to new players don’t waste your time. it’s a perpetual hype loop that only releases the bare minimum of what’s needed to keep the train rolling and edging players so that they keep buying more ships. Everything is always right over the horizon just don’t even do yourself the injustice of getting involved and starting to have expectations because they will never be met

Wonderfully spoken take on the easiest question to get wrong about CIG. If it were a scam, one of the multiple governments in the many countries it is in. During investigation, (of which there has been) would have found evidence. It sure is in it's own area funding wise. So is it's whole story. It's unique for good reason, as well as less than good.

2015 backer, never had more fun per dollar in any other gaming experience. You never get bored of a repetitive game loop because you're free to truly choose your own adventure. Sure there are bugs, but just like any real life experience there are going to be issues you are ready for and know how to deal with and those you learn to overcome. but the best part is that when you need help friends or strangers and come help you out with a quick rescue, and then take in a gorgeous sunset.

Yeah I love SC but am stepping away from it for the rest of 2024. The game is a scam but as long as you know what it is and is not you will experience its wonder but from time to time development breaks the game quite often and progression gets reset a few times a year. My frustration is how good game play is often hindered by half baked updates and they keep cranking out new ships for players to buy with real $$. There is no incentive for CIG to put out a clean/complete version of SC, so they don't.

you also have to add that the project started as a dream of 10 ppl or so. they had to build an entire company to work on that project. they are now close to 1300 ppl working on the 2 games in ultpiple sudios around the world. that's no small/cheap task by itself.

Great and Balanced video and opinion. Agreed, but its nothing and honestly less in a way than any MMO does. Swtor will sell you a 20 dollar pet and smile at you. And as a whale most of my big ships do me no good without 5 -6 friends. I have a video game budget and I have been in the game since 2014. Basically I have spent about 700 a year for the last ten years on ships. I do not drink, eat out often nor smoke, I kind of hate to travel and I have a farm so it is hard to do. Basically SC is where I spend half my entertainment budget. Also there are CCU's, you can basically coupon your way to expensive ships. I agree however, there are people will gambling personalities who do not budget well.

I agree, 300i is the prettiest ship in game and was my original pledge in 2013. There were no custom options and when they added those in, you didn't get any of them. Such a shame it's not very useful ;_;

1:10 why not just set a keybind for adjusting the convergence distance? 5:20 sadly the coloured mobi bands are broken atm and you'll lose most of the apps 8:30 wonder who will be the first to build on the great wall once land claims and base building are in. 10:40 to bad transport beacons were removed in 3.23

Best advice I have for new players: if you don't plan on having patience with this project then stick with the $45 packages and earn your ships in-game. Otherwise, use the trade and exchange system to your advantage while understanding some of what you are pledging for will take time. Unless what you are buying is out already. I think even a lot of the veteran backers end up taking a couple of weeks to a month or two from this game to see where it's gone in the mean time. Lately it has been a pleasant surprise to return and see the progress. Here's to 4.0!

For a game that's only $45, and that's really all you have to spend, and not every shit is over 1,000 pounds. It's your choice to buy things or not, it's completely up to you. There are some paints you can buy in-game, the game has a plus and minus to it.

I’ve backed since 2013 and I’ve enjoyed the development. I pledged back then for SQ42 with Starcitizen as a secondary. I am super excited for SQ42 as I’ve enjoyed all of Chris Roberts space games (privateer and wing commander to name a few). A lot of people argue they pledged only for Star Citizen because they have SC now. When SQ42 comes out they all (well a great majority) will play SQ42. I’m pretty positive it will be great. They also need SQ42 to formulate the universe and design game mechanics to strengthen the game. These will be the core mechanics and greatly increase the reason why we do what we do.

Remember it’s never about how much you saved on a single ship , but how much you given the project overall. I don’t recommend more than 200 dollars a year chipping towards two dream ships. The precious few you choose to carry into the verse, you just really want to learn live and bum around in . Remember every extra ship is temptation to not fly want you want to but what is “meta.” If you want power go join a second job org .

Yamiks defines P2W as any advantaged gained for real world $. That's a great text book answer. While I agree, I find it incomplete and prone to cause judgement. What no one has yet discussed is something you just barely touched on. Minimum cost to play. In SC and ED its a one time cost. EvE online is $20/mo Dual Universe is$15/mo. If of your own accord make SC a subscription game [set aside $15/mo] You can upgrade your ship or save and outright buy ships and spend no more than you would on a subscription game. This is simply a comparison not advocacy.

Been backing aince 2015 and this game is better than anything that's come out in terms of gameplay, immersion, detail, technology, etc. This game is definitely not a pay to win game because unless you have the skill, no ship can help you "win", especially since there is no "winning" involved. No other project gives you this much game for $45. Also, the paints and ships can be earned in game, no need to spend anymore than $45

I started with crowd funding in 2012, in 2018 I gave my account to my cousin and started again in 2020, but due to bad hardware I didn't really get back to playing until 2022. A typical Star Citizen player has a lot of one thing: PATIENCE! It just takes time, 12 years now, and it will definitely take four more. It'll be fine. You have to put up with the pay-to-win aspect though, if you start with a cutter you'll quickly get annoyed "I should have taken the Titan straight away" welcome to the CCU game. Those who pay more also get more for their money, in the end they all end up with Conni! Those who invest more money get better ships, you can also buy them in-game, but owning one permanently instead of losing it after a full wipe is of course a good feeling.

