Just looked through your youtube and portfolio - very very impressive work. Any chance you could give a paragraph explanation on how you did the fake bloom? Are you using render textures? Transparent planes? Would love to know how you did it even just to point me in the right direction. Thanks for sharing your work!

Thank you! In this case, we simply used 3D meshes with a fresnel & distance fade, as well as the depth texture to soften intersections with the scene. The shader supported two-sided rendering and you could transition through it without seeing an intersection, but I forgot the details about that. I used screen-space & billboard-based approach as well, they all achieve decent result, just different tradeoffs. Hope this helps :)

Well done. What layer sampling method have you used?
@maxroetzler11 ай бұрын
Thank you! This was fairly standard, just two splat-maps with 8 layers. I used branches to improve performance, and only 3 of the 8 layers support tri-planar mapping. The individual layer textures were also packed into 2 textures, instead of 3. The last layer could be used to implement special terrain features, like emission, flow mapping, metalness, etc. But this was made a while ago.

Thats nice! How is it done?

I'm sampling the height values of pixels in the opposite light direction, to determine whether the current pixel should be shadowed or not. For a better solution, you can look at parallax self-shadowing, or this normal map based technique which is similar: enbdev.com/doc_normalmappingshadows.htm www.shadertoy.com/view/7lBBR3

The scene is not very reusable and also contains some 3rd party assets/textures that I can't sell. So probably not :/

This graphic style reminds me a lot of Kartuga, and I just reviewed your ArtStation and you worked on Kartuga :O . I really loved Kartuga graphics, the ships, environments, the water looked amazing, I have not seen any water as beautiful as that in the assetstore :(, also UI :) , even now I would still see them very well, sad that InnoGames decided not to continue its development :(
@maxroetzler3 жыл бұрын
I just did some external, promotional work for Kartuga, but wasn't involved in the real project. I might add that work to my Artstation at some point. But I agree, the game had a pretty cool art-style that was fun to work with.

This looks really great! Two things I would improve, the cables at 0:34. They are laying down to loose, it looks to much like they can slide off. A more supporting structure would benefit. Second is the plane, I think the position is to perfect centralized. For the rest awesome!

I still have the project, the foam shader is somewhat broken since I last looked into it. There may be a way to get it back out of the original apk somehow. Not sure about selling it tho, as this it mostly a learning project. But depending on what elements you're interested in, send me a pm.

Thanks! I don't think there's a tutorial for this, at least not that I know of. I wanted to write one a while ago but got sidetracked. The setup is not very dynamic as it relies on custom meshes for the terrain and water. I split the underwater terrain (with a shader to distort the texture and tint via vertex color) and a foam mesh with the uvw's aligned to follow the coastline. On the foam I used two alternating textures that move towards the coastline. That's the basic setup at least, hope that helps.
