Hi folks, thanks for creating this! I began to map out my own spirial in a basic way to see where I am doing each level in my day to day experience. When I got to Red I drew some hard blanks which was fascinating! Other colours were easier to identify, but Red was vauge. I could muster up some questions to investigate like "where do I assert myself on the group?" And "where do I express power?" Some things came up where I am a martial artist (Wing Chun and BJJ) and the game is to dominate or not be dominated but I'm typically just trying to keep people off and get back to neutral vs dominate them. I can also try in the subtle realm influence the perception of others which seems like a less gross body way to express red and its not all snarling teeth and drool its more subtle and deveptive. I'm curious what my martial temperment could say about where I need to grow in this domain As well as if the red value meme can express itself in a more subtle way than a Donald Trump or Ghengis Khan. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your reflections, @ConnorLepp! 🙏 Perhaps it's fair to say that healthy expressions of any level of development are quite common and, therefore, relatively mundane. As for your embodiment of the Red (Self-Centered) Level of Development, typically the effective execution of any martial arts practice requires healthy assertiveness (Red, warrior consciousness). In other words, it sounds as if, on a regular basis, you adequately claim your own physical space and effectively channel your strength and power with wisdom and nobility (which can certainly be considered a healthy expression of the Red Level of Development). Be well! 🍀

Thank you all so much for this. I am coaching a 5 Founder and this helps me a lot. I’m also curious like Brandon re what are the points of connection between the Enneagram and the Big Five or Myers Briggs?
@practicalintegral46013 ай бұрын
Hi @jonikahoomes1725, Arguably, the Big 5 and the MBTI model are quite similar, with Extraversion (B5) representing Extraversion-Introversion (MBTI), Agreeableness (B5) representing Feeling-Thinking (MBTI), Conscientiousness (B5) representing Judging-Perceiving (MBTI) and Openness to Experience (B5) representing Sensing-iNtuition (MBTI). Neuroticism (reverse of emotional stability) is not represented in the MBTI. How the Enneagram relates to the Big 5 and MBTI is less clear, so using multiple models can often be useful. That being said, let us know if you discover any good comparison models! Be well! 🍀

@@practicalintegral4601 There is a lot of confusion around the differences between type 4 and type 9 in the enneagram world. Type 4 is both a frustration and an image type - you’re going to notice them fussing about how you don’t really get them, how they are deeper than you realise. They often express their disdain for things people commonly value - unashamedly (even proudly) so. They don’t want to ‘belong’ - they want to be distinctly special and the thought of being like most other people disgusts them Part of the issue is that 9s are a lot more common than 4s Also, 4s are no more special than anyone else - they are just doing their own ego bs like everyone else

First Tier seeks purification [katharsis], Second Tier seeks illumination [theoria] and Third Tier seeks unification [theosis] to which may be added the coincidentia oppositorum of the unification of union and seperation[autosis/theosis]. Kabbalah would suggest a 13th state of uncreated light the ein sof or aperion of the Ancient Greeks. this 13th state would correspond to the 13 spheres of Metatron's cube. The 12 state of clear light would be comparable to Ein Sof Aur.

The higher stages of consciousness urge the individual to be connected with the whole, like, with humanity, with physical universe, with spiritual realm. It also, as others described, makes you feel profound selfless compassion towards the world and especially other human beings. But i feel that most people that reached the higher stages, they focus too much on the self and on nothing at the same time, and too little on what other people experience, how others suffer their whole lives under the jackboot of ignorance, superstition, egoism and greed. In my opinion, our duty as a species is to bring all of us into the proverbial Heaven on Earth, to liberate ourselves into the highest stages of existence. It is not enough to explain the world, the point is to change it.

Turquoise seems to me like a personified embodiment of dialectical-materialistic view on the reality, at least on instinctual level. The "spiritual bypassing" disaster, i believe, is a rejection or inability to accept that reality is wholly material and that any spiritual thing originates from material reality and from our experience with it. I've seen so many wise people, so close to seeing the world for what it truly is, and then ruining it for no reason than "being spiritual and mysterious" is somehow more appropriate than being grounded in material reality.