Quick little tip that I remember a while although I'm not sure if it still applies in this patch. You can detach the cargo module of the Aurora CL using a tractor beam and put it on any other Aurora ship making that 3 scu go up to 6. And you can just rent the CL just to grab that part off it.

I don't see this different from a normal store. It comes down to marketing, wich is brilliantly done by the game! It only bugs me a bit because it's nothing tangible, it's digital. But people have accepted that with music. or even streaming services. Or even other games. You fork up the money and the actual owners can just decide "this other thing is what you have access to now". The money I have spent on it was bit by bit and if you use it, it's not a waste. I paid around 450€ for a balmuda toaster. It really makes the best toast ever, among other things. It's not 400€ better toast, but I use it every day. It's the digital aspect that really bugs me. It costs time and money to make something in the game, but your paying money to basically set a value from false to true. Mobile games and ubisoft games (among many others) are way more predatory. You can't buy lootboxes in star citizen, you pay for something and you actually get that exact thing, you don't pay for a lottery ticket to maybe get what you wanted. I prefer it that way. Be responsible with your money. Either you can afford it or not. It is a great game, it's a Sim wich ticks all the right boxes. just don't let it ruin you, it's not worth it.

red i will say this for 5 years now it always the same crap rehashed over and over , way to many of us have back and still it same crap rehashed again as a backer i did my part but how more years it going before we get the game we back for , this should been done already but there always a reason why this game cant be done always a marketing reason why we have no dam game still, Last of all i will not put another dime in this game until they can provide the ship i pledge for and released the game no more i dont care how cool the new ships are i still have not see the ship i paid for yet and it is getting really old that we still dont have game that works and really seems like it never going to happen

Unfortunately, this ultimately boils down to a game that has been in development for decades, with numerous unfulfilled promises about its progress and gameplay that have never materialized. They will keep the hand out as long as you keep giving.

Nice video. Just one feedback: I think style shouldn't be part of the scoring. It is so much up to personal taste. So what's the value of it in a tierlist? e.g. I don't like the RSI style as much but I love the MISC style. Whereas for you it seems to be the exact opposite. As this might be used as a sort of "recommendation" video for some people, I think you should leave that factor up to themselves. Specifically as for many people the looks can influence the enjoyment of a ship a lot.

This is hard. It all depends on how you play the game. Alone it's hard to beat the nomad, it does every thing very well and has great amenities (still don't know how they didn't fit a shower in there...) but If you can man the turret on the cutlass it's a whole other story and if you plan to play with others, the connie is hard to pass up. Listing the andromeda as a starter is a stretch, though. Starting to play the game at a 300€ gamepack doesn't scream beginner. but it's there and it's glorious! I think the list turned out to be fair. I enjoy taking the nomad to space truck distilled space spirits to get people space drunk. Even have a Consolidated jacket and trucker cap to fit the role! Also the pilot chair look comfy as all hell. Well done, nice and tidy guide for beginners! also best outtakes so far on this one! o7!

Connie needs all the love it can get. Beautiful and lovely ship I wonder how effective it will be flown solo once engineering hits and before blades and AI crew will be a thing. That might hinder it a bit. Lovely list, and I'd say that indeed the Titan is still the best of the best. Or the Aurora if someone is wanting to start from the actual level 1. Tho did not know about the Mustangs little cargo rack, that seems very handy.

Great content thanks for putting this together. Personally I consider Freelancer a 10 on Style because it's not common as muck like the Cutty and shows that you don't follow the meta. Also completely agree, start cheap as possible and work your way up. Level of marketing spin and ramping by CGI for players to spend anything more is an insult.

Ok so a few things that I missed. The Nomad has 2 gun racks by the entrance. The syulen can take a Pulse bike. The Mustang can take a Pulse bike if you tractor it in and out. Combat for Freelancer should be a 7 Its pitch yaw and roll are actually slower than the Cutty (I wrote 5 and said 6 XD) A full revised list without style or price Andromeda - 41 Freelancer 37 Nomad - 35 Cutty - 34 Cutter - 28 Titan - 26 100i - 23 Syulen - 23 Aurora MR - 15 Mustang - 16 Arrow - 16 C8X - 12

Mustang Alpha should not have gotten a "0" on ground vehicles, it can carry a Mirai Pulse in its cargo bin.

I agreed with all of your points except for the cutlass black lol. It is not tanky at all and now that the freelancer has an additional size 2 shield (3 total) it way outperforms the cutlass black in almost every metric apart from the turret.

I love my C8X. I got star citizen when the C8X was on sale and the same price as the cheapest ships. For my play style my only complaint is that I can't get a skin that looks like a taxi. 😢I had big dreams of being a space cabby, puttering about and ferrying players.
