Lovely bus trip. A few nice streets here and there. I remember taking a bus from North Shields ferry terminal (then Color Line) to Whitley Bay back in 1997. I may taken that bus through some of these streets back then. It was not a regular service, but arranged for for travellers from the ferry to local hotels. I think the bus company was called Armstrong something…..

Strange vessel. It looks like a hybrid between a car/passenger ferry and ro-ro/car ferry with no passengers.

Thanks for your comment. I see this is now operating between Rotterdam and Tilbury, but with a capacity of only 112 passengers, I think it is mainly used for freight.

@@Trond_travels Yes ! When I first came to Whitley Bay, I remember travelling to South Shields on the small ferry,which also carried cars. The Tyne Tunnel was the built in the late1960s, just a few km upstream which then meant there was no need for a car carrying ferry.

Do you get off at North Shields metro station when filming ships on the Tyne? Or Tynemouth?
@brianmorrison9168Ай бұрын
Today I actually went in the car, as I was a bit late .. I forgot all about the ship, which I actually noticed yesterday, when picking up my daughter from her Amsterdam trip. Normally, I would just cycle there, it saves looking for a carpark, or walking from the station. The nearest station for the Fish Quay is North Shields, but I sometimes film from Tynemouth headland, so Tynemouth would then be nearer.

@@Trond_travels Yes, the Number 1 bus leaves from just outside 'The Brewery' pub, near where you stayed and will take you to the North Shields ferry landing .. it's then a 5 minute walk to the Fish Quay. Thank you for your comment .. yes, Whitley Bay isn't too bad a place to live. I have been a bit lazy regarding videos, burt I did travel 3 hours away by train last week to film the Whitby Goth festival. When I arrived there is was pouring down and there wasn't a goth in sight. The conductor of the train wouldn't let me take the earlier train back to Newcastle, so I thought I was going to have to spend 3 hours waiting for my train (advance purchase train tickets are ONLY valid on the exact time stated on the ticket .. unless the conductor is nice 😁) Luckily Whitby Bus Station is next to the railway station and there was a bus waiting .. after a quick search on Google Maps, I hopped on, first the bus to Middlesbrough, then another to Newcastle. This also took about 3 hours, but at least with my free bus pass, it didn't cost me anything.