Glad to see more discussion of Integral theory, especially in terms of practicality! It is intriguing to have hear/see speculative views on higher stages beyond 2nd tier. Lots to think about but not enough data and instances to be anything but speculative; as yet. Not convinced of putting capacities (e.g seeing, feeling, hearing) above each other. Since they are just different modalities. Good material still 😊 If you are interested in “feeling wholes”, check out Quentin Smith’s “Metaphysics of Feelings: Felt Meanings of the World”. Nick, who says he is an introverted 7, probably thinks that being extroverted means partying all day and meeting people on a daily basis. Introverted means ananlyzing what you think or feel about objects (people, things ideas). Extroverted means engaging with the object (talking to people, playing a videogame, creating art from your ideas) Every 7 is extroverted, but some 7s (like me ) have social anxiety and rather get their joy from doing things and creating ideas than from being around way too amny people all the time. I am a 7 and I am almost always at home. It´s my fun place. the interent is full of ideas and I can play with my family all day long and be creative. This is extraversion experienced at home 🤷♀ I also have a strong connection to both arrows (1 and 5) and am the kind of type 7 that is very responsible and a deep thinker). It has to do with maturity. Being selfish is maybe funny when you are a teenager or a young adult, but not when you are a parent with responsibilities and a job. You gotta grow up at some point in your life.
@practicalintegral46019 ай бұрын
Great point, @SchmausiMausi! In our Enneagram Panel series, we've spoken relatively little about the wings of each type, but Type 7s with a 6-wing (7w6) arguably experience fear and anxiety much more frequently than Type 7s with an 8-wing (7w8). Also, as you say, the integration direction for Type 7s is towards Type 5, which is associated with deep thinking, focus and a certain comfort with solitude. So, thanks for sharing your perspective and adding additional nuance to the dialogue! 🙏 Be well! 🍀

If your 1st instint is preservation, your 2nd instint is never sexual. It goes in order preservation/social/sexual & around from the beginning. U can act on 3rd instint, one cause u still have it, also because u can be acting pretty extreme unconsciously, or u might make the conscious choice to use ur 3rd instint because u consciously decide u want to use it sometime somewhere.

Thank you so much for the panel. I’m a 4/5 w. The sense of not belonging has been intense all my life. I’ve chalked it up to the fact that I was in the incubator for 5 weeks. Wasn’t visited by my mom or even named. So I’ve done plenty of work to heal that trauma.And learning about the enneagram helps me see that this emptiness is just a part of me. I’ve had a deep spiritual path since I was 18yrs old and I make meaning from believing this deep pain of not belonging helps create compassion. And I gotta say lately I’ve been challenged with feeling deeply discouraged with creating community and deeper friendships. Also struggle with wanting to offer anything to the world cuz it just didn’t feel original enough. Step by step. Being in nature and having pets helps tenderly.

Thanks for watching, @cultivarcultivar! 🙏 Agreed, indeed, that it's important to distinguish between different "intelligences", when reflecting on the possible developmental altitude of individuals. Generally speaking, the creation process of many great artists involves flow experiences, during which the self is transcended. Therefore, these artists' awareness is characterized to some degree by 3rd Tier Unity Awareness. Yet, as with every human being, each great artist is also significantly less developed in other areas of life. As such, each of us appears to be a dynamic system of highs and lows... Be well! 🍀

@@practicalintegral4601 Interesting! Where can we read more about the unity awareness of great artists analyzed through Integral Theory? Agreed, @cultivarcultivar, that many institutions with rich histories are significantly influenced by Amber/Blue values! After all, the perpetuation of lineage is itself a very Amber/Blue goal. Also, we might speculate that bureaucracy is a strongly Amber/Blue phenomenon. Within this context, a recent Forbes article reported that, in various universities in the United States, there are now 3 times as many administrators as there are faculty. Of course, as you say, Orange and Green values are also highly represented within western educational institutions. Wishing you all the best! 🍀

@@practicalintegral4601Thank you, it’s so sweet of you to respond! I agree. I also think (as mentioned in my earlier post) that university deans and scholars have often learned to use Yellow/Teal concepts to furnish their purported ideals because so many of the past intellectuals and creators whose legacy have been incorporated into the academic canon were often 2nd Tier thinkers. So i find that in universities, beneath the Teal, Green and Orange value statements I still encounter an overpowering layer of actual Amber. I also think a lot of academics actually are very Amber-driven people but don’t seem to be aware of this about themselves. Would you agree? Thank you again for your thoughtful reply.

