Considering it was completed on 15th February 1998, it has taken me 9,618 days to actually visit it, even though I only live 15 miles (25km) away. It's not that exciting !

I haven't filmed any ships for several months, but a friend told me about the Mein Schiff arriving, so i thought I would film her leaving, which I did. To my surprise, this vessel followed her out, so it was a great opportunity for a second video.

Certainly! I believe this is the largest cruise ship that has entered the River Tyne.

Glad it was useful .. I've just had to spend another £12 as I lost my travel pass. I don't know why you have to pay again. As my daughter said .. if you lose your bank card, they don't remove all the money in the account.

Yes, they were pretty good .. my only concern is that they weren't wearing a uniform .. surely a decent band should look all the same ..only two of them had Tribo T-shirts. Doesn't really look very professional

Thank you for your comment .. yes, Whitley Bay isn't too bad a place to live. I have been a bit lazy regarding videos, burt I did travel 3 hours away by train last week to film the Whitby Goth festival. When I arrived there is was pouring down and there wasn't a goth in sight. The conductor of the train wouldn't let me take the earlier train back to Newcastle, so I thought I was going to have to spend 3 hours waiting for my train (advance purchase train tickets are ONLY valid on the exact time stated on the ticket .. unless the conductor is nice 😁) Luckily Whitby Bus Station is next to the railway station and there was a bus waiting .. after a quick search on Google Maps, I hopped on, first the bus to Middlesbrough, then another to Newcastle. This also took about 3 hours, but at least with my free bus pass, it didn't cost me anything.

@@brianmorrison9168 Whitby is another place I haven't visited yet. It's not the easiest place to visit. I mean, like you mentioned, 3 hours with bus or train. I had to travel with plane first and then bus or train, so it would take half a day. But it's possible, I will do it some day :) I've been to Torquay, same thing.

I went to Whitby from Newcastle last Sunday to film it again .. unfortunately though, it was pouring down when i arrived and there was nobody about, so I returned home .. taking 3 hour journey on the bus, as my train ticket was only valid on the 15:50 train and I wasn't going to wait around for over 3 hours for that, having arrived at 12:30. Yes, received thanks I was a wee bit tired when I got home, but didn't want to fail my 70,000 step challenge. Started on 1st January and haven't failed once. This week I was a bit lazy early on, hence the big walk today. Now I have a free bus pass, I may film some ships from the south side of the Tyne for a change. If it hadn't been so windy tonight I might have gone to see the ship leaving this evening.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with your comment, but I don't have access to the quayside. A year or too ago a Tyne based tug boat captain even commented on on eof my videos .. At the time, I was thinking .. just a pity he didn't offer me a tug boat ride .. that would have been a great filming opportunity.

Yes it was cold, but not as cold as at Whitley Bay, just a few days later and less than 4 miles away. Why I really don't know.

Thanks for your comment. It was certainly a good turnout. I've filmed the New Year's Day swim at Whitley Bay a couple of times, but I always forgot about this one in Tynemouth, so when I saw it mentioned somewhere, I marked it on my calendar. I actually think there are more folk here than at W/Bay

They take place twice a year. Each lasts 3 days and in 2024 they start 26th April and 1st November... See you there !

@@brianmorrison9168 True true, no gatekeeping.......its just changed so much since my first Whitby back in '95 with Children on Stun and Suspiria. Dont remember it being so costume, we all just showed up in whatever we were stood up in, but maybe it was more about the bands back then?!

Thank you for your comment. Sorry I don't have any photographs, but I shall look into it. You may have noticed, I haven't filmed any ships for a while .. mainly because nearly all the ones that come in now I have filmed before (of course not all) I was a bit annoyed though (at myself) the other day. Having been away for a few days with my wife and not looking on the Port of Tyne website, I was driving along the Whitley Bay seafront and noticed a naval vessel leaving the Tyne. On getting home i checked online and there had in fact been 4 such vesels in the Tyne, two from the Netherlands, one from Belgium and a British one too. That was 4 film opportunities missed 😥 No doubt I'll be back at North Shields one of these days .. just that it's more fun (and warmer too) in the summer🍦🍦🍦🍦

Thank you for your comment. I am actually annoyed at myself .. 4 Navy ships have been in the Tyne and are leaving today. I didn't know and just happened to spot one off the coast while i was on and about now. Two Dutch vessels have already left F802 and F831, as well as one from belgium F931. the 4th is still in port, but for some reason the VesselFinder app doesn't name it. Even on the Port of Tyne website, it only refers to 'Vessel 4' .. I've been away for a few days so hadn't been looking .. ANNOYING !!
