This video honestly removed a little bit of stress from me as I do mostly the same. Except my group keeps forgetting to mention what specific direction they want to go in. It’s we want to kill bandits on the road and I am like ok. Describe how you are traveling and last session was we are traveling as a marching band making as much noise as possible. Party gets jumped by a lot of angry Animals 50 ft outside of town with a nat 20 on noise level and a nat 1 on the performance check

i am not afraid, not afraid at all. T.R.33 Warforged druid. librarian background. Age 1 million years old. Due to how downtime works, training, ect, i have 30 in every stat, armor +3 that i made myself, a sheild i made myself, and a sword i crafted my self, its a scimitar. due to all the masters and people i have met over a course of 1 million years, i have managed to become resilient in every saving throw. I have also become profficient in every skill. The lowest i can roll on anything is a 13. I have never killed, and i dont want to now. My ac is 31. I can tank a terrasque and i cant be put to sleep. poison and disease are ineffective. i have more cantrips then i know what to do with, i also have spells from so many other classes thanks to ritual caster, and magic initiate. I can see in magical darkness and have true sight up to 5 or 10 feet, i cant remember. I am only level 1.... Bring on everything you got, cuase the terasque has a 5% chance to hit me.

I use mix of a lot of different editions rules. For instance, when rolling up your character, you normally do 3xD6 x8 drop the lowest score. I ask them to roll 7x D4 (drop low2) 9 times then drop the lowest 2 scores again. Usually we get better scores overall without it being too out of whack.
@DentZilber2 күн бұрын
Another example, I use the new Feats rules for level 1 players in that everyone gets a free Feat right out the gate.

I've been playing for years and years,. every time , without fail, When the group agrees, it's time for a new game, just one person offers to be the DM. But just this last week, for the very first time, two people wanted to DM a game because they both had ideas for campaigns they wanted to do. That's never happened around me before. That was so weird. But I'm happy one of the guys who wanted to DM was very new. He was so new that he thought that to run a campaign you had to make all of your own monsters from scratch.

I’d say there’s a 80% chance they stick with DnD for the main campaign while running a side Daggerheart campaign with a mostly different cast. I don’t think they’re gonna put all their eggs in the Daggerheart basket

I allow rebuilding in the early parts of the campaign, because they get to learn about both the mechanics and who they're roleplaying as. Only person who seemed to "abuse" that was actually yearning for a jack of all trades / toolbox type of character, building just that solved the issue.

Medieval explanations for ptsd usually involve things like curses or being haunted by slain foes. It wasn't trauma it was occult.

100% agree and would recommend checking out the Icewind Dale supplement for extra horribleness in snow based travel issues.
That's the whole point of a session zero lol. Gotta take your amorphous idea of a character and turn it into something that can function in this unique world
@nickwolfe66849 күн бұрын
It's basically just like being a mercenary in real life. Maybe not today as it's a rather niche career choice but back in the day before firearms maybe you were in the right/wrong place during a draft you got trained to use a spear and decided you fancied the life or you deserted and couldn't go home so you did what you could to survive. Maybe your father was a mercenary who taught you everything he knew or you come from a family of them. Maybe your from a family of knights but don't like being dedicated to a single lord.

I mean it could be because they made a build and just didn't like how it felt to play when they got their first taste of combat. It actually happened to me when a guy playing a Rogue didn't like that he only hit once per turn so he swapped to a Monk.
@vulpes1339 күн бұрын
As a player, I've done this. If the DM brings up the Critical Fumble home rules, I will never play as any kind of martial class. I will specifically build mages and the like that force the enemies to roll saving throws, never myself. Crit fails are already a punishment, making them worse makes the game feel worse.

Actually happens quite a bit. It's usually tied to the character realizing their potential could be more so they retrain into something that allows them to reach their fullest potential.

ever since we figured out what Perdathos' (spelling?) plan was, it seemed like they were setting up to wipe Exandria clean and reboot it... now, that is basically what they are doing... i obviously dont KNOW what they are going to do, but if they wanted to keep the world of exandria, and the locations and people, but move to a system that works completely differently, this WOULD be a phenomenal way to explain, dietetically, how that happened...

I recently (I say recently the idea came to me like 10 years ago but I only wrote it down this year) thought up a Guts Golem inspired by the Bone Golem. Attacks are a 10ft reach punch and spewing Tasha’s Caustic Brew. It also releases acid at anyone who hurts it with slashing damage. Its rage mode (IBS) has it spewing acid to turn the ground around it into difficult terrain.

I prefer the Chain Shirt (AC13) vs the Scale Mail (AC14) because the Chain Shirt allow up to +2 Dex bonus to armor plus does not give a disadvantage on stealth. They both cost 50 Gold.

Not playing DnD, but my pen-and-paper games usually include an NFC class (Non-Fighting Character). I'd love to see more trickery, diplomacy, and technical/hacking solutions (it's a Cyberpunk world) from my players, instead of relying on lead and alchemy (like magic). I also have a 'Priest' class, which is a dedicated roleplay class in a different fantasy pen-and-paper game I created. They use unique mechanics that are heavily roleplay-influenced, so I understand why they might not be very popular-except with very experienced players.