Thanks for sharing your reflections, @cultivarcultivar! 🙏 We could perhaps say that, throughout the day, all of us are continually expressing various behaviors associated with different levels of development. Many of these behaviors are influenced by life conditions and the center of gravity of the culture. Within this context, we might expect university staff to exhibit 2nd Tier behavior more frequently into the future as the culture within which these universities are embedded hopefully becomes more supportive of people transcending an exclusive identification with worldviews associated with 1st Tier stages of development. What are your thoughts? Wishing you all the best! 🍀

I appreciate this video and the one about Coral and beyond. I would like to share my experience. I lived in and as Turquoise in over one and a half years 2017-mid 2019. It was resembling what you describe but some things you mention were not present at all. In this stage I was definitely going towards simplicity and a sort of organically self emerging minimalism with immense presence and delight in the smallest and most mundane and basic. Delight in any state - chaos, noise, what prior was perceived as ugly or disturbing or evil or low was immensely beautiful and lovable and relatable and communed and empathed with. There was an ever presence of trust and bliss and confidence within all unknowns and within threats and challenges. There was an everpresence of communion and love with everything and everyone and even the possibility of communicating with anything and anyone at levels way different than words or body language... plants and animals talked if they wanted and taught if I received it. Places and photos were portals and libraries of information that could be received - or not...nothing mattered yet there was a lot of delight. It was my responsibility to birth and move my stream of love, creation and energy to harmonize and unify and make more coherent the Whole while attending to all aspects that came into my awareness. The mundane smallest things could be extremely transcendent and bliss-filling. Body was very unified with mind and with soul and with Whole of world and all realms and "other" and cosmos but cosmos was not interesting - the simple here and now and bringing unified harmony was more. So what was not present was ambition. What was not present was diligence. What was not present was learning and reading - all books and human ideology were long gone....completely irrelevant... visceral organic birthing of the experience of the now was so harmonious that nothing was missing and nothing was grasped for. There was as you said a desire to come together att all levels of spiral and certainly at turquoise level with other turquises to unify and make the whole more coherent but there was no hurry or fear or diligence - just a trusting patient birthing and experiencing. And I want to share what happened. I am not at all in turquoise any more. As you mentioned: Trauma work and shadow work is needed. So this showed up for me. I lost almost everything and everyone you can think of very rapidly - not by their death but by their choice. I did have attachment to the few precious individuals I did call my friends and losing all five of them by them abandoning me for different reasons and within just a few months brought me into my trauma wounds. The world also went into lock downs soon thereafter. Loneliness was extreme and 100%. Not a single living human had any relationship or connection to me when lock downs hit. I was not as accepting towards the turn of events in the world - what was underlying the whole thing was evidently malevolent in my perception - and by deliberate design - I was shocked to see the ignorance and lack of integrity within humanity in how we responded. I fell deeply into pain and started the whole spiral from beginning again in deep childhood trauma work and now I am most of the time in yellow...sometimes a bit colored by green, and now and then dipping down more to other colors. I can easily reach turquoise states for some 5-30 minutes but I am in no hurry nor motivation to do so - I want to be thorough, organic and genuine in my beingness and I have no desire to go fast consciousness - I just really want to do and be benevolent and to unify and whole more. Facing it all and not evading any wound or pain or grief is more important to me now than being free or in a higher state. Sometimes I am a bit confused by this fall from turquoise and wonder if I regressed. I don't know.
@practicalintegral460111 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story, @Wildpower2012! 🙏 A beautiful description of delighting in the mundane from a perspective of embodied presence! Unfortunate to hear about your experience of loneliness. @@practicalintegral4601 Thank you, Yes I am working on my traumas with the guidance of myself. No professional has been able to with any success. Currently some close individuals that I trust can be witnesses and listeners but I hold the process and the container, and I am in charge. Life provides all the triggers day to day. I now see that I almost skipped through yellow prior to getting to turquoise. I think it is very unstable to skip through a stage too fast. I also see that I have very little experience of beige and red but substantial experience and deep understanding of all other stages up until coral. Maybe I need some more of the insights from orange as well. I feel like you need solid understanding of each phase and stage in order to progress in a stable and grounded manner. I have now read about several people who needed to go back into prior stages... doesn't seem that uncommon. It is very difficult to find information and descriptions online on Turquoise and upwards. Some information online about Green seems very contradictory to me. A lot of hate-based individuals and groups are described as Green by many of those who speak and write about Spiral dynamics and Integral theory... and lumped together with others who are Heart-based. I thought Green was Heart based, and grounded in Love and Empathy? Generally - people who speak about (or scream and fight about) tolerance, empathy and love have nothing to do with people who are based in them...

