I dont have locs but I tried to do my own crochet twists once, when it came time to take it out, I don't know what the heck I tried to do but I cut the thread and realized I cut my hair. It was right at the edges and I just stared for a few seconds and just burst out laughing. I never installed them again.

You can use the crochet method to reattach it once you have a little regrowth. So don’t throw the loc away.
