode with an external device. I'm still doing research on that.
@jeffreyhackmedia23 күн бұрын
I would suggest investing into Deity's TC-Box, though, as that's specifically designed for timecode purposes.
@JoATTech23 күн бұрын
@@jeffreyhackmedia Zoom F6 has TCXO (temperature compensated crystal oscilator), and generates timecode via 3.5 jack port. I managed to sync my cameras and jam my Theos transmiters via cable. Sure TC-1 is more convenient, but it's additional $200 ... and anoter device to charge via USB. Now I will stay with syncing time with Zoom F6. Paid like $5 for the cables to keep in sync my both cameras.
@JoATTech23 күн бұрын
@@jeffreyhackmedia Any camera with 3.5 jack mic port can take timecode as audio track. You can then convert it to time code while importing to Davinci Resolve or using free Tentacle Sync app.

I have a camera with no audio port on it, can the mic record audio while not attached to the camera, and then I can just edit the video and audio to line up later?
@jeffreyhackmedia23 күн бұрын
The receiver of your wireless device must be able to connect to your camera in order for the camera to take in what's being recorded. Otherwise, you are recording audio using the camera's built-in microphone.

Good video, but is there any good reason to record in 24-bit linear instead of 32-bit float? Zoom F6 is capable of 32-bit float and it saves so much headache of audio clipping as it has so much higher dynamic range so we don't have to bother or worry as much for setting the gain properly. My Zoom F3 is only capable of recording 32-bit float anyway, it won't let me use 24-bit linear.
@jeffreyhackmediaАй бұрын
Some clients I work with prefer 24-bit audio. This can be due to the file size when transferring media via SD card or the internet. I've learned that although 32-bit is great for its dynamic range and consistency, you really only want to use it when you know a recording might be incredibly loud. Hope that answers your question 😊

It's not a "J Cut" A "J Cut" (like the name implies) is a cut in the audio, it may be softened by a small dissolve but the point is that it makes the incoming audio start before the vision cut - it pre-empts the cut. An "L Cut" is the opposite. The outgoing audio continues beyond the video cut. "J Cuts" are used to pre-empt scene changes and ease the narrative transition.