TLDR: Enneagram types 5, 6, and 7 are driven by curiosity, fear, and pleasure, and the integral philosophy offers a map to understand human experience and consciousness, emphasizing the shift from fear to acceptance and the importance of embracing diversity and cultural differences. 1. 00:00 🔍 Type 5, the investigator, is curious and insightful, while type 6, the loyalist, can become cynical; type 5 individuals are over-represented in the integral world and can mature into assertive leaders. 1.1 Continuing the discussion on Enneagram types, the speaker introduces type 5, the investigator, and type 6, the loyalist, and their characteristics. 1.2 Type 5 is a seeker of knowledge who is curious, insightful, and good at logical reasoning. 1.3 As a type 5, the speaker is intensely curious and prefers to observe rather than participate, which can lead to feeling alienated and cynical. 1.4 Pathological fives can become like disintegrated sevens, always seeking what's next and spending hours categorizing and finding patterns. 1.5 Enneagram type 5 individuals are over-represented in the integral world because it provides a new world where everything is included and they experience it as thrilling and psychoactive. 1.6 As a type 5 matures, they can develop into a type 8, becoming assertive leaders who actively contribute to the community. 2. 07:36 🔍 Type 5 and 6 in the Enneagram are deep investigators, with type 5 being intense and isolated, and people with types 5-7, like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, are often introverted and find ways to connect with others through technology and information. 2.1 Types 5 and 6 in the Enneagram are characterized by a deep investigation into spiritual and empty spaces, with type 5 being described as an intense, cerebral, secretive, and isolated investigator. 2.2 Phibes are alert, insightful, and curious, able to concentrate on developing complex ideas and skills, but can become detached and intense, often ahead of their time, with a basic fear of being useless, helpless, or incapable. 2.3 The speaker discusses the influence of childhood experiences on personality types, using Salvador Dali as an example of a type 5 artist. 2.4 People with Enneagram types 5-7, like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, are often introverted and find ways to connect with others through technology and information. 2.5 People with type 5 personalities are diligent researchers but may struggle with conspiratorial thinking and can easily adapt their reasoning based on the last person they interacted with. 3. 15:24 🧐 Enneagram types 5, 6, and 7 are driven by curiosity and fear, with type 6 seeking safety and security, being loyal and responsible but also defensive and anxious. 3.1 Curiosity and fear drive Enneagram types 5, 6, and 7 to seek knowledge and safety in different ways. 3.2 Fives are able to absorb and convey detailed and broad knowledge, but struggle with completion and moving on to the next thing. 3.3 Type TLDR: Individuals progress through stages of development, from traditional beliefs to modern rationality, and eventually to a green level of development that involves a rejection of grand narratives and a desire to include all marginalized groups and extend compassion to animals and the world at large. 1. 00:00 🌐 The discussion explores the stages of development in integral philosophy, highlighting the emergence of the modern rational stage and the impact of traditionalism on the modern and postmodern world. 1.1 Lee and Amali are joined by Jeff Saltzman to discuss the stages of development in integral philosophy, focusing on the basics and practical applications. 1.2 The emergence of the modern rational stage, starting around 300 years ago, was a retaliation against the traditional puritanical religious mindset, leading to a value of freedom and liberation in thinking for oneself. 1.3 The impact of traditionalism on the modern and postmodern world, including the response to the coronavirus, demonstrates the interconnectedness of global intelligence and the persistence of traditional values. 2. 04:38 🌍 Moving into new stages of development involves liberation from traditional beliefs, transitioning to independence, and experiencing a lack of understanding and conflicting values in a modern world with both benefits and downsides. 2.1 Moving into new stages of development involves being liberated from traditional beliefs and experiencing a sense of alienation in a modern, science-based world. 2.2 The transition from being tied to family to becoming independent and finding one's own identity is a key aspect of personal development. 2.3 People at different stages of development don't understand each other and often push each other away, leading to a culture with conflicting values and a lack of feeling at home. 2.4 Second person spirituality is gone, and rationality creates tangible results of modernity like skyscrapers and tripled lifespans. 2.5 The modern world has brought many benefits such as freedom from toothaches and lice, but also has downsides like obesity, environmental degradation, and the soullessness of the meat industry. 3. 10:39 🌀 Individuals progress through stages of development, with the pursuit of profit often outweighing ethics, as seen in the success of Elon Musk and the harm caused by DuPont. 3.1 Elon Musk is seen as an orange hero for his success in multiple industries, while the DuPont chemical organization is considered an orange villain for their pollution and harm to people and animals. 3.2 The pursuit of profit and wealth often outweighs ethics and compassion, as seen in art and the emergence of orange modernity in teenagers. 3.3 The speaker discusses the emergence of the authoring mind and the shift from communal to individualistic values as individuals progress through the stages of development. 4. 15:01 🌀 Our consciousness evolves from individualism to communal faithfulness, progressing through levels of development from tribal to success-driven, with a focus on wealth and products, while green emerges as a reaction against capitalism and the challenge is to attract listeners without financial incentives. 4.1 There is a polarity between communal and individual being, and our consciousness is growing in a spiral from red individualism to communal faithfulness and then into orange. 4.2 The levels of development progress from tribal to individual to success-driven, with a focus on gathering wealth and selling products. 4.3 Naomi Klein's book "No Logo" critiques capitalism and demonstrates how green, as a reaction against the toxicities of capitalism, grows out of the orientation towards success and making money. 4.4 Everyone can now communicate freely without needing money, but the challenge is to attract listeners without any intermediaries or financial incentives. 5. 20:38 🌍 The move into the green level of development involves a rejection of grand narratives, a critique of power dynamics, and a desire to include all marginalized groups and extend compassion to animals and the world at large. 5.1 The move into the green level of development involves a rejection of all grand narratives and a critique of power dynamics in history. 5.2 The speaker discusses the progression from civil rights to feminism to gay rights, and the desire to include all marginalized groups and extend compassion to animals and the world at large. 5.3 Global communication and travel have allowed us to see beyond our own country, but it also brings the risk of spreading diseases, leading to a desire to connect with people from different cultures. 5.4 Multiculturalism is seen as a powerful force, but it can also exclude those who are not multicultural. 5.5 The new stage of development that emerged in the 60s with the sexual revolution and civil rights is a critique of modernity that modernity is nervous about, but integralists want to see the best of all worldviews and move forward in a way that has a sense of unity and realization. 5.6 The speaker discusses the inability of first-tier stages to understand each other, particularly the backlash against hierarchies and the impact of green's inability to convince others who don't share their worldview in the political world.

