12:20 or so, it should have been mentioned that Mew2King beat ZeRo??? It is more impressive than during other time periods that ZeRo lost is what I mean. It wasn’t during the time of injury, and it was actually just a straight up good fight when you watch the gameplay. Well, good for sm4sh standards, but nonetheless, my point stands. His ranking was more from him going back to Melee and paying less attention. It’s important to distinguish that he didn’t prove his skill as much, not that he wasn’t as good overall.

13:31 i felt that sigh in my heart. For me, when wobbling was at it's peak with tournaments being morphed and even decided by it, it ruined this game competitively. For me, this was the dark ages. I lost all interest in the game until logic and reason prevailed and it was banned. It was satisfying watching all the losers abusing the mechanic drop off into obscurity, as they couldnt exploit their way to the top anymore. That being said, there are some current rising Ice Climber mains leaning on other grab combos that are pretty sick to watch. I hope we get to see some of them rise to the top

When I was following melee, I always considered m2k as an s minus ranked player. He was kind of the gatekeeper to the absolute top-level. Always in top 8 serving as a barricade for the guys trying to break through to the top, while still capable of breaking out and beating the other top players but not very consistently. Some players would be able to beat Mango or Leffen here and there, but would get smothered by m2k. If they couldn't get by him, there's no way they would get through Armada and Hbox. There were a few lower ranked players that did well against his style and also the occasional lolm2k tourney, but for the most part he was always there to smack aspiring players back down to earth. I always loved seeing m2k do well the most out of any player, and any mango vs m2k set was guaranteed to be a banger.

Ngl don't love the comparison to sports just because how longevity can work. HBox and Mang0 could theoretically play for like 10 more years, which in sports just can't really be done Another thing is, who has the most Major wins as of 2024? Like how do I just plainly look up that number? MJ is considered the GOAT because he has the most MVPs and FMVPs in the modern era. Only Kareem has more MVPs with one more, but 4 fewer FMVPs. It wasn't just that Michael did all that in a pretty relatively short time, it's that he plainly has the most accolades in the modern era. If LeBron had 8 rings with 8 FMVPs in 25 years playing, a lot of ppl may consider him the GOAT... Also this needs to be said, MJ/Brady played on teams. Melee is more like Tennis than anything. This whole debate needs to be split up. This isn't Sports where everyone has a 15-20 year window. GOAT run of dominance can be one thing, but tbh, to me the GOAT overall is whoever has most Majors. If you retire early, I'm not gonna give benefit of the doubt. Idk how you'd fare in today's competition.

There is a reason Mang0 is more beloved than Armada. Mang0 has a more dynamic style, more fun, more risky. Armada had a more cookiecutter style, kind of boring most of the time. I feel like to be considered the GOAT you should also look at the playstyle.

Longevity gives the GOAT status to Mang0. Armada’s career was cut short. Mang0 just won another major recently too (tipped off). I think Armada is/was/has the potential to be the better player but longevity really is his downfall here

Fact is, Ken was head and shoulders way better than anyone for an extremely long time in his era - where the internet was still young and information wasn't so easily accessible. Armada is the Goat. Mango is obviously great and played for a long long time through all the different eras of melee, but he's never really been dominant. Hbox has had stretches of dominance, Zain has also. Armada has a positive record by some margin on every great player of the day. People question whether Armada be dominant today and it's like... of course he would. I'd say the level of competition now is where Armada was at 8 years ago - but Armada constantly improves in anything he does. Just look at his speed running. If you wanna say Zain be on top or IBDW or whatever sure. But it's not like Armada wouldn't be in the top rankings. You can't imagine that say if Armada hadn't retired his ability to compete would have fallen off a sheer cliff.
