Clydesdales are as American as Apple Pie. Even though they are a Scottish breed.

When I was a graduate student at Texas A&M ('75-'76) a Budweiser Clydesdale team came to our area. They actually spent the night on campus in the horse barn and exercised in the horse arena. We are a historical agricultural school. I think that's all been moved to the West Campus across Wellborn Road (and the SP railroad tracks). Parson's Mounted Calvary has their horse barn over there as well. They are impressive, and they had a good crowd watching them hitch up the horses for their trip into Bryan to a shopping center for a promotional.

These Horses are the Super stars and they come first, their servants (the Humans) muck out the trucks and clean up. Just looking at the Harness hanging in closets tugged at my heart. This is how all Horses should be treated.

A lot of people know this: there are more than one set of Clydesdales. There are many set of Clydesdales throughout the country. The company has stables so people throughout the country can see these beautiful horses in person. Those horses are treated just like the ones in St. Louis.

I simply can't look at them anymore without profound sadness at what was the past and now the present with the company they represent. They are relegated to the past and now we have something that doesn't represent out values as America.

So sad we don’t have these commercials anymore.