TLDR: Human development progresses through different stages, and embracing and understanding these stages is crucial for personal and societal growth and harmony. 1. 00:00 🌀 Hierarchy and developmental stages are natural and necessary, with controversy surrounding the teaching of stages of development and the use of colors to describe spiral dynamic stages. 1.1 The levels of development within integral theory are discussed, including physical, emotional, mental, existential, self, creative, moral, and environmental intelligence, and the controversy surrounding the teaching of stages of development. 1.2 Hierarchy is natural and necessary, with development occurring sequentially in individuals, cultures, and organizations. 1.3 Developmental stages are seen throughout history and in individual human development, with each stage transcending and including the previous one, leading to the emergence of new stages. 1.4 The controversy arises when looking at stages of development in the intangible interior quadrants, using colors to describe spiral dynamic stages, and emphasizing the fluid and overlapping nature of these stages without judgment. 1.5 The stages of human development, as explained through spiral dynamics, are a way to understand the deeper spiritual evolution of humanity, starting with the moment of human awareness and the separation of self from the world. 1.6 Individuals reach a point in early childhood where they realize their own identity separate from others. 2. 10:47 🌀 Humanity progresses through different stages of development, from instinctual needs to self-awareness, and can regress in extreme survival situations, but integration of all stages can lead to a deeply fulfilling new stage. 2.1 Humanity goes through a phase of awakening and vulnerability, represented by the color beige in spiral dynamics, leading to the start of the human drama. 2.2 Early human development began with instinctual needs and basic impulses, progressing through tribal stages and pre-egoic consciousness before the emergence of self-awareness and ego. 2.3 Human development progresses through different stages, but individuals can regress to lower stages in times of extreme survival situations. 2.4 Integration of all stages, including pre-conscious awareness, can lead to a deeply fulfilling new stage in spiral dynamics. 3. 16:39 🌍 Human development is categorized into different stages, with the taming of fire marking a significant shift, leading to the emergence of more complex tribal societies and the importance of understanding and appreciating cultural and societal differences at each stage. 3.1 The speaker discusses the different stages of development and emphasizes the importance of recognizing the positive and negative aspects of each stage. 3.2 Human development can be categorized into first, second, and third person perspectives, with the taming of fire marking a significant shift in the third person perspective, leading to the emergence of more complex tribal societies. 3.3 Progress through the tribal stage involves developing a way to deal with poverty, embracing the richness of community and the magical world, but also includes reflexive demonization of others, warfare, and a lack of full ego development. 3.4 Different levels of development and the importance of understanding and appreciating the cultural and societal differences that come with each stage. 3.5 The speaker reflects on a moment of spiritual connection to nature and the different levels of development that can shape one's perception of the experience. 3.6 The development of individual and collective ways of being is reflected in the shift from a tribal to modern worldview, with examples of cultural beliefs and rituals demonstrating this transition. 4. 29:04 🔍 Embracing different stages of development can prevent unhealthy manifestations and is applicable to modern life, such as in family dynamics and childhood development. 4.1 The speaker discusses playing roulette in Vegas and the uncertainty of predicting the outcome. 4.2 The speaker discusses the concept of finding meaning and connection, and how it is represented in the stage of development through the example of Harry Potter. 4.3 Embracing the different stages of development in a healthy way can help prevent unhealthy manifestations and
