I'm about to start out as a personal trainer and have just watched all your videos and taken all the tips I can. Your videos are full of useful information, well made and have more useful than some books I've read on starting as PT. Thanks a lot!

I love that you talk about the basics. As someone who learned fitness in prison, and while there helped others get fit... I can personally attest to this. Simply "mastering" the fundamentals/basics will get you in amazing shape... just via the journey of learning the mechanics and form without even worrying about "how much weight youre putting up"

Thank you. Very Good Content. Do you train clients for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or an hour?
@DaveMacLeanPT

A trial session where you've prospected the gym floor and convinced someone to do an on the spot PT session with you to sample your services would be somewhere between 30-45 min. All other PT sessions would be 60 min sessions. I strongly oppose 30 min PT sessions for regular paying clients. I attempted it in my business back in 2012 and in 2015 and both times it was a disaster. I only sell 60 min sessions. My full assessment/evaluation session is 90 min, but this is an in-depth session where I do 6 different assessments plus rapport building, goal setting, etc.

Doing goblets is so much better than the barbell, just sucks you can't really go too heavy
@DaveMacLeanPT
@DaveMacLeanPT 4 ай бұрын
Personally I prefer to front squat with a barbell over any other squat variation. The goblet squat at best should be performed with a vertical dumbbell and is used to teach proper squat mechanics and posture. There will always be a limiting factor with a goblet squat which will be your ability to hold the weight vs. what your legs can tolerate for load. An elite goal is a 1/2 bodyweight goblet squat for 25 reps, but past that, it's time to move to the barbell. This video is quite old and I've come a long way from training with KBs for squats. Nevertheless, thanks for your comment. Train hard!

Wow thanks so much for your kind words. I know your comment is several months past but I am going through my channel (I've been MIA for a few years) and it's nice to get so much respect and appreciation. Ottawa is a good city for PT. Good sized population, good stable income base due to a few public sector industries, lots of gyms and PT studios. I wish you well in your career change!

I am trying to become a personal trainer for part time work while I go to college. I don’t need to work full time while I go to school and working part time in a job I actually care about would be nice while I go to school. Bonus points if I can run my own personal training business so I can get experience running my own business.

Early morning is a different type of client I think. More type A and tend to be professionals with families. They also tend to have more money.
@DaveMacLeanPT
@DaveMacLeanPT Жыл бұрын
Definitely, although, I've had many Type A/CEO/entrepreneur clients who train in off hours between 10am-12pm or 1-3pm. They have the ability to call the shots with their schedules and prefer training when the gym or studio is not packed full of clients. Wealthiest client I ever trained (when I lived in Calgary AB) trained at 2pm.

Hey, could you define a paired set for me, I'm quite confused it seems very similar to supersets?
@DaveMacLeanPT
@DaveMacLeanPT Жыл бұрын
Modified supersets or paired sets are just standard supersets with rest in between the two exercises. In the case of training a new client, and using the full body workout routine, you would structure your clients training like this: A1: lower body exercise Rest 60-90s A2: upper body exercise Rest 60-90s Perform 3-4 sets of entire A-series, 10-12 reps, then move onto B-series.

Great video, coincidence, one of the reasons I'm looking to get into this profession is my experience overcoming back pain from an injury thanks to a physical therapist that provided his own exercises. That allowed me to get back to normal without meds, which I have horrible side effects from almost all of. I gained an appreciation for our bodies own ability to heal itself if it is taught the right way.

@@DaveMacLeanPT Great stuff, thanks. I looked at the web site briefly and will save this for later on and for continuing ed. Most recently I've gotten into foot to core training which has helped my back along with knees ankles and feet. So I hope to incorporate that into my niche. Focusing on older clients, balance, human movement and strengthening. EBFAglobal and Barefoot Strong are my resource mostly for this with training cert. to add to my knowledge base.
