Recently upgraded to an R8 but I'm keeping the M50 as a backup. I can use it as a second angle in 4k when i can manually focus it.

@@jeffreyhackmedia so far so good. The battery is terrible but I power externally with a dummy battery via npf adapter. It's working out well. Great video btw. Keep up the good work.

Jeffrey, it seems that you like the M50. I now have a point and shoot but I need a camera with an audio input and I'm looking at the M50 not the R50. The only problem I see is the video time limit of 30 min. So, what would you suggest, stop the recording and start another one? How 'bout the battery? Thanks.

Thanks for your comment! I personally have not touched the R50 yet, so I can't provide my opinion on it. But I do still enjoy using my M50. Yes, the max recording time is unfortunately 30 minutes, and you will have to prep to quickly stop and start the recording again. In the way of batteries, I have 3 rechargeable batteries that I use for the M50. Another battery includes an AC adapter for plugging into the wall when recording for long periods of time.

I have the R6mII and the R7 but for some odd reason I have this interest in this camera. I think it's the size and a little bit of Canon nostalgia. I keep looking for a deal on one used, but then there's the lens investment on a dead system...Sigh. either way, great video on 5 reasons it's still a good camera for creators.

If this camera gets a "great" denomination (cf. title), I don't know which one to give to those some 99% cameras that are actually better... headache coming ! It just, but hardly, makes the cut for vlogging, but you can't expect much from it. For a good smartphone can do as good if not better in most situations, when operated properly with a good third-party application. Plus, you can't charge it via USB... a shame for a camera "designed" for vlogging ! I'd love to see those users bring along their dedicated charger everywhere... then what if you forget it ? It is fully made of plastic, with the exception of the baïonet. Well, anyone interested in checking accuracy and precision of lens mount (because it's plastic on the lens side, for most), or dials and buttons operation, some years from now ? The kit lens is a shame, with huge vignetting and mad distortions. And, for a vlogging camera you must love this f/3.5 aperture because it switches to a slower one as soon as you rotate the zoom ring just a notch. And reaches 6.3 when zoomed all the way : LOL. 😈 It has no mechanical (sensor) stabilization, when most competitors from other brands do have this. Is it so hard for Canon to offer this in 2023, or is the brand keeping one foot in the 1980s when it just feels like it ? When you hit "record" in video mode, all settings are locked. Is that the signature of a camera made for vlogging ? And the last stab, for the last pain : this absolutely horrible EF-M lens-mount. The available range of lenses has the width of a mouse hole. There are five (!!!) specific lenses, if I still remember properly. But Canon was nice enough to develop an adapter, available at an extra cost ! But not all EF lenses can be used... that's Canon in all its glory. Unless you prefer to use other brands. But here, again, Canon sprays pepper in the eyes of the photographers by allowing only a very few models from third-party manufaturers. Even with great effort, I don't think we can find more than 15 lenses to choose from, all brands considered. It was released in 2018, and was a disappointment right from the start. I tried it for half an hour, and gave it back immediately. When one wants to create images, almost any other camera or smartphone can do better than this... "thing".

Sorry to hear about your experience with the camera. Although you have valid points about the camera's weak points, I still think it has the potential to perform better than the average smartphone. The camera is the tool, but lighting (as stated in the video) is one of the key components to a great picture or video.
